Objecticus Eclecticus was an exhibition of new work and selected prints by Australian artist Leon Pericles AM at Linton & Kay Galleries’ Cottesloe Gallery in May 2025. The gallery archive dates it 1–25 May; the artist profile gives 1–24 May. The title’s reference to Pericles as a Jacksons art competition judge should not be taken as confirmation that he judged Jackson’s 2025 Art Prize: its official judge list does not include him.
Objecticus Eclecticus at Linton and Kay Galleries Cottesloe
Linton & Kay Galleries’ exhibition archive records Objecticus Eclecticus at its Cottesloe Gallery from 1 to 25 May 2025, describing the presentation as new work alongside selected prints. The gallery’s exhibition archive and Leon Pericles artist profile agree on the exhibition’s title, venue and month, but the profile gives the closing date as 24 May rather than 25 May. The sources therefore establish the May 2025 run, while differing by one day on its exact end date.
What the gallery says about the work
The gallery profile highlights Pericles’ etching Marks of Perpetual Significance, describing it as exploring “the evolution of writing and enduring symbols.” That description points to the persistence of marks and signs as a subject in Pericles’ printmaking. The available gallery record does not establish that this etching was the exhibition’s only work or its principal work.
The exhibition combined new work with selected prints; the gallery’s public descriptions do not provide a complete itemised checklist. They establish the exhibition’s scope, but not the full range or number of works shown.

Was Leon Pericles a judge of Jackson’s 2025 Art Prize?
The available sources do not establish that he was. Jackson’s official 2025 Art Prize page names six guest judges: Anita Klein, Anne Rothenstein, Péjú Oshin, Hugo Barclay, Andrew Torr and Joshua Donkor. Pericles is not among them.
Pericles’ official website has a blog/news snippet saying he was honoured to be on “the judging panel,” but the snippet does not identify the competition or year. It cannot substantiate a claim that he judged the 2025 prize, or determine which competition the reference concerns. His website also preserves his comment, “Jacksons have been my trusty supplier throughout my career”; that broader supplier relationship does not identify materials used for Objecticus Eclecticus. The snippets appear on his official blog.

Its finalists’ exhibition presented 57 original paintings, drawings and prints at London’s Bankside Gallery from 24 to 29 June 2025. These figures describe the competition and its London exhibition, not Pericles’ May show in Cottesloe.
