Midjourney currently offers no free trial on Midjourney.com or through Discord, so you need a paid subscription to generate images on the main website. A limited trial may be available through the niji·journey mobile app for iOS and Android, subject to availability and eligibility; that is not a website trial.
Does Midjourney have a free trial?
Not on Midjourney.com or in Discord. Midjourney’s Free Trials documentation describes a limited trial through the niji·journey app, but availability and eligibility can change. Check the official page before relying on it.
niji·journey is a related mobile app focused on anime and illustrative imagery. A trial there is not a free trial of Midjourney.com. Older articles and videos may describe former free-generation offers or previous access rules, not the current website experience.
Can you generate images on Midjourney.com without paying?
You can create an account and browse public work in Explore without subscribing, but browsing does not provide image-generation access. Midjourney’s Getting Started Guide directs users to subscribe before creating their first image on the website. If Create will not accept a prompt, an active subscription may be required rather than there being a technical fault.

How to generate your first image on Midjourney.com
- Go to Midjourney.com.
- Select Log In or Sign Up and complete authentication.
- Open the subscription area, usually labelled Manage Subscription, and choose a plan.
- Complete checkout. Midjourney’s subscription instructions identify Stripe as the payment processor; check the billing frequency before paying.
- Open the Create page.
- Enter a description in the Imagine bar.
- Press Enter on desktop or use the send button on mobile.
- Wait for generation to finish. The official guide describes the result as a four-image grid.
- Select an image to see the available controls for refinement.
Interface labels can change. If a tutorial shows different buttons, follow the controls visible in your account and consult the current official guide rather than copying old Discord instructions.
What should your first prompt say?
A practical starting structure is subject, setting, composition, lighting, mood, and visual direction. For example: “A small red fox sitting beside a moss-covered stone in a misty forest, cinematic morning light, detailed natural textures, shallow depth of field.” This is a guide, not a required formula. Specific nouns can make an idea easier to interpret than vague descriptions; framing terms such as “close-up,” “wide shot,” “top-down,” or “portrait” can help communicate composition.
Expect to iterate. A first result may have the wrong pose, object, expression, or detail. Revise the prompt, make variations, or use editing controls rather than expecting one prompt to produce a finished image.

What can you do after the first four images?
After reviewing the grid, you can typically choose an image to upscale, create variations, use zoom-out or pan-style modifications where available, continue editing with the website’s tools, or reuse an image as a prompt or reference where supported. Settings near the Imagine bar can provide generation options. Controls and model compatibility vary, so check the model selector in your account rather than relying on an old tutorial’s version number or parameter. Midjourney’s documentation and live website may show different model labels.
How much does Midjourney cost?
These are the prices shown in Midjourney’s official plan comparison at the time of research. Checkout totals may vary with taxes, region, or plan changes.

Midjourney lists annual billing as 20% cheaper, with the full year paid upfront. Additional Fast GPU time is listed at $4 per hour. GPU time does not translate into a guaranteed number of images because generation speed and usage vary by operation and settings.
Standard, Pro, and Mega include unlimited image generation in Relax Mode, according to the official plan comparison. Stealth Mode is listed only for Pro and Mega.
Which plan is best for a beginner?
- Basic: A low-cost choice for occasional experimentation or a first month testing the web workflow. It does not include Relax image generation.
- Standard: Better for frequent prompting and trial and error because it includes unlimited image generation in Relax Mode.
- Pro: Relevant when Stealth Mode or substantially more Fast GPU time is important.
- Mega: Intended for very heavy usage.
Start with Basic if you simply want to test whether Midjourney suits you. Choose Standard if you expect to generate repeatedly. Neither plan is free, and Basic does not guarantee a fixed number of images.
Watch the billing settings
Subscriptions automatically renew monthly or yearly unless cancelled. Midjourney’s subscription page selects annual billing by default, so switch to the Monthly Billing tab before checkout if you do not want to pay for a full year upfront.
To stop future renewals, use Manage Subscription in your account. Deleting the app, leaving Discord, or stopping image generation does not cancel a subscription. Cancellation and refund eligibility are separate matters; review Midjourney’s current billing terms before purchasing.

Are Midjourney images private?
Midjourney is open by default, and images and videos may be discoverable on Explore. Website-level Stealth Mode is listed for Pro and Mega, not Basic or Standard.
Do not upload confidential client material, unreleased designs, private photographs, or sensitive personal information unless the account’s privacy controls and Midjourney’s current terms are suitable for that use. Stealth Mode should not automatically be treated as a guarantee that every confidential workflow is legally or operationally appropriate.
Can you use Midjourney images commercially?
Midjourney’s plan information says subscribers own the images and videos they create and may use them under the applicable commercial terms. It also says companies generating more than $1 million in gross revenue per year must purchase Pro or Mega. Read the current plan information and Terms of Service before using outputs in paid client work or advertising.
Usage permission is not the same as guaranteed copyright protection. Commercial projects may still involve trademark, publicity-rights, privacy, likeness, or third-party intellectual-property issues. Midjourney does not guarantee legal clearance for every generated image.
What to do if Midjourney does not work as expected
The free-trial option is missing
That matches the current official policy for Midjourney.com and Discord. Check the Free Trials page rather than entering payment details based on an old tutorial.

Generation is slow
Check whether your Fast GPU time has been used. Standard and higher plans can use Relax Mode for eligible image work, while extra Fast time is listed at $4 per hour.
Your images are visible to others
That is normal for Midjourney’s open-by-default setup. If website-level privacy is essential, compare the current Pro and Mega Stealth Mode requirements before subscribing.
A tutorial’s interface looks different
The web interface, model labels, and available controls change. Use the current Create page and official documentation; do not assume a Discord command or version-specific parameter applies to the website.
