Krita is our favorite free drawing program for serious digital painting, but it is not the right answer for every artist. Inkscape is better for logos and vector illustration, Sketchbook is easier for quick sketching, GIMP is stronger when photo editing matters, and Photopea is the best no-install option.

Table of Contents

The short list

There is no single best free drawing application because digital painting, vector design, comic production, photo compositing, and casual sketching use different tools. Start with the workflow rather than the number of brushes an application advertises.

Software Best for Platforms Type What free means Main drawback
Krita Painting, illustration, concept art, comics, basic animation Windows, macOS, Linux, Android tablets Raster-first Free and open source More complex than a basic sketchbook
Inkscape Logos, icons, diagrams, typography, scalable artwork Windows, macOS, Linux Vector Free and open source Not a natural-media painting tool
GIMP Photo editing, compositing, image preparation, and drawing Windows, macOS, Linux Raster-first Free and open source Less drawing-focused than Krita
Sketchbook Fast, approachable sketching on desktop and mobile Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Android Raster Free mobile core; desktop and Premium features vary Not simply free on every platform
FireAlpaca Lightweight desktop painting and comics Windows, macOS, Linux Raster Freeware; commercial use permitted under its terms Fewer advanced tools than Krita
MediBang Paint Manga, webcomics, screentones, and mobile-to-desktop work Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Android Raster Free tier with account and Premium features Cloud, account, and paid-feature complications
Photopea Browser-based editing, PSD work, and Chromebooks Any modern browser Raster and vector Free, ad-supported; no account needed for basic use Manual-save risk and browser-dependent performance
Paint.NET Simple Windows drawing and image editing Windows only Raster Free official download; commercial use permitted Limited painting depth and no macOS or Linux version
MyPaint Minimal, distraction-free freehand painting Windows, macOS, Linux Raster Free and open source Stable release dates from 2020
Artweaver Free Traditional-media simulation for personal or academic use Windows, macOS Raster Free only for noncommercial and academic purposes Cannot generally be used for paid work

For most readers, the practical shortlist is simple: choose Krita for painting, Inkscape for vector art, GIMP for photo-heavy work, Sketchbook for low-friction sketching, FireAlpaca for a lighter commercial-use desktop tool, and Photopea when installation is impossible.

First, decide what kind of drawing you mean

Raster drawing and painting

Raster applications paint pixels. They are the natural choice for textured brushes, soft shading, blended color, line art, digital painting, pixel art, photographic edits, and most frame-by-frame painting. Krita, GIMP, FireAlpaca, MediBang Paint, MyPaint, Sketchbook, Paint.NET, and Photopea all work primarily or partly in this model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A raster canvas has a fixed resolution. If you enlarge a small finished image too far, its pixels become visible. That is usually an advantage for painting because brushes can mix, smudge, and build texture naturally.

Vector drawing and illustration

Vector applications create paths, shapes, fills, and strokes described mathematically. Artwork can be resized from a small icon to a large poster without the edges becoming pixelated. Vector is usually better for logos, icons, typography, diagrams, stickers, flat illustrations, and print assets that must exist at several sizes.

Inkscape is the clear specialist here. Krita has vector layers and vector tools, but it remains primarily a raster painting application and is not a full replacement for a structured vector editor.

Best overall free drawing software: Krita

Krita is the best default recommendation when a reader means serious digital painting, illustration, concept art, comics, or basic 2D animation. It is free software, does not require a subscription, and is designed around the needs of artists rather than primarily around photo correction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why Krita wins

  • A flexible brush engine with more than 100 bundled brushes, brush customization, blending, and stabilizers.
  • Layers, groups, masks, filter layers, file layers, and vector layers.
  • Perspective and drawing assistants for construction and inking.
  • PSD support for exchanging work with other applications.
  • Color management, HDR support, OpenColorIO, and OpenEXR support for demanding workflows.
  • Python scripting and plug-in extensibility.
  • A dedicated animation workspace with a timeline, onion skinning, audio support, frame controls, FPS settings, and export to video or still images.

