Adobe Photoshop for Windows 11 is not free forever. Adobe offers the full desktop Photoshop application as a seven-day free trial, but you must provide an Adobe account and billing information. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the selected plan converts to a paid Creative Cloud membership.
Start the official Photoshop trial at Adobe. Do not download a “cracked,” “preactivated,” portable, or serial-key version: it is unauthorized and may expose your PC and accounts to malware.
Is Photoshop free for Windows 11?
There is no official permanent-free version of the full Photoshop desktop application for Windows 11. The legitimate free option is Adobe’s seven-day trial, which includes the full desktop app and current features, including generative-AI tools such as Generative Fill and Generative Expand, according to Adobe’s trial page.

“Free Photoshop” listings elsewhere may instead refer to Adobe Express, a limited web or mobile tool, Photoshop Elements, an old unauthorized installer, or a pirated copy. None is the same as receiving the full Photoshop desktop application free forever.

How to download Photoshop safely on Windows 11
- Open Adobe’s official Photoshop free-trial page.
- Select Start free trial and choose the Photoshop plan.
- Sign in with an Adobe ID, or create an account.
- Enter the requested billing information. Checkout fields can vary by country, account, and promotion, but readers should expect payment details for the full Photoshop trial.
- Download and install the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application if Adobe prompts you to do so.
- Open Creative Cloud, find Photoshop, and select Install.
- Launch Photoshop from the Windows Start menu or Creative Cloud.
If Creative Cloud is not already installed, use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud download page, not a third-party mirror.
Important: the trial can become a paid subscription
Set a reminder for the sixth day. Adobe’s Photoshop trial is scheduled to continue as the paid membership you selected unless you cancel it before the seven-day trial ends.

Uninstalling Photoshop does not cancel billing. Removing Creative Cloud does not cancel billing either. To cancel, sign in to Adobe Account, open Plans, choose Manage plans, and select Cancel your plan. Complete the cancellation flow and save the confirmation email or screen.
Adobe also states that cancellation within an additional 14-day period may qualify for a full refund under its stated plan terms. Refund and cancellation conditions can vary by plan, region, and account, so check the terms shown during checkout and in your Adobe account.

Creative Cloud Pro may make sense if you also need several Adobe applications, such as Illustrator, Premiere, Acrobat Pro, or other Creative Cloud services. For Photoshop alone, compare the plan details carefully before paying for the larger bundle. Use Adobe’s official plans page for current regional pricing.
Students and teachers may qualify for discounted Creative Cloud plans, but student status does not make Photoshop permanently free. Check Adobe’s education pricing page and verify the current eligibility rules.
Does Photoshop work on Windows 11?
Photoshop is available for Windows, including supported Windows 11 systems. However, Windows 11 compatibility is not a guarantee that Photoshop will run well on every Windows 11 computer. Adobe’s requirements can change, and installation depends on factors such as the Windows edition, 64-bit architecture, processor, RAM, graphics support, display, free storage, drivers, internet access, and account requirements.
Check Adobe’s live Photoshop system requirements before starting the download, especially on an older PC or one with integrated graphics.

Photoshop
The full Photoshop product is Adobe’s professional editing application, with desktop, web, and mobile access under applicable plans. It is the appropriate choice for advanced retouching, compositing, complex layers, professional PSD workflows, plug-ins, and Photoshop-specific compatibility. It is subscription-based rather than a current one-time purchase.

Photoshop Elements
Photoshop Elements is a simpler consumer editor with guided edits, templates, organization features, and AI-assisted tools. Adobe currently advertises a seven-day full-featured trial with no credit card required on its Elements pages.
Elements 2026 is a separate product, not free full Photoshop. Adobe’s page currently lists it at US$99.99 with a non-renewing three-year term license. Adobe Express
Adobe Express is aimed at quick, browser- and mobile-oriented projects such as social posts, flyers, resizing, collages, templates, and simple graphics. Adobe promotes a free plan with templates, fonts, images, and creation tools. Express is not a full replacement for Photoshop’s advanced desktop layers, precision retouching, professional color workflows, or plug-in ecosystem.

Paint.NET
Paint.NET is a Windows-focused choice for cropping, resizing, adjustments, layers, effects, and quick image work. It is easier to approach than many professional editors, but it does not offer the full Photoshop toolset.
Photopea
Photopea runs in a browser and provides a Photoshop-like workflow for many common edits and file formats. It can be useful on a computer where software cannot be installed. Do not upload confidential or sensitive images unless you understand the service’s privacy and storage terms.

Krita
Krita is a free, open-source application focused primarily on digital painting and illustration. It is a strong choice for brushes, drawing, creative artwork, and animation, but it is not designed as a one-to-one replacement for every Photoshop photo workflow.
Which option should you choose?
- You specifically need Photoshop: Use Adobe’s official seven-day trial, then cancel before the deadline if you do not want the subscription.
- You need advanced professional PSD production: Photoshop is the safest fit for Photoshop-specific layers, smart objects, effects, fonts, color profiles, and plug-ins.
- You want a simpler paid consumer editor: Consider Photoshop Elements if guided tools suit you and a three-year term is acceptable.
- You only crop, resize, or make basic corrections: Try Paint.NET, Adobe Express, Photopea, or the Windows Photos editor instead of starting a Photoshop subscription.
- You want free desktop compositing: Try GIMP.
- You mainly paint or draw: Try Krita.
Alternatives may open or export PSD files imperfectly. Smart objects, adjustment layers, masks, layer effects, fonts, color profiles, and plug-ins may not translate exactly. Test a complete copy of your actual workflow before switching if you exchange production files with Photoshop users.
Why you should avoid cracked Photoshop downloads
A site offering “Photoshop CS6 free,” a crack, serial number, portable build, or preactivated installer is not an official Adobe download route. Such packages can contain malware, credential stealers, ransomware, unwanted browser software, or modifications that disable security protections. They may also stop working, lack updates and support, and violate copyright or software-license law.
A “no virus” label on a download page is not reliable proof that an installer is safe. Download Photoshop from Adobe, or download an alternative from its official publisher. Never use an unofficial installer merely because Adobe’s trial has ended.
Troubleshooting the official download
The download button does nothing
- Allow pop-ups and downloads for Adobe’s site.
- Try a current version of Edge, Chrome, or Firefox.
- Sign in to your Adobe account first.
- Use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud installer.
- Check whether antivirus or Windows Security quarantined the installer.
- Confirm that the PC has enough free storage and meets Adobe’s requirements.
Do not use a third-party mirror as a workaround.
Photoshop will not install
Common causes include an unsupported Windows configuration, insufficient storage, an outdated graphics driver, school or workplace restrictions, a damaged Creative Cloud installation, network or proxy rules, firewall blocks, and insufficient permissions. Check Adobe’s system requirements, download and installation support, and Photoshop help rather than applying a universal fix.
You were charged after the trial
First check Adobe Account → Plans to identify the active plan. If you intended to stop the trial, use Manage plans → Cancel your plan, complete every confirmation step, and retain the confirmation. Review Adobe’s current refund terms, including the stated additional 14-day period where applicable. Uninstalling the application is not a cancellation.
