Red, White, and Blue Bricks is a patchwork quilt pattern for a 68 × 92 1/2-inch twin-size quilt with a 14-inch drop. It uses 24 fat quarters cut into rectangles, arranged in 15 offset rows, then trimmed, quilted and bound. The instructions below follow the pattern published by American Patchwork & Quilting, updated May 13, 2026.

Materials for the quilt
The pattern assumes 42 inches of usable fabric width and includes 1/4-inch seam allowances. Gather:

- 24 fat quarters of assorted red, white and blue prints
- 3/4 yard of dark red print for binding
- 5 5/8 yards of backing fabric
- Batting measuring 76 × 101 inches
You will also need a long acrylic ruler and rotary cutter for trimming the assembled quilt top.

Cut the rectangles
From each fat quarter, cut eight rectangles measuring 5 × 8 1/2 inches. That produces 192 rectangles from 24 fat quarters; the quilt uses 180.
Check print direction before cutting. Prints that must be cut lengthwise to keep their motifs upright yield six rectangles per fat quarter rather than eight. Account for that reduced yield when choosing fabrics; the total number needed for the top is 180.

Arrange and sew the rows
Plan the layout
Lay the rectangles on a design wall or clean floor and arrange the colors and prints before sewing. The pattern uses 12 rectangles in each row and 15 rows in all. Successive rows are offset to create the brick pattern.

Join each row
Sew 12 rectangles together along their long edges to make a row measuring 5 × 96 1/2 inches, including seam allowances. Assemble all 15 rows. Use the pattern’s quilt assembly diagram to position them: align the centerline of the first rectangle in one row with the short edge of the next row, then continue the same offset through the layout.

Trim and finish the quilt
- Use the long acrylic ruler and rotary cutter to trim the assembled top along the marked lines in the quilt assembly diagram. The trimmed top measures 68 × 92 1/2 inches, including seam allowances.
- Layer the quilt top, batting and backing, then baste the layers together.
- Quilt as desired.
- Bind the edges with strips cut from the dark red print.
