Asian Paints is worth paying more for only when the finish, washability and stated warranty solve a problem you actually have. For broad-area repainting where paint-only cost matters most, Apcolite Premium Emulsion is the value choice. Apcolite Premium Satin costs more and covers less area per litre, but adds a satin sheen, higher washability positioning and a six-year stated performance warranty. Royale is positioned above Apcolite for premium finish and heavily cleaned or high-visibility rooms, although the available evidence is vendor-reported rather than an independent durability test.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Using current listed prices and the midpoint of each product’s two-coat coverage range, Apcolite Premium Emulsion works out to about ₹3.34 per covered sq ft, versus about ₹5.05 for Premium Satin. Those figures exclude primer, putty, labour, surface repairs, wastage and discounts, so compare the complete painted system rather than litre price alone.
What are you actually comparing?
The useful comparison is not simply a cheap paint against an expensive paint. It is a choice among three positions in Asian Paints’ interior range: a general-use emulsion, a more decorative and washable satin emulsion, and Royale, which the manufacturer’s comparison material presents as the premium-finish option. The exact Royale variant matters, so a live quotation should identify the product name, sheen and pack size before you compare it with an Apcolite quote.

Apcolite Premium Emulsion
Apcolite Premium Emulsion is the lower-cost option in the current figures. Asian Paints describes it as a high-washability paint with stain guard, an anti-fungal shield and a five-year performance warranty. Its quoted coverage is 260–300 sq ft per litre for one coat, or 130–150 sq ft per litre for two coats, under normal masonry conditions after brushing.
Apcolite Premium Satin Emulsion
Premium Satin is aimed at rooms where appearance and cleanability carry more weight. It adds a richer satin finish, advanced stain guard, high washability, an anti-fungal shield and a six-year stated performance warranty. The trade-off is lower quoted coverage: 180–220 sq ft per litre for one coat and 95–115 sq ft per litre for two coats.
Royale
Asian Paints’ comparison article positions Royale as the more premium finish, with stronger washability positioning for high-traffic or high-visibility rooms. That article gives a broad indicative range of ₹425–₹600 per litre for Royale and ₹300–₹350 per litre for Apcolite. Those ranges are not a substitute for a current quote: the specific Apcolite product pages list higher MRPs for the packs below, and the Royale range covers multiple variants and pack assumptions.
How much does each paint cost per litre?
The following are current maximum retail prices shown on Asian Paints product pages accessed on 27 October 2026. They are paint-only list prices, not installed prices. Retail discounts, tinting charges, local availability and the exact Royale variant can change what you pay.
| Product | Pack | MRP | Price per litre | Stated performance warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apcolite Premium Emulsion | 20 L | ₹9,350 | ₹467.50/L | 5 years |
| Apcolite Premium Emulsion | 10 L | ₹4,800 | ₹480/L | 5 years |
| Apcolite Premium Emulsion | 4 L | ₹2,000 | ₹500/L | 5 years |
| Apcolite Premium Emulsion | 1 L | ₹520 | ₹520/L | 5 years |
| Apcolite Premium Satin Emulsion | 20 L | ₹10,600 | ₹530/L | 6 years |
| Apcolite Premium Satin Emulsion | 4 L | ₹2,300 | ₹575/L | 6 years |
| Apcolite Premium Satin Emulsion | 1 L | ₹590 | ₹590/L | 6 years |
| Royale | Variant and pack not stated in the comparison range | Not stated | ₹425–₹600/L indicative range | Not stated |
The pack size changes the effective litre price. Buying Apcolite Premium Emulsion in a 20-litre pack costs ₹52.50 less per litre than buying the 1-litre pack. Premium Satin has a ₹60 per litre difference between its 20-litre and 1-litre prices. A small touch-up quantity can therefore be disproportionately expensive, while buying a large pack creates leftover-paint and storage issues.
How many square feet does one litre cover?
Coverage depends on the wall, not only the label. Asian Paints’ figures assume normal masonry after brushing and distinguish one coat from two. Rough, porous, previously unpainted or heavily repaired surfaces can consume more material; spraying, roller technique, dilution and colour change can also alter the result.
| Product | One-coat quoted coverage | Two-coat quoted coverage | Midpoint used for comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apcolite Premium Emulsion | 260–300 sq ft/L | 130–150 sq ft/L | 140 sq ft/L for two coats |
| Apcolite Premium Satin Emulsion | 180–220 sq ft/L | 95–115 sq ft/L | 105 sq ft/L for two coats |
Do not multiply the one-coat number by two to estimate a two-coat job. The published two-coat figures are much lower because the first coat is absorbed differently and the second coat is applied over a changed surface. For budgeting, use the two-coat range when the specification calls for two finish coats.

