Verdict: Picsart AI Background is a convenient choice for creators and small businesses that want to remove a photo’s background, generate a replacement scene, and continue designing in the same editor. It is not a standalone app: the feature sits inside Picsart’s web and mobile editing workflow.

The important distinction is that background removal and background generation are separate operations. Picsart first creates a subject cutout, then lets you place that cutout on a conventional or AI-generated background. How to replace a background with Picsart AI
On mobile
- Open the Picsart app and tap the plus button, or choose a photo to edit.
- Open Remove BG.
- After Picsart isolates the subject, tap the image or background option.

Inspect the result closely around:
- Hair and fur
- Thin straps, wires, branches, and bicycle spokes

Problems specific to generated backgrounds
A generated scene can look attractive while still being unsuitable for the intended image. Check whether:
- The light direction agrees with the subject.
- The floor, wall, horizon, or table has believable perspective.
- The subject is scaled correctly for the scene.
- A contact shadow keeps the subject from appearing to float.
- New objects distract from the product or person.
- Signs, labels, logos, and product text remain accurate.
- The setting creates a misleading commercial impression.
For product listings, inspect the result particularly carefully. A background should support the product without hiding, distorting, or visually changing what is being sold. Generate several variations rather than accepting the first attractive result.
Prompting tips for more believable scenes
Vague prompts such as “make it look better” give the system little direction. A more useful prompt describes the:
- Setting: a bright kitchen, neutral studio, outdoor café, or clean retail shelf.
- Surface: white tabletop, pale concrete, wood, marble, or seamless paper.
- Lighting: soft studio light, warm window light, or overcast daylight.

For example, a product prompt might specify: “Realistic product photography on a warm white stone surface, eye-level camera, soft studio lighting from the left, minimal neutral background, natural contact shadow.” This does not guarantee a correct result, but it gives the generation process constraints that are relevant to compositing.

Editing and export options
Depending on the workflow and plan, Picsart lets users:
- Leave the subject on transparency.
- Apply white, black, pastel, gradient, or blurred backgrounds.
- Use a supplied image or stock image.
- Generate a scene from a prompt.
- Continue editing with templates, text, retouching, collage, and other tools.
- Export a transparent result as a PNG.
Picsart markets high-resolution exports and says that background removal creates a separate editable layer without altering the original image. Those are Picsart’s claims, not independent measurements of export quality. For a transparent cutout, confirm that PNG is selected; formats such as JPEG cannot preserve transparency.

The answer is not simply “yes.” Picsart promotes its background remover as available to try, but its public background-remover page currently describes a seven-day subscription trial. Trial eligibility, export restrictions, premium features, and the offer shown at checkout can vary by country, platform, account, and promotion.
Do not assume that unlimited AI background generation is free. Before starting a trial, check:
- The trial duration
- The renewal date
- The price after the trial
- Whether billing occurs through the web, Apple, or Google
- What cancellation method applies
- Whether the specific AI feature or export requires a paid plan
The official background-remover page and the subscription screen shown to your account are more reliable than an old review.

- Monthly subscription credits expire at the end of the billing cycle according to Picsart’s pricing FAQ.
- Add-on credits can be purchased.
- Picsart says add-on credits do not expire and can roll over.

Picsart Pro makes the most sense when background removal is one part of a broader creative workflow. You also get access to templates, premium stock content, retouching, design tools, and other AI features. That breadth can eliminate the need to move a cutout into another editor.
A dedicated service may be better when your work is almost entirely cutouts. Specialist tools generally offer a simpler interface and may provide more predictable batch or API workflows for large product catalogs. The relevant comparison is not only cutout quality; it is also per-image cost, automation, consistency, file handling, and support.
For hundreds or thousands of standardized images, investigate a dedicated service such as remove.bg or a commerce-oriented tool such as Photoroom. Their pricing and capabilities should be checked separately for your volume and region rather than assumed from Picsart’s consumer subscription.
Picsart versus professional editing software
Photoshop or another professional editor remains the better direction when you need manual paths, channels, detailed masks, perspective correction, color-managed retouching, or repeatable work on difficult edges. It is more demanding, but that complexity provides control that an automated cutout workflow cannot always replace.

- Whether images may be used to improve models

Do not assume that every stock element or generated result is automatically cleared for every commercial purpose. Official identification photos and other regulated imagery also deserve a separate review; an AI-generated background may be visually unsuitable even when the cutout itself is technically clean.
API and automated workflows
Picsart also offers business APIs and SDKs. The Background Removal API is intended for automated cutouts, while Smart Background generates a scene from text. These are distinct capabilities, just as they are in the consumer editor.
