A collection of art and antiques from a Dalkeith home on Jutland Parade was scheduled for two online auctions on November 26 and December 3, 2023. PerthNow reported that the late owners’ children had commissioned Donelly Auctions to sell the contents, including works by Salvador Dalí, Hans Heysen and Pro Hart. The published estimates were forecasts, not confirmed sale prices, and available information does not establish the auction’s final results.

What was the Jutland Parade collection?

In a report published November 24, 2023, Sarah Makse of PerthNow described the contents of an opulent Dalkeith home being offered after years in storage. The children of the late owners commissioned Donelly Auctions director Mat Donelly to sell the collection. The family had moved to London in 2014 after the mother’s death, and the contents had remained stored since then.

Donelly said that when he unpacked the storage locker in 2023, he found art and other objects that had been kept wrapped. The report did not name the former owners, so their identities cannot be confirmed from it.

Which artworks were listed for sale?

Dalí sculptures

The preview named two Salvador Dalí sculptures: Dance of Time II and The Space Elephant. PerthNow described The Space Elephant as one of 350 recreations worldwide. Donelly expected it to fetch more than $50,000; that was his pre-sale estimate, not a reported result.

Australian artists

The collection included a signed 1932 Hans Heysen watercolour, which PerthNow described as valued at around $50,000 without identifying who supplied that valuation. Other named artists were Robert Dickerson, Janet Cumbrae-Stewart and Elizabeth Durack. Seven works by Pro Hart were also included, among them the original oil painting Dragonfly.

The Chagall work was retained

The family kept a Marc Chagall original rather than including it in the Perth sale. PerthNow characterized its value as half a million dollars; the report does not establish that as a verified appraisal or auction price.

What else was in the estate sale?

Beyond the named artworks, the report listed Argyle pink diamonds, gold and diamond-encrusted jewellery, bronze, fine china, rugs and gold-trimmed furniture. These categories describe the advertised collection; they do not establish which objects ultimately sold or where they went.

When were the auctions, and what were the estimates?

Donelly Auctions planned two online auctions, on Sunday, November 26 and Sunday, December 3, 2023. PerthNow reported Donelly’s estimate that the collection could sell for more than $1 million. He also said, “I’m confident the market will soak this up easily in Perth.” Both remarks expressed pre-sale expectations.

Are the final sale prices known?

The PerthNow preview gives scheduled dates and pre-sale expectations, but it does not report the final results. Donelly Auctions’ official website describes services including antiques, on-site house clearances, estates and collections, and points users to past auctions to research comparable items. That general information does not verify the outcome of this particular 2023 sale.
