Use flowers to connect the party to the graduate: choose their favorite colors or school colors, repeat that palette in table arrangements and a focal display, and add a bouquet or personalized detail to make the celebration feel specific to them. Small arrangements in glass bottles or bud vases suit tables; a larger floral display can draw attention to a photo area.
Choose a flower palette that feels personal
Start with the graduate’s favorite colors or the colors of their school or alma mater. Hallmark suggests arranging flowers in glass bottles in school colors, while Mississippi State University Extension recommends bouquets in the graduate’s favorite color or college colors. Repeat the chosen palette across table flowers and nearby ribbons or accents so the decor feels connected without requiring every display to match exactly.

Small table arrangements
For a simple centerpiece, place a few flowers in glass bottles or small bud vases. Hallmark specifically suggests flowers in school-color glass bottles for graduation tables. These compact vessels work well when guests need room to talk and reach across the table.
A bouquet for the graduate
A bouquet in favorite or school colors gives the graduate a distinct floral detail, separate from the shared table decor. Mississippi State University Extension includes bouquets among its graduation designs for professional florists.

A hobby-inspired centerpiece
Make a display more personal by adding flower trim to an object connected to the graduate’s interests. Mississippi State University Extension gives examples such as gardening tools, musical instruments, artist easels, and cooking utensils used as buffet or table centerpieces. Keep the floral detail lightweight and choose flowers suited to the display, especially if they will be out of water.
A larger centerpiece or wall display
A USDA-hosted graduation pamphlet recommends matching decorations to the graduation theme and describes flowers in both table-centerpiece and larger wall-decoration settings. If the head table is separate from guest tables, consider a larger centerpiece there and smaller arrangements elsewhere. A flower garland or other floral focal point can add presence near a photo area; scale it to the available wall and party layout.

Hang a floral focal point with care
Removable hooks or decorating clips may be an option for a lightweight garland, but whether they are suitable depends on the specific product, wall surface, and completed decoration. The 3M Command graduation project uses mini hooks and decorating clips for garlands and streamers; its instructions say to wait one hour after installation before hanging decorations. Follow the package directions for cleaning and preparing the surface, placing the adhesive, and staying within the product’s stated weight limits. The project guide does not specifically test flower garlands.