That combination gives Krita enough depth for long-term work while keeping the focus on drawing. It is especially strong for character art, environment painting, storyboard work, comic pages, and textured brushwork.

The important 2026 version distinction

Krita has parallel 5.3 and 6.0 branches. As of August 10, 2026, Krita 5.3.2.1 is the branch the project describes as suitable for productive work. Krita 6.0.2.1 includes the newer Qt 6 changes but is described as more experimental. A production artist should not automatically choose the branch with the largest version number.

If stability matters, install the productive 5.3.2.1 branch, keep backups of important .kra files, and export interchange copies before switching major branches. Consider 6.0 only if you specifically want that branch and accept its experimental status. See the Krita release announcement for the project’s distinction.

Limitations

Krita has a steeper learning curve than Sketchbook or FireAlpaca. Its native .kra format preserves the most Krita-specific information, but it is less universally portable than PNG, TIFF, PSD, or SVG. PSD exchange is useful, but complex effects, masks, text, and blend behavior may not transfer perfectly between applications. Krita is also desktop-focused: its current download information lists Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android tablet builds, but no official iPad or iPhone support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The program is not lightweight merely because it is free. Krita lists 4 GB of RAM as a minimum and 16 GB as recommended; large canvases, many layers, animation, and high-resolution brushes can require more. A compatible tablet driver and a responsive graphics system matter as much as the application itself.

Best free software by workflow

Best for vector illustration: Inkscape

Inkscape is the right choice for logos, icons, diagrams, typography, stickers, technical illustrations, and artwork that must remain sharp at any size. Its primary format is SVG, and it can import or export formats including AI, EPS, PDF, PS, and PNG.

Its tools include Bezier paths, node editing, shapes, gradients, clipping, boolean operations, text, extensions, and path effects. It is free and open source, cross-platform, and far better suited than a raster painting program to artwork built from clean, editable geometry.

Inkscape is not a natural-media painting program. A pressure-sensitive brush stroke in a vector editor behaves differently from a textured raster brush, and the workflow has its own learning curve. It is also not an animation editor: Inkscape’s documentation does not provide a conventional SVG-animation editing workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Version caution: the project announced Inkscape 1.4.4 on May 6, 2026, but some indexed official pages may still prominently show 1.4.2. Check the official download page on the day you install it rather than relying on an old comparison article.

Best for photo editing plus drawing: GIMP

GIMP is the better choice when drawing is part of a broader image-editing workflow. It provides painting tools, layers, channels, selections, paths, transformations, filters, plug-ins, scripting, and broad file-format support, making it strong for photo retouching, compositing, image conversion, and batch processing.

Its official positioning is image retouching, image composition, and image authoring. That is why it should not be presented as the most natural drawing-first application. GIMP can paint, but Krita generally offers a more coherent experience for pressure-sensitive illustration, brush customization, and frame-by-frame art.

The current stable release is GIMP 3.2.4, released April 17, 2026. Official builds are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. On Linux, the official download page provides these Flatpak commands:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
flatpak install --user https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/org.gimp.GIMP.flatpakref
flatpak run org.gimp.GIMP//stable

It also documents Snap installation:

snap install gimp
snap run gimp

Be careful with macOS downloads: the GIMP team says packages appearing in Apple’s App Store are third-party packages, not official GIMP releases. Use the official download page.

Best for beginners and quick sketching: Sketchbook

Sketchbook has one of the least intimidating interfaces in this group. Its customizable brushes, layers, blend modes, symmetry, rulers, curved rulers, ellipse tools, French curves, predictive stroke, pressure, and tilt support make it appealing to beginners, students, and tablet users who find Krita or GIMP overwhelming.

Sketchbook should not be described as simply free on every platform. It is distributed through the Microsoft Store, Mac App Store, Apple App Store, and Google Play. Mobile editions provide a free core with optional Premium features, while desktop editions are sold through stores. Features and pricing can differ by platform; consult the download documentation and current store listing before committing to a workflow.

