You can often use a tablet you already own as a drawing display, but “any tablet” needs an important qualification. The tablet must have a touch- or pen-capable screen, a compatible active stylus if you want pressure-sensitive drawing, and software that connects it to your computer. The computer then runs Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint, Illustrator, or another desktop art program while the tablet displays the canvas and sends pen input back.
There is a second option: draw directly on the tablet using a native art app. That is usually simpler, but it does not turn the tablet into a computer peripheral.
#1 Best Overall
- Multiple Colors: you will receive 7 pieces of LCD writing tablet stylus in different colors, and 7 pieces of black elastic lanyards are also provided, sufficient quantity can meet your daily use and replacement, please note that the color is only the appearance of the design, when writing will not change the color of the text
- Reliable Material: the writing pen for tablet is made of quality ABS material, sturdy and solid, not easy to break, deform or fade, lightweight and serviceable, convenient for taking around, and easy to store and won't take up too much space
- Portable Size: the stylus pen with lanyard is measured about 4.7 x 0.4 inches, proper size suitable for most LCD tablet memory slots, and the length is comfortable to grip, which will bring you a pleasant using experience
- Anti Loss Design: the top of each board stylus with a perforated design, you can use it with the elastic lanyard, won't worry about losing the pen, providing you with a long service time
- Wide Applications: the doodle board stylus is suitable for home, kindergarten, class, park, summer camp, painting class use, which is a practical tool for yourself or your kids during learning, drawing, calculating, and writing
First, check whether your tablet can do this
Before installing anything, confirm these three requirements:
- The tablet can accept pen input. A touchscreen alone is not enough for professional drawing features.
- The stylus is compatible with the exact tablet model. Pressure, tilt, hover, palm rejection, and shortcut buttons depend on the tablet, pen, operating system, and connection software.
- A compatible host app exists for your computer. The best option depends on whether you are connecting an iPad or Android tablet to a Mac, Windows PC, or Linux computer.
A basic rubber-tip or capacitive stylus may move a cursor and tap buttons, but it generally behaves like a finger. It does not provide genuine pressure-sensitive brush control. If your tablet supports active-pen input, check the exact model before buying a compatible active stylus for your tablet. Apple provides a model-by-model Apple Pencil compatibility guide, while Samsung documents compatibility and feature differences across Galaxy devices in its S Pen support guide.
Choose the right method for your devices
| Tablet | Computer | Best first choice | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPad | Mac | Apple Sidecar | Both devices must meet Apple’s compatibility, account, and Continuity requirements. |
| Android tablet | Windows | SuperDisplay | Requires a compatible active pen and Windows app/driver configuration. |
| iPad | Windows | Duet Display | Verify the current plan, operating-system support, and Apple Pencil features. |
| Android tablet | Mac | Duet Display | Check current Android and macOS support before paying. |
| iPad or Android tablet | Linux | Weylus | More technical setup; the most complete feature set is documented for Linux. |
| Any tablet | None | A native drawing app | This is standalone tablet drawing, not a computer graphics-tablet conversion. |
iPad plus Mac: use Sidecar first
For an iPad and Mac, Apple’s built-in Sidecar is the most direct route. It lets you extend or mirror the Mac display on the iPad and use Apple Pencil to draw, select, and manipulate objects in Mac applications. Apple’s requirements and supported-device list are detailed in its Sidecar documentation.
Sidecar supports Macs running macOS Catalina 10.15 or later and supported iPads running iPadOS 13 or later. Apple’s listed iPad families include all iPad Pro models, iPad sixth generation or later, iPad mini fifth generation or later, and iPad Air third generation or later. The exact Apple Pencil generation must also match the iPad.
Sidecar setup
- Update macOS and iPadOS.
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on both devices and enable two-factor authentication.
- For wireless Sidecar, turn on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Handoff. For a more stable connection, connect the iPad to the Mac with a USB cable.
- On the Mac, open System Settings > Displays > Add Display.
- Select the iPad and choose whether to Extend or Mirror the Mac display.
- Move your drawing application window onto the iPad.
- Open a pressure-sensitive brush and test pressure, tilt, palm rejection, and cursor alignment before starting a project.
Use Extend when you want the iPad to act as a separate canvas while keeping tools or reference material on the Mac. Use Mirror when you want both screens to show the same canvas, which can be useful while demonstrating a technique.
Sidecar is an Apple Mac feature. It is not Apple’s solution for using an iPad as a drawing display for Windows.
Android tablet plus Windows: try SuperDisplay
SuperDisplay is designed to turn an Android phone or tablet into an additional USB display for a Windows 10 PC. Its official documentation advertises pressure-sensitive stylus support, including support for Samsung S Pen devices. Most Android devices use a relatively simple connection process, although some require Developer options and USB debugging.
SuperDisplay setup
- Install the SuperDisplay Android app on the tablet.
- Download and install the SuperDisplay Windows driver from the official site.
- Connect the tablet to the PC with a data-capable USB cable. A cable that only charges the tablet will not work for data or display transmission. If you need one, use a USB-C data cable appropriate for the ports on both devices.
- Approve any Android USB or debugging prompt.
- Set the tablet as an extended or mirrored display.
- Launch Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint, Illustrator, or another Windows art application and move it to the tablet.
- Test a pressure-sensitive brush.
If the cursor moves but pressure does not work, check the drawing application’s tablet-input setting. Depending on the program, pressure may use Windows Ink or the SuperDisplay Wintab driver. Change the relevant setting, then completely close and restart the drawing application. SuperDisplay’s official help documentation includes application-specific guidance for Photoshop, Krita, Illustrator, Blender, GIMP, and other software.
SuperDisplay is a strong straightforward recommendation for Android-to-Windows use. It is not a universal Android-to-Mac or Android-to-Linux solution: the developer’s help information says ports to other platforms are not currently planned.
iPad or Android plus Windows or Mac: consider Duet Display
Duet Display supports iPad and Android devices as additional displays for Windows and Mac. It is particularly useful when you have an iPad but your computer is Windows, or when you need a cross-platform option.

