The AllPeopleQuilt Pinwheel Pot Holder is a quilted, pieced-fabric project that finishes at 10½ inches square, with a 10-inch finished pinwheel block. It combines cotton prints with cotton batting and a separate insulated-batting layer. This guide covers that quilted pattern—not the separate crochet pattern with the same name.

A separate crochet pattern by Carolyn Christmas was originally published in November 1990 and uses worsted-weight yarn and a size H hook. Its construction is different from the pieced-fabric project described here. View the Ravelry crochet-pattern listing.
Materials and cut sizes
The quilted pattern specifies cotton print fabric for the pinwheel block, backing, hanging loop, and binding. Its batting stack has two layers: one 10½-inch square of cotton batting and one 10½-inch square of insulated batting; Insul-Bright is given as an example, not as the only acceptable brand.

For the specified insulated layer, search for Insul-Bright insulated batting. The pattern does not establish that one insulation brand performs better than another.

How the pinwheel block is assembled
The block is made from four pieced units. Each unit combines a small gray triangle, a small red triangle, and a large aqua triangle; the four units are trimmed to 5½ inches square, including seam allowances, then joined into the pinwheel.

- Cut the gray and red 6¼-inch squares twice diagonally. Cut each aqua 6-inch square in half diagonally to create four large triangles.
- Pair a small gray triangle with a small red triangle, then add a large aqua triangle to form a unit.
- Make four units and trim each to 5½ inches square, including seam allowances.
- Sew the four units into two pairs, then join the pairs to make the pinwheel block.
Layer, quilt and bind the pot holder
- Place the 10½-inch backing square face down. Layer the insulated batting and cotton batting over it, then place the pinwheel block face up.
- Baste the layers and quilt as desired.
- Fold and stitch the 2-by-5-inch strip to form the hanging loop. Position its raw edges at the back edge of the quilted unit.
- Bind the unit, catching the loop’s raw edges in the binding seam.
What the pattern does—and does not—say about heat protection
The pattern specifies an insulated batting layer but does not provide a tested temperature rating, certification, maximum safe temperature, or comparative performance data. Its construction directions therefore should not be read as a guarantee against burns.
