Yes. CorelDRAW supports EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) files. For the most control, create or open a drawing, choose File → Import, select the EPS, and choose Import as editable or Place as encapsulated PostScript. Editable import lets you work with converted CorelDRAW objects; placement preserves the supplied appearance but does not expose individual elements.
What an EPS file is—and why it may behave differently
EPS means Encapsulated PostScript. It is normally a single-page graphic intended to be embedded in another document. An EPS can contain vector paths, text, bitmap images, a screen preview and PostScript instructions for printing or rendering. CorelDRAW describes the format and its limitations in its EPS documentation.
An EPS is not a native .cdr file. Its object structure, live effects, clipping paths, transparency, gradients and fonts may not survive conversion exactly. Some EPS files are highly editable; others are effectively finished artwork with only limited recoverable objects.
How to open an EPS in CorelDRAW
- Launch CorelDRAW and create a new drawing or open the document that will contain the artwork.
- Choose File → Import. CorelDRAW can also attempt File → Open, but importing exposes the EPS-specific choices and is the safer general workflow. See Corel’s opening-drawings guidance and import instructions.
- Browse to the file. The filter may be shown as
PS, EPS, PRN - PostScript (*.ps; *.eps; *.prn); wording can differ by release and operating system. - Select the EPS and click Import.
- In the Import EPS dialog, choose Import as editable or Place as encapsulated PostScript.
- If you choose editable import, select Text to retain text objects or Curves to convert lettering into outlines.
- Click OK, then click on the page to place the artwork.
Save an untouched copy of the original EPS before ungrouping, converting text or making production edits.

Editable import or encapsulated placement?

Choose editable import for a logo or illustration you must adapt. Choose encapsulated placement for final artwork that only needs positioning or output. Corel documents both modes and their restrictions at this EPS technical reference.
Text, fonts and curves
Keep text as text
Select Text when you need to change wording and the required fonts are installed and licensed. If an EPS references a font unavailable on your computer, CorelDRAW may substitute another face, changing spacing, line breaks or proportions.

Convert text to curves
Select Curves when preserving the supplied letter shapes is more important than editing the words. Outlines avoid later font substitution, but normal text editing is lost. Keep the original EPS so you can return to live text if the client requests a wording change.

When the file uses unavailable fonts and the wording is final, placing it as encapsulated PostScript can preserve the displayed appearance while leaving the text non-editable.

Why an EPS appears as a gray box or blank page
CorelDRAW says an EPS without a preview image may appear as a gray box. That screen preview is separate from the underlying PostScript, so a gray box does not by itself prove that the artwork is empty or corrupt.
- Try File → Import rather than opening the EPS as a document.
- Choose Import as editable, click the page, and use zoom-to-selection or the Objects docker to locate the result.
- Check whether the object was placed outside the page, hidden inside a group or clipped by a mask.
- If it remains blank, open the file in another legitimate vector application and re-save it as PDF, SVG, AI or another EPS variant.
- For production-critical work, ask the sender for a proof PDF or an outlined export.
When EPS import fails
“Unsupported file”
- Confirm the extension, file size and transfer completeness; a renamed non-EPS file will not become valid PostScript.
- Try importing into an existing drawing instead of using File → Open.
- Corel notes that not every format filter is installed by default. If EPS is listed but unavailable, update or repair the installation as described in the supported-format documentation.
- Ask the sender for PDF, AI, SVG or outlined EPS, and test the file in a second vector editor.
PostScript and Ghostscript support
Corel documentation associates Ghostscript with interpreting PostScript, including PostScript Level 3 files. Installation options differ by CorelDRAW release, platform and deployment method; check whether the required PostScript support is installed for your version. Ghostscript is not a universal repair tool. Its official site is ghostscript.com.

“The artwork is one object”
That is normal for encapsulated placement. Re-import as editable if you need access to separate elements, accepting that conversion may alter some features.
“The colors changed”
Differences can result from color-space settings, spot-color handling, rasterized effects or conversion into CorelDRAW-native objects. Compare the result with the supplied proof and confirm the intended color requirements for the print process rather than assuming EPS guarantees identical color management.

Check the artwork before production
- Confirm the artwork is on the page and at the intended scale.
- Inspect the Objects docker, groups, clipping paths and masked objects.
- Review every text object for font substitution; verify outlined lettering against the supplied proof.
- Check fills, strokes, spot colors and the document’s output color space.
- Inspect embedded bitmap content at the final physical size; EPS can contain raster images as well as vectors.
- Compare the imported result with the original preview or a client-supplied PDF.
- Save a working copy as
.cdrwhile retaining the original EPS unchanged.
Do you need CorelDRAW to open an EPS?
Not necessarily. A single viewing or conversion task does not justify buying a full graphics suite. Inkscape is a free option for occasional vector editing, although complex production EPS files may import differently; visit inkscape.org. Adobe Illustrator is sensible when your clients’ files and workflow are Adobe-centered; see Adobe Illustrator.
CorelDRAW is a stronger fit when you need native CDR editing, sign or print production tools and repeatable desktop workflows. Corel announced Graphics Suite 2026 on March 3, 2026; its current product information lists Windows 10/11 64-bit support, but requirements and EPS controls vary by edition and platform. Review the 2026 announcement and current product page. The page advertises a 15-day trial with no credit card required, subject to live signup terms.
Purchase models and features differ: the one-time purchase does not include every subscription-exclusive feature, app or workflow. Compare them at Corel’s comparison page. CorelDRAW Go and CorelDRAW Standard are separate products, so verify EPS support and the exact import controls for the edition you choose in the product-family comparison.