The iPad version describes Duet Pro features for compatible iPads and Apple Pencil, including pressure, tilt, hover, and palm rejection. It also describes USB setup and compatibility with major creative applications. However, these features can depend on the device, operating-system versions, app tier, and subscription plan. Check the current requirements before purchasing.

General Duet setup
- Install the tablet app from the official app store.
- Install the corresponding Duet desktop software on Windows or Mac.
- Connect the tablet by USB for the first test, or configure the supported wireless connection.
- Allow the requested device and network permissions.
- Choose extended or mirrored display mode.
- Move the art application to the tablet and test pressure, tilt, hover, palm rejection, and alignment.
Duet may be the most practical commercial choice for a mixed-device household, but do not treat claims such as “zero lag” as a universal guarantee. Real performance depends on the tablet, computer, cable, network, display resolution, background processes, and drawing application.
Linux or open-source setup: use Weylus if you are comfortable troubleshooting
Weylus is an open-source project that can turn a tablet or smartphone into a graphic tablet or touchscreen through a desktop application and a modern tablet browser. It supports Android and iOS/iPadOS browsers. According to the project documentation, Linux offers the most complete feature set, including stylus pressure and tilt, multitouch, window capture, and tablet-as-second-screen functionality.
Windows and macOS support is more limited, and some Linux-specific features are unavailable there. Weylus is therefore a useful fallback rather than the easiest recommendation for everyone.
Basic Weylus setup
- Install the desktop release for your computer’s operating system.
- Start Weylus and note the local address or QR code it displays.
- Open that address in the tablet’s modern web browser.
- Keep the tablet and computer on the same local network, or use a supported USB-tethering or hotspot arrangement.
- Set an access code and use a trusted network.
- Configure Linux input permissions if you need pressure, tilt, or multitouch.
Weylus warns that its default setup is not encrypted. Do not expose it casually to an untrusted network. If pressure or tilt is missing on Linux, follow the project’s uinput setup instructions and confirm that your host operating system supports the feature you want.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsActive pen compatibility matters more than the tablet’s screen
A tablet can have an excellent touchscreen and still be unsuitable as a pressure-sensitive drawing pad. The digitizer and pen protocol determine whether the computer receives pressure and other pen data.
Check these details for the exact tablet and stylus combination:
- Pressure sensitivity: needed for brush-size or opacity changes based on how hard you press.
- Tilt: useful for pencil, charcoal, airbrush, and shading tools that respond to the pen angle.
- Hover: lets the cursor move before the nib touches the screen.
- Palm rejection: prevents resting your hand on the glass from creating unwanted touches.
- Shortcut buttons and Bluetooth: may work only in native tablet apps or may not pass through the computer connection.
A passive stylus cannot be upgraded into an active pen through software. If the tablet lacks a compatible digitizer, you can still use your finger or a capacitive stylus for simple markup, but the result will not behave like a professional pen display.

