Mr Jones Watches builds its identity around art-led, playful designs rather than traditional high horology. A visit to its Forest Hill studio, reported by Time+Tide’s Russell Sheldrake in August 2025, showed how that identity runs through the work: printing, watch construction, quality control and fulfilment all took place under one roof.
What makes Mr Jones Watches different?
The brand treats a watch as a small canvas for an idea. Its official description calls the watches “wearable artwork” and says they are made with illustrators and designers from around the world. The aim, in the brand’s words, is to make “statement watches that tell a story, start a conversation or simply make you smile.”

In his 8 August 2025 feature, Sheldrake described Mr Jones as investing in distinctive designs and their iteration rather than pursuing highly complicated pieces such as grand sonneries. His assessment—that the brand is mastering its own colourful, creative niche—is an opinion from the feature, not a technical performance finding.
What happens inside the Forest Hill studio?
Sheldrake visited the company’s Forest Hill studio after an invitation from founder Crispin Jones. In his account, the space brought together printing, construction, quality control and fulfilment. He describes seeing watchmakers’ benches as well as pad printing, a process used to transfer images onto surfaces.

The combination is significant to the brand’s visual approach: the artwork is not simply a theme applied in marketing, but part of a production process that the 2025 feature observed on site. That report is a snapshot of the studio during the visit, not a guarantee that every function or arrangement remains unchanged.
A team shaped by art and illustration
Sheldrake reported that most of the team members he encountered had backgrounds in art or illustration. He described one person as classically trained in watchmaking and put the team at “about 30-ish” people. Both are approximate observations in the 2025 feature, not a current staffing count.

How the brand began—and how artists contribute
According to Mr Jones Watches’ official brand story, Crispin Jones began designing watches from his London home in 2007. He then reached out to friends and local designers to collaborate. The brand says it now has two London workshops and produces watches in-house; these are the company’s own descriptions of its origins and production.
The official collaboration page invites submissions from established and emerging artists. It asks for a strong concept and distinctive style, while noting that only a small percentage of proposals progress. For designs accepted into the permanent collection, the brand says it pays a design fee and royalties on watches sold. That arrangement applies to selected designs, not every submission.

What this studio story can—and cannot—tell you
