Keep a record of fabric yardage
One reader attaches a tag to fabric with a mini binder clip and records the yardage, where the fabric was purchased, its collection name, and the project it is intended for. As fabric is used, the reader updates the remaining yardage. This gives a small piece of fabric its own useful record without relying on memory.

Check light, medium, and dark values
A reader suggests making a black-and-white copy of a quilt pattern to preview the placement of light, medium, and dark fabrics before shopping. Removing color can make differences in value easier to see when choosing fabrics for a design.
Preview a secondary pattern
To see the smaller design that may appear where four identical blocks meet without sashing, the collection describes folding each corner of a block toward its center. This is a quick way to consider how a block may look in a larger arrangement.

Contain loose threads and fabric scraps