Its file behavior also deserves attention. Sketchbook uses layered TIFF as its native format. Only Sketchbook can fully reopen a layered Sketchbook TIFF; PSD preserves layers but not every Sketchbook feature. On iOS, artwork is stored inside the application, so deleting the app can delete that artwork unless it is recovered from a device backup. Android artwork is stored in Sketchbook Gallery folders. Export important work to PSD or TIFF and back it up rather than treating the in-app gallery as your only copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best lightweight desktop option: FireAlpaca

FireAlpaca is a good middle ground between a basic paint program and Krita’s larger interface. It offers customizable brushes, stroke stabilization, post-correction, comic-panel tools, filters, PSD support, and animation features. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and is particularly approachable for beginners making illustrations, line art, or manga-style pages.

VEIKK Drawing Tablet Pen P09 for Studio 16 Pen Display
  • Compatible with only VEIKK Studio 16 Pen Display
  • 16384 Levels of pen pressure sensitivity,290 PPS report rate
  • It is a passive pen, no need to charge
  • Package contain:one P09 pen

The current listed version is FireAlpaca 2.16.0, released June 9, 2026. Its download page lists Windows 10 or later, macOS 12 or later, and Linux distributions including Ubuntu 23.04, Fedora 36, and Debian 12 or later.

FireAlpaca is freeware rather than open source, and its standard version is supported by advertising while a paid SE edition is available. Its terms explicitly permit commercial use of the software and artwork created with it, although redistribution of the software itself is restricted. That makes it one of the more useful lightweight choices for artists who want to sell their work.

Best for manga and webcomics: MediBang Paint

MediBang Paint is built around comic production. It includes panel tools, screentones, fonts, brushes, background materials, and manga-oriented resources, with versions for Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, and Android. Its cloud and account features can help artists move between desktop and mobile.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The trade-off is that its free status is partly freemium. Some functions require a MediBang account, and additional features are available through MediBang Premium. The free tier is not identical across platforms. Cloud synchronization also introduces account and privacy considerations that do not apply in the same way to a purely local desktop application.

MediBang is a sensible choice if comic-specific resources and cross-device access matter more than maximum brush-engine depth. For a self-contained, production-oriented comic workflow with more extensive painting and animation tools, compare it with Krita. Check the license for account-based materials, fonts, cloud assets, and Premium resources before using them in commercial work.

Best browser-based option: Photopea

Photopea is the strongest no-install choice for Chromebook users, shared computers, school environments, and anyone who needs to open or edit PSD files in a browser. It combines raster and vector tools with layers, masks, selections, text, filters, smart objects, common image formats, and some animation-related functions.

Photopea says that opened files are processed locally in the browser and are not uploaded. It can continue working offline after the page has loaded, although browser and device performance determine how comfortable large canvases will be. The free version is ad-supported, and basic use does not require an account.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Local processing does not remove the need for careful saving. Photopea warns that unsaved work can be lost if the browser or tab closes, so save to your device, cloud storage, or another destination regularly. Its privacy documentation also states that work belongs to the user and may be sold without sharing revenue with Photopea. That addresses the application’s own terms, not the separate licenses of fonts, templates, images, or other assets you open in it.

Best simple Windows editor: Paint.NET

Paint.NET is useful for basic raster drawing, screenshots, quick image corrections, simple layers, selections, effects, adjustments, and users who want something closer to an enhanced Paint than to Photoshop. Its interface is familiar and less demanding than Krita or GIMP.

It is Windows-only and is not a replacement for a full digital-painting application. Its brush engine and painting workflow are more limited than Krita’s, so it is best for straightforward edits, diagrams, annotations, and occasional drawing rather than professional illustration.

The official site provides a free download, while store distribution may have a different price. Paint.NET’s license permits personal, academic, commercial, government, nonprofit, and for-profit use. Its current system requirements are worth checking: the documentation specifies a 64-bit Windows system, an AVX2-compatible processor, Direct3D 11 support, and an SSD for supported performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best distraction-free painting tool: MyPaint

MyPaint strips the workflow back to freehand painting. It emphasizes a sparse interface, fullscreen work, customizable brushes, and traditional-media simulation. It is a good fit for artists who want to paint without a crowded editing, layout, or compositing environment.

