Yes. Microsoft announced Bing Image Creator on March 21, 2023, bringing text-prompted image generation to Bing chat and Microsoft Edge preview using an “advanced version” of OpenAI’s DALL·E model. DALL·E 3 was announced for Bing Image Creator later in 2023; Microsoft subsequently changed the product names, and in August 2025 said users could choose between DALL·E 3 and GPT-4o.
What Microsoft announced in 2023
Microsoft’s March 21, 2023 announcement introduced Bing Image Creator. It generated an image from a written description rather than displaying an image-search result. Microsoft said users could describe a picture in their own words, add details such as location or activity, and choose an art style.
The feature began rolling out in Bing chat’s Creative mode and was also coming to Microsoft Edge preview. The rollout was staged, so the launch announcement did not mean that every user had access immediately.

The model and product-name changes are separate developments: DALL·E 3 was announced for Bing Image Creator in September 2023, while the Bing Chat-to-Copilot naming change was announced in November. Microsoft’s 2024 Bing assessment states that the service renaming involved “no material changes” to the services offered via Bing.

Which DALL·E model did Bing use?
For the March 2023 launch, Microsoft’s wording was “an advanced version” of OpenAI’s DALL·E model. The launch announcement did not name that version as DALL·E 2 or DALL·E 3. Microsoft announced DALL·E 3 for Bing Image Creator later that year in its Copilot announcement.
In an August 6, 2025 Bing blog post, Microsoft said GPT-4o had joined DALL·E 3 as a selectable model in Bing Image Creator. These are dated product details, not confirmation of which models or controls are available in every interface today.

How to create an image
- Open Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator or another Microsoft surface that offers image creation.
- Sign in if the service asks you to.
- Describe the image you want in the prompt box. Microsoft’s launch announcement suggested phrases such as “draw an image” or “create an image.”
- If model choices or other controls are shown, select the option you want.
- Submit the prompt and review the generated result.
Microsoft’s launch feature was integrated into Bing chat’s Creative mode and Edge preview. Later product surfaces and controls may differ; the available interface and access can change over time.
Availability and creation limits
At launch, Bing Image Creator rolled out in stages, beginning in Bing chat’s Creative mode. Microsoft’s August 6, 2025 post described 15 daily fast creations, followed by fast creations costing 10 Microsoft Rewards points each, with standard-speed creations available without a stated limit. The same post said availability was worldwide except Russia and China. These are the terms reported in that dated post, not verified October 2026 terms.

Check Microsoft’s current product information for present-day access, regional availability, and limits rather than assuming that a past rollout or quota still applies.
Safety and image labeling
Microsoft said at launch that it incorporated OpenAI safeguards and added protections of its own. It described blocking prompts detected as potentially harmful and marking generated images with a modified Bing icon. Microsoft’s 2024 assessment also describes safety measures around the image-generation service. A blocked request may reflect those protections rather than a technical failure.

Is Bing Image Creator the same as Copilot?
They are related Microsoft experiences, but the names refer to different parts of the product. Microsoft renamed Bing Chat to Microsoft Copilot; its 2024 assessment used the names “Copilot in Bing” and “Image Creator from Bing.” Microsoft said that service renaming did not materially change what Bing offered.
