Use Bing Image Creator to turn a text description into an original image, then refine the prompt and finish the result in a design editor. Open Bing Image Creator, sign in with a Microsoft account for the fullest access, choose an image mode, aspect ratio and quantity, enter a specific prompt, and select Create. Controls, models, quotas and regional availability change, so the steps and limits below reflect the interface checked on August 16, 2026.

What Bing Image Creator does
Bing Image Creator is Microsoft’s browser-based generative-image service. You describe a subject, action, setting and visual treatment; it returns one or more images that you can review, download, save, share or remix. The current page also supports transforming an uploaded image.
It is different from ordinary Bing Images search, which finds existing pictures, and from Bing Visual Search, which analyzes an image you already have. Microsoft Designer is the better next step when you need a finished poster, invitation, banner, collage or social graphic with dependable layout and typography.
Who can use it?
- Guest access may be available, but it has daily capacity limits.
- Signing in with a Microsoft account can unlock additional modes, models, uploads and higher usage access.
- Some features are restricted by country, account eligibility or age.
- Microsoft can temporarily limit the service for capacity problems or content-policy enforcement.
Check the service’s current notices at Bing Image Creator help if a control is missing or a request is refused.

How to create an image with Bing AI
- Open https://www.bing.com/images/create.
- Select Sign in if prompted.
- Set the creation type to Image, not Video.
- Enter a detailed prompt in the text box.
- Choose the available creation mode or model. Names vary by account and rollout.
- Select an aspect ratio suited to the final use.
- Choose the number of images, where that control is offered. Depending on the mode, the choices may be one, two or four.
- Select Create and wait for processing.
- Open the strongest result and use the available download, save, share, remix or editing controls.
- Change one part of the prompt and generate another version when needed.
The current interface advertises 10 free Fast-mode creations and unlimited Standard-mode creations for signed-in users. These are current product claims, not permanent guarantees. Fast creations replenish according to Microsoft’s current rules; Microsoft Rewards may provide eligible boosts.
Choose the aspect ratio before writing
Ratio determines how well the composition fits your destination. Current Image Creator options include ratios such as 1:1, 7:4, 4:7, 3:2 and 2:3; the exact list can differ by mode.

The best Bing Image Creator prompt formula
Use this structure:
Create a [subject] doing [action], in [setting], using [style], with [composition or camera angle], [lighting], [color palette], [mood], and [aspect-ratio or use case].
What to specify
- Subject: the person, object, animal or scene that must appear.
- Action or pose: what it is doing and how it is positioned.
- Environment: location, season, time and surrounding objects.
- Composition: close-up, wide shot, overhead, centered, symmetrical or rule of thirds.
- Perspective: eye-level, low angle, aerial, macro or three-quarter view.
- Style: photorealistic, watercolor, editorial illustration, 3D render, hand-drawn or cinematic concept art.
- Lighting: golden hour, softbox, neon rim light or overcast daylight.
- Color and mood: muted earth tones, jewel tones, calm, dramatic or playful.
- Purpose: blog header, wallpaper, product concept or square social image.
- Exclusions: no watermark, border, duplicate subjects, illegible text or extra fingers.
Microsoft’s prompt guidance recommends concrete details about style, realism, setting and mood. Vague requests such as “make something stunning” leave too many decisions to the model.
Ten copy-and-paste prompts
1. Photorealistic portrait
Create a photorealistic environmental portrait of a ceramic artist in a sunlit studio, clay-covered hands resting on a worktable, eye-level three-quarter composition, soft window light, muted terracotta and cream palette, documentary editorial photography, natural skin texture, no text or watermark.

Create a photorealistic product photograph of matte-black wireless headphones on a pale stone table, soft side lighting, minimal beige studio background, premium technology-advertising style, clean composition, no logo and no text.

3. Blog hero image
Create a wide editorial illustration for an article about remote work: a professional working beside a sunny window with a laptop, plants, notebook and coffee, modern flat illustration, blue and coral palette, generous empty space on the left for a headline, no text.
4. Social-media post
Create a square promotional image for a summer farmers’ market, bright hand-painted fruit and flowers, cheerful yellow and green palette, bold visual hierarchy, empty central area for later text placement, no words or lettering.
5. Children’s story illustration
Create a whimsical watercolor illustration of a small hedgehog carrying a red umbrella through a rainy woodland, soft rounded shapes, expressive face, warm storybook style, gentle blue and green palette.
6. Phone wallpaper
Create a vertical phone wallpaper showing a moonlit mountain lake, reflected stars, dark navy and violet palette, cinematic atmosphere, uncluttered center area, high detail, no text.

