What the pattern makes
The finished quilt measures 48-1/2 × 67 inches, and its finished blocks are 8 inches square. The panel supplies the central image; fabric borders build the rest of the quilt around it.
The pattern’s materials list specifies a 23-1/2 × 42-inch preprinted panel. Its designer also notes that the original quilt used a 32-1/2 × 42-inch panel, with inner borders added at the sides to make the panel 32-1/2 inches wide, followed by matching-width borders at the top and bottom. Because those stated panel dimensions differ, measure your own panel and check its usable image area against the pattern’s center dimensions before cutting fabric.

Cutting list
- Cut 24 gold or orange squares and 24 green or grey squares, each 4-7/8 inches square. Cut each square diagonally to make triangles for the Flying Geese units.
- Cut 10 rectangles at 4 × 8-1/2 inches, 16 at 3-1/4 × 8-1/2 inches, and 12 at 2-1/2 × 8-1/2 inches.
- From dark rust fabric, cut two 5 × 42-inch strips and two 5 × 32-1/2-inch strips for the inner borders.
- Cut seven 2-1/2 × 42-inch dark rust strips for binding.
How the quilt is assembled
- Make the Flying Geese units. Pair the gold or orange triangles with the green or grey triangles to make triangle-squares, then join the units into 12 Flying Geese blocks.
- Frame the panel. Add the 5-inch dark rust strips to the panel sides, then add the shorter rust strips at the top and bottom. The pattern gives the resulting center as 32-1/2 × 51 inches.
- Build the side borders. Join the pieced rectangles to form the outer borders along the sides of the framed center.
- Add the top and bottom borders. Place six Flying Geese blocks in each border, making 12 blocks across both ends.
- Quilt and bind. Layer the quilt top with 55 × 73-inch batting and backing, baste the layers, quilt as desired, and bind with the dark rust print.
Choosing a substitute panel
The original Pumpkin Glen collection by Kim Schaefer for Andover is the featured fabric, but the pattern information does not establish that it remains available. If you choose another pumpkin panel, compare its usable width and height, the placement of the image after any trimming, and whether it can be framed to the pattern’s stated center measurements. A retailer lists a pumpkin-themed panel at approximately 24 × 43 inches, but that size has not been validated for this pattern; check the actual panel before adapting the cuts.
