Indonesia’s official 79th Independence Day logo is a stylized “79” created for the 2024 commemoration, whose theme was “Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju” (“A New Nusantara, An Advanced Indonesia”). The design was selected from work involving the Ministry of State Secretariat, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI), and was launched on 24 June 2024. The Ministry of State Secretariat’s official event page links to the logo and visual identity guide.
What does the 79th Indonesian Independence Day logo mean?
The official explanation reads the flowing “79” through ideas of national identity, economic growth, sustainability, a green economy, unity, decentralization and equality. The concepts support the 2024 theme, “Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju,” which the government said reflected a period of transition.

The 7: national strength and growth
The upper end of the 7 is shaped to evoke the beak of the Garuda, Indonesia’s state emblem, and is associated with the strength of the state. Its upward-right arrow form also signifies hopes for increased investment and exports to advance the economy.
The connected curves: sustainable development
The interlinked curves are described as a symbol of sustainable development, tying the individual forms into a continuous design.

The 9: a green economy rooted in identity
The branch-and-leaf form of the 9 represents development based on a green economy and working in synergy with nature. The official explanation also connects it with respect for Indonesia’s cultural roots and identity.
Joined bases: unity across differences
The shared bases of the 7 and 9 resemble two joined hands. They symbolize Indonesians remaining united despite differences of opinion.

Parallel waves: decentralization and equality
Two waves moving in the same direction, one above and one below, stand for decentralization and more evenly distributed development in pursuit of equality.
The river form: connection and dynamism
The design draws on rivers as sources of life: tributaries branch out and flow toward a shared estuary. The official explanation compares the logo’s long, winding silhouette to the Kapuas River in Kalimantan, associating that form with connection and the hope for a dynamic Indonesia. This is the government’s stated comparison, not a separate claim about the designer’s intent.

Who designed the 79th Indonesia Independence Day logo?
The selected design was created by Inggrid Wenas. The Ministry of State Secretariat reports that the selection involved cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and ADGI. Heru Budi Hartono, then Head of the Presidential Secretariat and chair of the commemoration committee, formally launched the logo on 24 June 2024.

The theme was “Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju,” translated as “A New Nusantara, An Advanced Indonesia.” The Ministry of State Secretariat said it was chosen to describe transition: not only the move of the national capital, but also the next leadership transition.