7. Fantasy landscape

10. Transform an uploaded image
Remove the people in the background, preserve the main subject’s face and clothing, replace the background with a quiet beach at sunset, match the original lighting and perspective, and keep the image realistic.

Change one variable at a time
- Generate a broad concept.
- Identify the single biggest defect.
- Change only the relevant prompt phrase.
- Compare the new variations with the original.
Fix common visual problems
- Wrong subject: use concrete nouns, colors, materials and countable quantities.
- Weak composition: state camera distance, angle, orientation and subject placement.
- Generic appearance: add surface details, environmental cues, lighting direction and mood.
- Clutter: remove secondary objects and request a simple background.
- Distorted faces or hands: simplify the pose, reduce the number of people and use a closer composition.
- Wrong colors: name a limited palette rather than a broad adjective such as “beautiful.”
- Unreadable wording: generate the artwork without text, then add typography in Designer, PowerPoint, Canva or another layout editor.
- Inconsistent brand or character: use an authorized reference image and expect to iterate; one prompt does not guarantee continuity across a series.
Microsoft warns that generated text can be misspelled or appear in an unintended language. Treat AI lettering as a rough visual element, not finished copy.

How to edit or transform an existing image
Use an upload only when you own the image or have permission to modify it. Do not upload confidential, biometric or sensitive material, or another person’s photo without consent. Microsoft processes uploaded images under the applicable service terms; do not assume private or permanent storage.
Useful transformation requests include removing background distractions, replacing a background while matching perspective, changing lighting, isolating a product, or applying a different illustration treatment. Describe what must remain unchanged—such as a person’s face, clothing, proportions or product shape—then make follow-up edits in the same workflow where available. Microsoft documents this iterative upload-and-edit approach in its Copilot image-generation guidance.

In Microsoft 365 Copilot, the documented path is Create in the left navigation, then Create an image, describe the image or choose a template, optionally add a reference image, choose a style and shape (square, portrait or wide), and select Create. Can you use Bing AI images commercially?
Do not treat the ability to download an image as a blanket commercial license. Check the current Microsoft terms for the exact service and account, then consider copyrightability, trademarks, publicity rights, recognizable people, fictional characters and any reference image you supplied.
Microsoft describes the consumer version of Designer as licensed for personal, non-commercial use with a Microsoft account. That qualification matters if you plan to sell client work, merchandise or advertising. Microsoft also applies content-credentials metadata to AI-generated or edited Designer images. Review the applicable terms at Designer’s FAQ before publishing commercial work.

Fix common Bing Image Creator problems
“The Create button is missing”
- Sign in to a Microsoft account.
- Open the direct Image Creator URL rather than a general Bing search page.
- Try a current desktop browser or the Bing app.
- Check whether the page reports regional, age or account restrictions.
- Retry later if Microsoft reports a capacity or service outage.
“Generation is taking too long”
Processing time changes with demand, mode, account status and service capacity. Wait before submitting repeated requests. If a failed attempt says a boost was not used, retry later instead of redeeming another reward immediately.
“I ran out of Fast creations or boosts”
- Wait for the applicable refresh.
- Switch to Standard mode if it is offered.
- Sign in if you are using guest access.
- Use Microsoft Rewards for an eligible boost.
- Prepare a fuller prompt before spending another generation.

Do not try to evade safety controls. Remove harmful, illegal or sensitive elements, rephrase the request in a lawful way and avoid uploading private images without consent.
“The image has bad text”
- Delete all wording from the image prompt.
- Generate only the background or illustration.
- Add the headline, label or logo in Designer or another editor.
- Proofread the final design manually.
“The ratio is wrong”
Choose the destination ratio before generating. If the available ratio is unsuitable, create a composition with generous negative space and crop or resize it in Designer; do not expect a crop to restore details that were never generated.