  • Advanced PenTech 4.0 Technology: The 16384 levels of pressure sensitivity and 2g IAF ensure a fluid and natural drawing experience, while the 3 customized pen side buttons improve your workflow.
  • Improved Color Accuracy: With enhanced color accuracy to Avg. ΔE<1.5, 16.7 million display colors, 99% sRGB coverage, and Rec.709 standard color gamuts, HUION Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) digital art tablet delivers stunning visuals.
  • Rigorous Color Calibration: HUION Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) drawing monitor includes a factory calibration report for added assurance of color consistency.

The major drawback is maintenance. The official site still identifies MyPaint 2.0.1 as the available release, and the project’s release page dates it to May 29, 2020. MyPaint remains a useful mature tool, but it should not be presented as one of the most actively updated all-purpose suites. Choose it for the focused canvas, not for animation, advanced compositing, or a rapidly evolving feature set.

Best traditional-media simulation with a licensing catch: Artweaver Free

Artweaver Free provides realistic brush media, layers, and a relatively simple interface on Windows and macOS. It can appeal to beginners who want a traditional-painting feel without Krita’s larger toolset.

The restriction is decisive: the official download page says the free edition may be used only for noncommercial and academic purposes. The listed Artweaver 8.1.6 release is dated July 5, 2026, but that current version does not change the license limitation. Do not select Artweaver Free for client work, paid commissions, products, or monetized content unless you have the appropriate commercial edition or permission.

Platform and device support

Platform availability is not interchangeable with feature parity. A mobile edition may have different storage, pricing, brush tools, account requirements, and export behavior from the desktop edition with the same name.

Software Windows macOS Linux iPad or iPhone Android Browser
Krita Yes Yes Yes No official iPad support listed Android tablet builds; availability is branch-dependent No
Inkscape Yes Yes Yes No No No
GIMP Yes Yes Yes No official app No official mobile app No
Sketchbook Yes Yes No Yes Yes No

MediBang Paint Yes Yes No desktop Linux version listed Yes Yes No
MyPaint Yes Yes Yes No No No
Paint.NET Yes No No No No No
Photopea Yes through a modern browser, including on many Chromebooks and Linux systems
Artweaver Free Yes Yes No No No No

For iPad and iPhone users, Sketchbook and MediBang Paint are the most direct choices in this list. Krita’s current supported downloads should not be confused with an official iPad version. For Android, check whether the specific application is optimized for a phone, tablet, or both.

Drawing tablets: what actually matters

Software support is only one part of a good tablet experience. You also need a compatible tablet driver, a working connection, correct input settings, and enough hardware for the canvas you intend to use.

  • Pressure: confirms that light and heavy stylus pressure change brush size, opacity, or another chosen setting.
  • Tilt: matters for brushes that simulate pencils, charcoal, or broad pen angles. Sketchbook explicitly advertises pressure and tilt responsiveness.
  • Driver protocol: on Windows, test Windows Ink and WinTab settings when pressure does not work. On macOS, check the tablet manufacturer’s current driver and application permissions.
  • Stabilization: useful for clean inking and line art. Krita and FireAlpaca both provide stabilization-related tools; Sketchbook provides Predictive Stroke.
  • Connectivity: try a direct USB connection if Bluetooth introduces lag or intermittent input.
  • Canvas and memory: a large canvas with dozens of layers can be demanding even when the application itself launches on an older computer.

Krita’s system information lists 4 GB RAM as a minimum and 16 GB as recommended. That is a useful baseline, not a guarantee of smooth performance on large illustrations or animation projects.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Animation support

Animation is a major dividing line between these programs:

  • Krita: the strongest choice here for hand-drawn 2D animation, with a timeline, playback, onion skinning, audio support, frame management, FPS controls, and video or still-image export.
  • FireAlpaca: includes animation features and time-lapse support, making it useful for simple animated work.
  • MediBang Paint: is primarily a comic and illustration application, not a full animation editor.
  • Inkscape: is a vector editor, not a conventional animation editor; do not choose it expecting a complete SVG-animation timeline workflow.
  • GIMP, MyPaint, Paint.NET, and Sketchbook: may support parts of an animation workflow through layers, frames, exports, or workarounds, but they should not be marketed as full animation suites.