Worked quantity example for 1,000 sq ft of paintable wall area
For Apcolite Premium Emulsion, 1,000 sq ft divided by the two-coat range of 130–150 sq ft/L requires approximately 6.67–7.69 litres. At the midpoint of 140 sq ft/L, the estimate is 7.14 litres before wastage. Premium Satin requires approximately 8.70–10.53 litres at its 95–115 sq ft/L range, or 9.52 litres at the 105 sq ft/L midpoint.
These are estimates for paintable wall area, not floor area. Subtract doors, windows and built-in cabinets, then add a sensible allowance for mixing, roller loading, colour changes and future touch-ups. A contractor may order a different quantity after inspecting porosity and the existing colour.
What is the cost per covered square foot?
Cost per covered square foot reveals why the cheaper litre is not the only variable. Using the 20-litre pack price and the midpoint of the published two-coat coverage range:
| Product | 20 L price per litre | Two-coat midpoint | Derived cost per covered sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apcolite Premium Emulsion | ₹467.50/L | 140 sq ft/L | About ₹3.34 |
| Apcolite Premium Satin Emulsion | ₹530/L | 105 sq ft/L | About ₹5.05 |
The arithmetic is ₹467.50 divided by 140 for Emulsion and ₹530 divided by 105 for Satin. These are calculations from manufacturer coverage ranges, not manufacturer-quoted unit economics. They exclude primer, acrylic wall putty, labour, repairs, scaffolding, masking, delivery, taxes or wastage. Using the ends of the ranges, Emulsion is roughly ₹3.12–₹3.60 per covered sq ft, while Satin is roughly ₹4.61–₹5.58.

Pack-level pricing can move the result. If you buy only 1-litre or 4-litre packs, the litre price rises, so a small job may have a higher paint-only cost than this table. Conversely, a discounted dealer quote can reduce both products. Ask for the invoice price and the exact litres supplied rather than relying on a catalogue MRP.
Is Royale really more durable than Apcolite?
The available material does not establish an independent, controlled durability advantage measured in a fixed number of years. Asian Paints gives Apcolite Premium Emulsion a five-year performance warranty and Premium Satin a six-year warranty, while its comparison article positions Royale as the more premium, more washable choice. Those are product claims and positioning statements, not proof that Royale will last a specific number of years longer in every home.
Durability in practice depends heavily on preparation, moisture, cleaning frequency, impact, smoke, sunlight, occupancy and the quality of application. A premium topcoat cannot compensate for damp masonry, loose old paint, untreated cracks or an incorrectly prepared substrate. If a quote promises a precise service life, ask which product variant, surface condition, number of coats and warranty terms support that promise.

