“Scrappy Mousepad” is a quilting project for making a removable fabric insert to sit beneath the protective cover of an acrylic scrapbooking mouse pad holder. The pattern, designed by Roseann Meehan Kermes and published by AllPeopleQuilt on June 14, 2013, specifies a 7 × 8¼-inch finished insert for a 7½ × 8½-inch holder. If you use a different holder, check its dimensions and cover construction before cutting fabric.

What the project makes
The finished piece is a layered, personalized fabric panel—not a complete mouse pad. It slides under the clear protective cover of the specified acrylic holder, so the fabric can be displayed while the cover protects it. The pattern gives the insert’s finished size as 7 × 8¼ inches and the holder size as 7½ × 8½ inches.

Materials and tools
- Assorted bright-print fabric scraps and a yellow-print scrap
- Lightweight fusible web, in a 7½ × 8¾-inch rectangle
- 20 inches of medium-wide pink rickrack
- Pink and yellow embroidery floss
- A 3½ × 5-inch photograph and assorted scrapbooking stickers
- A 7½ × 8½-inch acrylic scrapbooking mouse pad holder
- Lightweight cardstock or heavy paper for the insert backing
- Deckle-edge scissors and a hole punch
- Optional acid-free photo mounting strip, stamping ink, or marker
How the insert is assembled
The pattern builds a decorated fabric front, backs it with cardstock or heavy paper, then trims and stitches the layers into the finished insert. Follow the original pattern for exact fabric cutting dimensions and the full construction sequence.

- Piece the fabric front. Join two bright-print rectangles to form the center background, then piece narrow strips into the two side sections.
- Add decoration. Apply appliqué flowers and decorative stitching. Prepare sticker tags and sew them onto the insert; use the photograph and optional mounting strip as directed by the pattern.
- Fuse and back the panel. Apply the fusible web to the front and fuse the fabric to lightweight cardstock or heavy paper.
- Trim and stitch. Trim the layered piece to 7 × 8¼ inches, round the corners, and machine-stitch close to the edges through all layers.
- Fit it into the holder. Slide the completed insert beneath the holder’s protective cover.
Check fit before making a substitute
The original pattern names one holder specification and does not report testing with alternatives. If yours differs, compare its usable opening and cover arrangement with the 7 × 8¼-inch insert before proceeding. A holder’s outside dimensions alone may not confirm that the finished panel will slide beneath its cover. The source does not establish current availability of the specified holder, so check a current listing for dimensions and construction.