- 【Stylus for Touch Screen】This stylus can be used on touch screen, designed to replace your fingers, the stylus can free up your fingers and provide higher sensitivity and response on the screen.
- 【Capacitive stylus】This is a capacitive stylus (battery-free, requires no charging, and functions like a fingertip)—not an active stylus. It does not support pressure sensitivity or palm rejection. However, it allows for tapping, scrolling, note-taking, and drawing on touchscreens; if you require professional-grade drawing capabilities on an iPad, please choose an active stylus instead.
- 【2-in-1 Stylus Pen】This stylus features two different tips: a flexible transparent disc tip and a rubber tip. Applying moderate pressure when using the rubber tip ensures full contact with the screen—especially on screens with protective films—thereby enabling stable signal transmission. The combination of the rubber tip and the disc tip offers two distinct touch experiences. Please note that the plastic piece on the transparent disc is an integral part of the tip and cannot be removed.
- 【Works On Capacitive Touch Screens】Compatible with iPad, iPad Air/mini, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Android tablets, Kindle and smartphones. Also works over most screen protectors — glide, no scratch. The stylus is used to replace your fingers on a touchscreen, Avoid rubbing your fingers and leaving fingerprints on touchscreen devices. If it cannot be used for writing on some devices, This may be due to limitations in the settings of touchscreen devices. If you cannot find a solution, please contact us at any time, and we will help you resolve the issue.
- 【Multiple Usage Scenarios】Whether you are taking notes in class, reviewing documents at work, drawing creative designs, or enjoying mobile games, this universal stylus pen delivers a smooth and comfortable touch experience. It is ideal for writing, sketching, annotating, scrolling, and precise screen control on tablets and smartphones. From daily tasks to creative projects, this stylus helps you capture ideas anytime and anywhere.
USB or wireless connection?
Use USB for the first setup and whenever drawing responsiveness matters. A wired connection avoids many sources of wireless congestion and can make troubleshooting easier. It may also keep the tablet powered in some configurations, although charging behavior varies by device and port.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWireless connection is more convenient, but it can introduce delay, instability, or dropped connections. There is no single latency figure that applies to every tablet-and-computer combination. Performance depends on the network, encoding load, resolution, hardware, and software.
If wireless drawing feels delayed:
- Try USB.
- Reduce the display resolution or streaming-quality setting.
- Close background applications.
- Move closer to the wireless access point or use a wired network where the software supports it.
- Keep the tablet charged and prevent it from entering a power-saving mode.
Fix mapping, scaling, and cursor problems
A tablet used as a second display is not automatically identical to a screenless Wacom-style tablet. The cursor may follow the visible canvas, and shortcut controls may be located in the app, on the keyboard, or on the pen rather than on the tablet.
When the tablet and computer use different aspect ratios, the drawing area may be letterboxed, cropped, or stretched. Check:
- Display arrangement and the tablet’s physical position relative to the computer monitor.
- Portrait versus landscape orientation.
- Operating-system display scaling.
- Application zoom and canvas rotation.
- Whether the connection app offers uniform mapping or tablet-area controls.
Move the cursor around all four corners of the canvas and make several slow strokes. If a circle becomes an oval or the cursor consistently misses the nib, correct display scaling or mapping before calibrating your brush.
Pressure-sensitive software configuration
Pressure must be supported at several points: by the pen, tablet operating system, connection app, driver or input API, and drawing program. A pen that works correctly in the tablet’s native note app may still lose pressure when its input is passed to desktop software.
Use this test:
- Open a new document in the desktop drawing application.
- Select a brush whose size or opacity responds to pressure.
- Draw a stroke with light pressure, then another with firm pressure.
- Test tilt only if the brush supports it.
- If pressure fails, switch between Windows Ink and Wintab only where the app and connection software support those options.
- Restart the drawing application after changing the driver or input setting.
Do not assume that every pen feature passes through every connection method. Pressure may work while tilt, hover, Bluetooth buttons, or palm rejection does not.

A dedicated pen display or screenless graphics tablet is usually more predictable for frequent work. It may offer better driver controls, programmable shortcut keys, stable USB operation, broad desktop-app support, and a workflow designed specifically for drawing. A tablet connection app can also consume battery, network bandwidth, or computer resources, and its pen features may vary by device and application.

Bottom line
You can often turn a compatible tablet into a drawing pad, but not literally every tablet and not with a passive stylus alone. Use Sidecar for an iPad connected to a Mac, SuperDisplay for Android-to-Windows, Duet Display when you need broader iPad/Android and Windows/Mac coverage, and Weylus when you prefer an open-source Linux-oriented solution and are comfortable with technical setup.
Check active-pen compatibility first, begin with USB, configure the correct pressure-input API, and test the complete setup in your actual drawing application before relying on it for a project.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can any tablet become a pressure-sensitive drawing pad?
No. The tablet needs a compatible active pen digitizer and connection software that passes pressure data to the computer. A passive capacitive stylus usually acts like a finger and does not create true pressure sensitivity.
Can I use an iPad as a drawing tablet with Windows?
Yes, with a current cross-platform solution such as Duet Display, provided the iPad, Apple Pencil, Windows version, app tier, and drawing software are supported. Apple Sidecar itself is for supported iPad-and-Mac combinations, not Windows.
Which is best for Android and Windows?
SuperDisplay is the most direct option identified in the official-source research. It requires the Android app, Windows driver, a data-capable connection, and a compatible active stylus. Pressure may require Windows Ink or the SuperDisplay Wintab driver.
Is USB better than wireless for drawing?
USB is usually the best first choice because it reduces wireless congestion and makes troubleshooting easier. Wireless is more convenient, but responsiveness and stability depend on the network, resolution, hardware, and software.