What free actually means

The word free hides important differences. Check both the software’s business model and the permissions attached to the edition you install.

Free and open source

Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, and MyPaint are free and open-source projects. Their code and licensing model provide strong long-term ownership and transparency. Open source does not automatically mean the interface will be simple, every plug-in is maintained, or every bundled brush, font, texture, or downloaded asset is licensed for commercial use.

Freeware

FireAlpaca and Paint.NET are examples of freeware. You can use the software without paying a license fee, but the source code is not necessarily open. Their own terms still matter: FireAlpaca explicitly permits commercial use of the software and artwork made with it, and Paint.NET permits commercial and for-profit use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Freemium and ad-supported

MediBang Paint, Sketchbook mobile, and Photopea provide a usable free tier while reserving some tools, cloud functions, Premium features, or ad-free use for payment. Photopea’s free version is ad-supported. Sketchbook’s mobile free core and desktop store editions should be treated as different offerings. MediBang’s account and Premium features vary by platform.

Free only for restricted use

Artweaver Free is the clearest warning: it is free for noncommercial and academic use, not a general-purpose free tool for professional artists. A program can be free to download and still be unsuitable for paid work.

Can you sell artwork made with free software?

Usually, the answer depends on the application’s license and the assets used in the project—not simply on whether the download cost zero.

  • FireAlpaca: its commercial-use terms permit commercial use of the software and artwork created with it.
  • Paint.NET: its license allows commercial, for-profit, nonprofit, government, academic, and personal use.
  • Photopea: its privacy information says your work belongs to you and may be sold without sharing revenue with Photopea.
  • Artweaver Free: limited to noncommercial and academic purposes.
  • MediBang Paint: check the terms for account features, cloud functions, fonts, materials, and Premium resources before making a blanket commercial-use claim.
  • Open-source tools: the application license is separate from the licenses of third-party brushes, fonts, plug-ins, textures, reference images, and stock assets.

For paid work, keep a record of the licenses for every external asset and save an editable native project file alongside the exported delivery files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Files, privacy, and backup safety

Use native files while you work

Save the editable project in the application’s native format: .kra for Krita, .xcf for GIMP, and .svg for Inkscape. These formats preserve more structure than a flattened PNG or JPEG.

Export an interchange copy as appropriate: PSD for layered raster exchange, TIFF for high-quality raster work, PNG for lossless flattened graphics, JPEG for ordinary web images, or SVG and PDF for suitable vector output. Do not assume that an export preserves groups, masks, live text, blend modes, or application-specific effects.

Installed applications and browser tools

Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, FireAlpaca, Paint.NET, MyPaint, and Artweaver can be used locally after installation. They do not require a cloud account simply to paint offline, although update checks, plug-ins, store distribution, or optional services may behave differently.

Photopea processes opened files locally in the browser according to its documentation, but local processing is not the same as automatic backup. Save manually and maintain another copy. MediBang’s cloud features and account synchronization require separate consideration, and Sketchbook’s in-app storage behavior differs between iOS, Android, and desktop.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Specific file-loss risks

  • Sketchbook on iOS: deleting the application can delete artwork stored inside it unless the work is included in a device backup or exported elsewhere.
  • Photopea: closing the browser or tab before saving can lose unsaved work.
  • PSD exchange: layers may survive, but application-specific text, masks, effects, and blend behavior may not.
  • Cloud galleries: synchronization is not a substitute for an independent backup.

