LibreCAD 2.2.1.3 is a genuine official LibreCAD maintenance release, published after 2.2.1.2. It is not the newest stable version anymore: as of August 18, 2026, the official LibreCAD releases page lists 2.2.1.5 as the latest stable release.

Use 2.2.1.3 when you need that exact historical build or must reproduce an older environment. For a new installation, choose the latest official stable release instead.

What is LibreCAD 2.2.1.3?

LibreCAD is a free, open-source, cross-platform 2D CAD application for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is licensed under GPLv2 and is designed for technical drawing rather than 3D solid modeling.

LibreCAD can read DXF and DWG files and can write DXF, DWG, PDF, and SVG files. Its drawing tools cover common geometry such as lines, circles, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas, and splines. File-format support does not guarantee perfect preservation of every modern AutoCAD object, annotation, proxy, or custom feature.

Is LibreCAD 2.2.1.3 legitimate?

Yes. Version 2.2.1.3 was an official release published by the LibreCAD project. It was followed by 2.2.1.4 and 2.2.1.5.

Download it only from the project’s official GitHub releases page. Be cautious with renamed installers, unofficial “portable” packages, modified builds, release candidates, and third-party download portals.

What changed in 2.2.1.3?

This was a maintenance release, not a major feature release. Its official changelog includes the following changes:

Change What it means
Unicode default for dlgmtext Relevant to text creation and editing, particularly when non-ASCII characters or font handling are involved.
Global Shift+Spacebar shortcut Adds a keyboard shortcut; the precise command behavior depends on the application context.
Action-handler cleanup Internal maintenance intended to correct or simplify action handling.
Loop-validation fix Corrects part of the validation behavior for loops and boundary-related geometry.
AArch64 AppImage fixes Improves Qt-plugin packaging for ARM64 Linux AppImages.
Windows build fixes Addresses build and packaging issues rather than adding a new CAD subsystem.
PenWizard disabled by default Changes a default behavior for users who rely on PenWizard-related functionality.
duplicateLayerEntity() fix Corrects a layer/entity duplication issue.

These notes should be understood as targeted maintenance changes. They do not establish that every text, contour, packaging, or stability problem is solved.

Should you install 2.2.1.3?

For most new users, no. As of August 18, 2026, LibreCAD 2.2.1.5 is the latest stable release listed by the official project page. Later 2.2.1.x releases include additional fixes, including changes involving Windows file associations, copy-and-paste scaling, block insertion, packaging, translations, and internationalization.

Choose 2.2.1.3 when:

  • A project, lab, classroom, script, template, or support procedure requires the exact version.
  • You are reproducing an older software environment.
  • A newer release has introduced a compatibility problem in your workflow.
  • You are preserving an archive or validating historical output.

Choose a later stable release when:

  • You are installing LibreCAD for the first time.
  • You want the newest maintenance fixes in the 2.2.1 series.
  • You need current packaging or translation improvements.
  • You are using a newer operating-system environment without a fixed-version requirement.

How to download the official release

  1. Open the official LibreCAD releases page.
  2. Select the v2.2.1.3 tag if you need this exact version.
  3. Expand Assets.
  4. Choose the package matching your operating system and processor architecture.
  5. Verify a published checksum when one is available.

Do not confuse the tagged stable release with a release candidate, a latest build from a branch, or a development build from master. The project’s documentation distinguishes stable releases from interim builds, which may be less stable.

Which package should you choose?

Windows

Look for the official .exe installer and select the correct 32-bit or 64-bit package if multiple assets are offered. The 2.2.1.3 release announcement notes that its Windows builds used MSVC rather than MinGW.

After installation, open a test DXF file and confirm that file associations point to the intended LibreCAD version. If Windows SmartScreen displays a warning, first confirm that the installer came from the official GitHub release assets rather than accepting an unknown executable.

macOS Intel and Apple Silicon

Use the .dmg matching your Mac’s processor. Do not assume that every historical 2.2.1.3 package is universal; check the actual asset name on the release page.

The Apple Silicon package for 2.2.1.3 has a specific macOS security caveat: it is not notarized and may be unsigned or ad-hoc signed. Try Control-click or right-click the app → Open first. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally.

If macOS still blocks the application and you obtained it from the official release source, the project documents this workaround after extracting the application bundle:

xattr -rc LibreCAD.app
sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - LibreCAD.app

The second command applies an ad-hoc signature. It does not make LibreCAD Apple Developer ID-signed or notarized. A later stable release may provide a more convenient package.

Linux

Linux users can choose an official AppImage, a distribution package, or a Snap where available. The official documentation lists packages and sources for distributions including Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, Gentoo, and openSUSE.

Distribution repositories may contain a version older or newer than the upstream GitHub release. If you specifically need 2.2.1.3, use the matching upstream asset rather than assuming your distribution package has the same version.

For an x86_64 AppImage, executable permission may be required:

chmod +x LibreCAD-v2.2.1.3-x86_64.AppImage

AArch64 and x86_64 AppImages are not interchangeable. An incorrect architecture can produce an execution or loader error. AppImages may also require compatible FUSE support.

What can LibreCAD do?

  • Create and edit conventional 2D technical drawings.
  • Work with common DXF and DWG-based workflows.
  • Export drawings to DXF, DWG, PDF, and SVG.
  • Draw lines, circles, ellipses, splines, and other standard geometry.
  • Support laser-cutting, CNC preparation, floor plans, diagrams, and educational CAD work.
  • Convert DXF files from the command line using documented examples such as:
librecad dxf2pdf foo.dxf
librecad dxf2png foo.dxf
librecad dxf2svg foo.dxf

LibreCAD is a poor fit for parametric 3D modeling, assemblies, BIM, advanced rendering, enterprise document management, or workflows that require perfect round-tripping of every modern DWG feature.

Compatibility checks before changing versions

Back up drawings, templates, preferences, and scripts before installing another LibreCAD build. Opening the same DXF with multiple versions can change file associations, default settings, configuration locations, or script behavior.

For important drawings, inspect the result after opening or exporting:

  • Text and fonts
  • Hatches
  • Blocks
  • Layers
  • Line weights
  • Dimension styles
  • Proxy or unsupported entities

Keep the original file and work on a copy while checking compatibility.

Building LibreCAD from source

The prebuilt Windows and macOS packages normally include the dependencies needed to run the application. The Qt requirement matters mainly when compiling or packaging LibreCAD yourself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The project repository states that the 2.2.1 branch requires Qt 5.15.0 or newer. This differs from the 2.2.2 branch, which requires Qt 6.4.0 or newer. Do not install Qt manually merely because you are using an official prebuilt installer unless that package’s documentation specifically requires it.

LibreCAD compared with alternatives

Need Better direction
Free, open-source 2D CAD LibreCAD
Commercial 2D CAD with vendor support QCAD
Broad professional DWG compatibility and advanced CAD features AutoCAD
Commercial DWG-focused workflow DraftSight
Parametric 3D modeling and solids FreeCAD

LibreCAD does not require a software purchase. Paid alternatives make sense only when their support, compatibility, 3D tools, or broader feature sets solve a requirement LibreCAD cannot.

The Bottom Line

Verdict: LibreCAD 2.2.1.3 is legitimate, useful for conventional 2D drafting, and appropriate when an exact historical environment matters. It is an older maintenance release, however. For ordinary new installations, download the latest stable LibreCAD release listed on the official project page rather than treating 2.2.1.3 as current.
