Holly Levell’s textile sculptures turn familiar shopping and snack items into handmade, soft objects. Historical accounts document a Monster Munch sculpture, references to Flumps, and a “giant” Mini Cheddars cushion, alongside her broader Supermarket Stitch series. The records date from 2012–2013; they do not establish whether the work or the artist’s portfolio is currently available.

How the snack sculptures fit into Levell’s work

Heart Gallery describes Levell as a textile artist who uses soft sculpture to reinterpret everyday things. Its 2012 profile says she was interested in overlooked parts of daily life and in changing how humble objects are perceived through textile techniques. The profile traces Supermarket Stitch to a moment while she was stitching a flat bean can: she considered making the can itself from stitched textiles, transforming a familiar solid object into what the gallery calls “softening the lines of a usually solid idea.” Heart Gallery’s 2012 profile

The snack pieces extend that premise. Instead of reproducing food itself, they make recognizable consumer objects—the packages and branded snacks encountered in everyday shopping—into textile forms. That shift from familiar, manufactured packaging to handmade softness is the central visual idea.

Which snack-themed works are documented?

  • Monster Munch: Make: featured a sculpture by Levell in a post dated March 16, 2012. The article linked at the time to her website for more snack examples, but that historical link does not confirm that the site or portfolio remains available. Make:’s Monster Munch feature
  • Flumps: A December 2013 textile student blog linked to a post whose title references Flumps, providing a secondary historical record of another snack-related subject. Textiles by Becca’s 2013 post
  • Mini Cheddars: The same student blog referenced a “giant Mini Cheddars cushion.” The description establishes the work’s subject and cushion form, but supplies no measurements. Textiles by Becca’s 2013 post

These records suggest variety in both snack references and object forms, but they are not a complete catalogue of the series. They also do not provide consistent dimensions for comparing the pieces by size.

What the sources say about materials and making

Heart Gallery reports that the sculptures are handmade from a variety of fabrics and that each takes a few days to make. A contemporary 2012 review of the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair describes Levell’s work as felt-fabric interpretations of modern shopping items and says she embroidered freehand on a sewing machine. These are brief descriptions in gallery and event coverage, not a step-by-step account of the artist’s methods. Heart Gallery profile; Fishink’s 2012 craft-fair review

For someone exploring a related project, the documented techniques point to fabric construction and freehand machine embroidery as relevant approaches. The sources do not specify a pattern, exact fabric types, machine model, needle, or thread, and they do not identify particular tools as artist recommendations.
