Choose a notebook cover by measuring the notebook itself—height, width and thickness—then checking the maker’s fit list. Size labels such as A5, B6 and B6 Slim are not reliable substitutes for those checks: notebook proportions vary, and a thick planner or a notebook with inserts may need extra room. If you use a sketchbook for painting notes or studies, check its dimensions and thickness the same way.

How to find a cover that fits
- Measure the notebook. Record its height and width, then measure its thickness. Include inserts or accessories that will stay in it.
- Check what the maker’s dimensions describe. A published measurement may describe the cover’s outside dimensions, its intended notebook size or the open cover. These are not interchangeable.
- Look for your notebook model in the compatibility list. A named fit example is more useful than a size label alone. If your notebook is not listed, compare its measurements with the maker’s stated maximum notebook dimensions and ask the maker if the fit is uncertain.
- Allow for a thicker setup. Elastics, pockets and closures can affect how comfortably a full notebook sits. Measure it in the state you plan to carry it.
The variations are real, not merely a matter of naming: 1.61 Soft Goods lists separate dimensions for B6, B6 Extra, B6 Slim and B6 Jibun covers. Its listing also advises measuring thicker or expanded setups before ordering (1.61 Soft Goods).

Size names can refer to different proportions, and makers may use them alongside specific notebook models or sizing conventions. For example, Asperaria names Stalogy 365Days B6 and Kokuyo Campus B6 as JIS B6 fit examples for its B6 Arizona cover, and separately identifies ISO B6 dimensions. Its stated maximum notebook fit is 5.0 × 7.2 inches; the closed cover measures 5.3 × 7.7 inches (Asperaria B6 Arizona).

B6 Slim is not simply another way to say B6. MD Product describes its goat-leather cover as compatible with its own B6 Slim notebook and diary, so that compatibility should not be assumed for other brands’ notebooks (MD Product B6 Slim cover).
Published dimensions and fit examples
These are maker-published specifications, not universal definitions of A5, A6 or B6. Check each maker’s current listing and compare it with your notebook before ordering.

Choose the construction for how you use the notebook
Slip or sleeve covers
A slip cover is a straightforward choice if you want to protect one notebook and prefer not to change its pages or inserts. Tusting’s A5 listing describes a leather slip cover with microfibre suede lining and slip pockets; the first lined notebook is included (Tusting A5 cover).
Elastic and refillable covers
An elastic system can hold more than one notebook or let you swap inserts. Forest Nine says its trifold cover holds four notebooks with elastics, while its inserts are sold separately (Forest Nine trifold cover). Check both the number of inserts the system accommodates and whether they come with the cover.

Compare material, storage and care
Maker listings show that notebook covers come in different materials and constructions: the cited examples include full-grain or other genuine leather, goat leather and vegan leather. These descriptions are product information, not independent testing of durability or environmental impact. - Material and lining: Check the exact material description and lining, not just the product title. Asperaria describes its B6 Arizona leather as LWG-certified; that is the maker’s claim on its listing.
- Closure: Consider whether a wrap, elastic, trifold or open slip design suits how you carry the notebook and access it.
- Storage and pen carry: Check whether pockets or a pen loop are present if you need them. Erin Condren describes a pen loop and brass corner protectors on its B6 Slim cover; Tusting describes slip pockets.
- Contents: Confirm whether the listing is for the cover alone or includes a notebook or inserts. Tusting says its first lined notebook is included; Forest Nine says its inserts are sold separately.

- Match your notebook’s measured height, width and thickness to the maker’s stated fit.
- Check the exact notebook model or sizing convention named in the compatibility list.
- Confirm whether dimensions refer to the cover open, the cover closed or the notebook it can hold.
- Choose a slip cover or a refillable system based on whether you want one notebook or interchangeable inserts.
- Verify material, closure, pockets, pen storage and what the listing includes.
