“Chibi Dragon” can refer to more than one thing. This guide is about Jo Nakashima’s folded-paper model, not a digital drawing asset or a Dragon Ball character. Nakashima’s instruction sheet, dated 20 February 2015, describes the origami design as simple, estimates 15 minutes to fold, and specifies a 15 × 15 cm square sheet.
What is Jo Nakashima’s Chibi Dragon?
It is an origami dragon design credited to Jo Nakashima. The original instruction sheet presents the model through numbered diagrams, ending at step 40. It also notes that the finished figure will not lie flat, which matters if you are planning to display it on a page or use it in a flat composition. See Jo Nakashima’s model instructions.
What paper do you need?
The instruction sheet specifies square paper measuring 15 × 15 cm and lists standard paper, tissue foil, and wet folding among its paper or technique options. It does not compare these approaches or identify a best-performing choice, so treat them as listed possibilities rather than a tested ranking. A 15 cm square of origami paper matches the stated dimensions; the sheet does not specify a brand, thickness, or price.
How long does it take?
Nakashima’s 2015 sheet labels the model simple and estimates a folding time of 15 minutes. That is the designer’s estimate, not a guaranteed time for every folder; familiarity with diagram-based folding may affect how quickly you work through the 40 numbered steps.

What to expect from the instructions
The model is taught with numbered folding diagrams rather than a prose-only recipe. The diagrams include a pleating instruction beneath the wings. Follow the sequence carefully, and keep in mind the sheet’s note that the completed dragon will not lie flat.
Could “Chibi Dragon” mean something else?
Yes. The phrase is ambiguous, and the other documented results are separate subjects:

- “Chibi with Dragon” is a Clip Studio digital drawing asset by ShizukoDrawing, listed for illustration, comics, webtoons, character design, and drawing practice. It is not an origami pattern: view the Clip Studio asset listing.
- Chibi from Dragon Ball Z is a character the official Dragon Ball site identifies as Toto’s child and Goten’s friend; the site lists episode 204 of Dragon Ball Z as Chibi’s first appearance: read the official character profile.
Those uses should not be confused with Nakashima’s paper-folding design.