What the warranties do and do not tell you
- The five-year and six-year periods are stated performance warranties attached to the named Apcolite products, not a guarantee that a whole room will look unchanged for that period.
- Warranty coverage can depend on the documented preparation and application system, so retain the product name, batch details, invoice and contractor scope.
- A one-year difference is relevant only if the finish and cleaning performance are also useful to you; it is not, by itself, enough to justify a higher project cost.
Which paint is best for bedrooms, living rooms and high-traffic areas?
Choose by the room’s cleaning demand, visual prominence and area, then check the complete quote. The following framework keeps the premium decision tied to a concrete use case.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBedrooms and guest rooms
Apcolite Premium Emulsion is usually the sensible starting point when walls receive ordinary household contact and the priority is covering a large area economically. Its high-washability and stain-guard claims provide more protection than a basic economy emulsion without paying Satin’s higher cost per covered square foot.
Living rooms and visible feature areas
Premium Satin is appropriate when you want a richer sheen and easier cleaning and are prepared for lower coverage per litre. Its satin appearance can make the wall feel more finished, but inspect and repair surface irregularities carefully because a more reflective finish can draw attention to unevenness.
Children’s rooms, corridors and stairwells
Start with Premium Satin or a suitable Royale variant when frequent wiping and visible presentation justify the premium. For a very large corridor or rental repaint, calculate the covered-area cost first; the cheaper Emulsion may still be the better value if the walls are not subjected to repeated scrubbing.
High-visibility reception or entertaining rooms
Royale is the option to investigate when finish and washability positioning matter more than the lowest material cost. Confirm the exact Royale product, sheen, coverage, warranty and current price because the available ₹425–₹600 per litre range is broad and does not identify one pack or variant.

For the documented system, yes: plan for primer, acrylic wall putty, primer again and two top coats. New masonry should cure for 28 days before painting. Skipping preparation can reduce adhesion, increase absorption and leave patchy colour, which may cost more in touch-ups than the primer saved.
- Inspect and repair: Remove loose paint, dust, grease and chalking. Repair cracks, holes and water-damaged areas before coating.
- Allow new masonry to cure: Wait 28 days for new masonry, then confirm that the surface is dry and sound.
- Apply the first primer coat: Use the primer specified for the substrate and allow the stated drying time.
- Apply acrylic wall putty: Level dents and texture, then sand and remove dust after it dries.
- Prime the prepared putty: This seals the repaired areas so the finish coat does not flash or absorb unevenly.
- Apply two finish coats: Follow the product’s mixing, recoat and application instructions. Maintain an even wet edge and allow the first coat to dry before the second.
Coverage figures are most meaningful when this preparation is done consistently. On porous plaster, fresh putty or a strong colour change, the first coat may consume more paint than the label range suggests. Ask the painter to include surface repairs and primer in writing rather than presenting an artificially low paint-only estimate.