How to choose in five minutes

  1. Painting characters, environments, or textured illustrations? Choose Krita. Use the productive 5.3 branch if stability is more important than testing the newer 6.0 branch.
  2. Creating logos, icons, diagrams, or scalable print art? Choose Inkscape.
  3. Editing photos and compositing images, with occasional drawing? Choose GIMP.
  4. Want the least intimidating sketchbook on a phone or tablet? Start with Sketchbook, but check the platform’s free and Premium features.
  5. Want a lighter desktop program for commercial illustration or comics? Try FireAlpaca.
  6. Making manga or webcomics and moving between mobile and desktop? Consider MediBang Paint; review account, cloud, and Premium conditions first.
  7. Using a Chromebook or unable to install software? Use Photopea, and save manually throughout the session.
  8. Using Windows for quick edits and simple layers? Choose Paint.NET.
  9. Want only a quiet canvas and a customizable painting brush? Try MyPaint, accepting that its stable release is old.
  10. Need traditional-media simulation for school or personal work? Artweaver Free may fit, but not if the work is commercial.

Installation and setup checklist

  1. Download from the developer: use the official pages linked in this article rather than generic download portals. This is especially important for GIMP, whose team warns that Apple App Store packages are third-party versions.
  2. Check the edition: confirm whether you are installing a free desktop build, a mobile free tier, a Premium version, a store edition, or a noncommercial edition.
  3. Install the tablet driver: update the manufacturer’s driver, then test pressure and tilt in a new document.
  4. Set up stabilization: use a modest amount for natural strokes and increase it for clean inking. Excessive stabilization can make the cursor feel delayed.
  5. Create a sensible canvas: choose the final output size and resolution before painting when possible. Large dimensions and many layers increase memory use.
  6. Save the native project: do not rely on PNG or JPEG as your only file.
  7. Export a backup: save a PSD, TIFF, SVG, PNG, or other suitable interchange copy, then back it up to a separate drive or service.
  8. Audit assets: verify licenses for brushes, fonts, textures, templates, reference images, and cloud materials separately from the application license.

What we deliberately left out

Microsoft Paint 3D is not a current recommendation. Microsoft deprecated it in August 2024 and removed it from the Microsoft Store on November 4, 2024. Existing installations may continue to work, but it is no longer an appropriate current download choice. A comparison page that still lists Paint 3D as a current option is out of date; see Microsoft’s deprecated-features list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Krita completely free?

Krita is free and open-source software with no subscription requirement. Optional donations, store distribution, and the availability of Android builds do not change the fact that the desktop program can be obtained and used without a recurring fee. Choose the productive 5.3.2.1 branch for stability-focused work rather than assuming the newer 6.0.2.1 branch is automatically the best choice.

What is the best free drawing app for a Chromebook?

Photopea is the strongest option in this list because it runs in a browser and supports layers, masks, raster and vector tools, PSD files, and text. Its files are processed locally according to Photopea’s documentation, but save manually: closing the browser before saving can lose unsaved work.

Can I use free drawing software for commercial artwork?

Often, but check the specific license. FireAlpaca and Paint.NET explicitly permit commercial use, and Photopea says the user owns and may sell their work. Artweaver Free is restricted to noncommercial and academic use. For any application, check the licenses of third-party brushes, fonts, textures, templates, and cloud materials separately.

Which free drawing software works best with a graphics tablet?

Krita is the strongest general recommendation for a pressure-sensitive desktop tablet, while Sketchbook is especially approachable and explicitly supports pressure and tilt. Install the tablet manufacturer’s driver, test Windows Ink or WinTab settings on Windows when necessary, and remember that tablet hardware and canvas size affect the experience as much as software support.

Is there a free iPad version of Krita or GIMP?

The current information in this guide does not list an official iPad version of Krita or GIMP. iPad users should look first at Sketchbook or MediBang Paint, both of which provide iPad versions, and should verify current App Store features and pricing before relying on a mobile workflow.

The Bottom Line

Choose Krita if you want one serious free painting application to grow into. Choose Inkscape for vector artwork, GIMP for photo editing and compositing, Sketchbook for the simplest tablet sketching experience, FireAlpaca for lightweight commercial-use desktop drawing, MediBang Paint for manga resources and cross-device comics, Photopea when you need a browser, Paint.NET for basic Windows editing, and MyPaint for an uncluttered painting canvas. The best choice is the one whose file model, license, platform, and workflow fit the work you actually intend to make.
