Row 2 of Pat Sloan’s 2016 Mystery Row Quilt is a simple multicolor spacer row: its repeated 6-inch finished blocks create a visual pause between more detailed rows. The row finishes at 6 × 60 inches.
What Row 2 does in the quilt
The 2016 Mystery Row Quilt was designed by Pat Sloan. In the project’s pattern, Row 2 uses a simpler blender treatment rather than the more elaborate designs in neighboring rows. The April 2016 issue extract explains that this treatment provides visual relief and that the row is repeated three times in the finished quilt for continuity. The extract also traces the spacer-row idea to Lissa Alexander.
See the AllPeopleQuilt Mystery Row Quilt pattern for the row instructions and full project assembly.

AllPeopleQuilt specifies that each Row 2 block finishes at 6 inches square and that the completed row measures 6 × 60 inches. These are finished dimensions; consult the pattern for cutting and assembly instructions.
#1 Best Overall
The pattern’s fabric list covers the entire quilt, not Row 2 alone. Its yardage and cutting directions assume 42 inches of usable fabric width.

Choosing fabrics for Row 2
The original project used Hometown Girl batiks by Pat Sloan for Moda Fabrics, according to an April 2016 issue extract hosted by a third party. Current availability of that collection is not established. The pattern calls for batiks, but you can choose equivalent fabrics rather than relying on that historic collection.
Rank #2
For a substitute, consider how the fabric’s value, print scale, and colors relate to the other rows. A simpler blender print can help preserve Row 2’s spacer role; this is practical design guidance, not a tested requirement of the pattern.