How do I compare the complete installed cost?
Request an itemised quote with separate quantities and prices for each layer. A low litre price can disappear when the quote uses more litres, omits primer or adds labour later.
| Quote item | What to verify | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Surface preparation | Scraping, crack filling, sanding and protection of fixtures | Neglected repairs reduce finish quality and can increase paint consumption |
| Primer | Product, number of coats and litres | Primer is part of the documented system, not an optional substitute for finish paint |
| Putty | Type, thickness and areas to be levelled | Deep or widespread repairs need more material and drying time |
| Topcoat | Exact product, shade, pack sizes and number of coats | Coverage and litre price differ between Emulsion, Satin and Royale variants |
| Labour | Preparation, application, access equipment and cleanup | Labour can exceed the difference between two paint tiers |
| Wastage and touch-up reserve | Allowance and ownership of leftover paint | Buying too little causes shade mismatch; buying too much ties up money |
Use this formula for a like-for-like comparison: total installed cost = preparation + putty + primer + finish paint + labour + access and protection + delivery and taxes. Then divide by paintable wall area if you want a project-level cost per square foot. Do not compare one contractor’s paint-only MRP with another contractor’s all-inclusive figure.
What are the main trade-offs between Emulsion, Satin and Royale?
| Decision factor | Apcolite Premium Emulsion | Apcolite Premium Satin | Royale |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary position | General-use, value-oriented interior finish | Richer satin finish with higher washability positioning | Premium finish and washability positioning |
| Two-coat coverage | 130–150 sq ft/L | 95–115 sq ft/L | Not stated in the available comparison |
| Lowest listed 20 L litre price | ₹467.50/L | ₹530/L | Not stated for a specific pack |
| Stated warranty | 5 years | 6 years | Not stated in the available comparison |
| Best fit | Bedrooms, guest rooms and broad-area repainting | Rooms needing sheen, cleaning convenience and a longer stated warranty | High-visibility or heavily cleaned rooms after variant and quote verification |
The table is a decision aid, not a laboratory ranking. There is no independent head-to-head test here that proves one range lasts longer under identical conditions. Treat the Royale column as incomplete until the seller identifies the exact product’s coverage, price and warranty.
How can I avoid common buying and application mistakes?
Comparing floor area with paintable area
Coverage applies to wall or ceiling area, not the room’s floor dimensions. Measure each surface, subtract openings, and record ceilings separately if they use a different product or colour.
Using one coat to force the budget
One coat may look acceptable over a similar, sound colour, but the published two-coat figures are the relevant planning basis for a durable, even finish. A thin or incomplete coat can show lap marks, repairs and colour variation and may require an unplanned return visit.
Choosing a large pack solely for the lower litre price
The 20-litre packs have the lowest listed litre prices, but unused tinted paint can become unusable if it is poorly sealed or stored in heat. Buy enough to complete the job from the same batch where practical, and ask the dealer how much can be returned or exchanged before tinting.

Ignoring sheen and wall condition
A satin or premium finish can improve cleanability and visual depth, but it does not hide poor plastering. Allocate budget to repairs and preparation before upgrading the topcoat.

Accepting an unspecified Royale quote
Royale is a family of products rather than one universal price point in the available comparison. Require the exact variant, sheen, pack size, coverage, warranty and invoice price in writing.
Assuming the warranty replaces good preparation
Performance claims are tied to the named product and its application conditions. Keep the scope clear: curing time, primer, putty, number of coats and treatment of damp or cracked areas should all be documented.
What should you choose?
Choose Apcolite Premium Emulsion when the project is large, the walls are ordinary residential surfaces and the main constraint is paint cost per covered area. Its 20-litre MRP is ₹9,350, its two-coat midpoint cost is about ₹3.34 per covered sq ft, and its stated warranty is five years.

Investigate Royale for rooms that are highly visible or cleaned frequently, but do not accept a generic Royale price or a claim of guaranteed extra longevity. Verify the variant and compare the complete installed quote. In every case, primer, putty, curing, surface repairs and two properly applied top coats can matter more than a small difference between paint tiers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Asian Paints MRP prices include primer, labour or painter charges?
No. The listed figures are MRPs for the finish paint packs. Primer, acrylic wall putty, preparation, labour, protection, delivery, taxes and wastage must be priced separately unless a contractor explicitly includes them in an all-inclusive quotation.
Can I mix different pack sizes of the same shade to reduce cost?
You can compare pack combinations mathematically, but keep the shade and product variant identical and mix containers thoroughly. For tinted paint, ask the dealer whether packs are produced from the same base and retain a sealed amount for future touch-ups.
What should I do if the wall remains patchy after two coats?
Stop adding coats until you check the cause. Uneven porosity, insufficient primer, dampness, inadequate drying or an incorrect dilution can create patchiness; correct the surface or preparation issue first, then apply another properly specified coat rather than simply adding more paint.
Is a satin finish suitable for a wall with visible dents?
Satin can reflect more light than a flatter finish, so dents, sanding marks and waviness may be easier to notice at certain angles. Repair and prime the surface carefully before choosing Satin for appearance or cleanability.
Can paint solve a damp-wall problem?
No. Persistent moisture, seepage or salt deposits need to be diagnosed and corrected before painting. Applying a more expensive finish over active dampness can lead to peeling or staining regardless of the product tier.
