Block 2 of the Sew Easy Sampler uses triangles with bias edges, which can stretch while you sew. The official project page links to the separate Block 2 instructions for its exact cutting quantities and construction order; use that pattern for the steps, and follow the handling tips below to keep the bias seams stable.
What Block 2 involves
Designed by Sandra Clemons, Sew Easy Sampler is a four-block quilt. Each block finishes at 16 inches square, and the completed quilt measures 58½ inches square. The project page identifies Block 2 as the second block and links to its own instructions: official Sew Easy Sampler project page.

The block-specific technique is sewing triangles with bias edges together. A bias edge can stretch more readily than a straight-grain edge, so careful handling and pinning help keep the pieces aligned. The AllPeopleQuilt editors advise: “Since bias seams stretch, use pins to hold things in place while sewing.”
How to sew the bias seams without distorting them
- Handle pieces as little as possible. Repeatedly lifting, repositioning, or tugging cut triangles can stretch their bias edges.
- Pin the seam. Align the pieces and use pins to hold the bias edges together as you sew.
- Begin at the 90-degree angle. Start sewing at the triangles’ right-angle end rather than at the point.
- Lift and set down the iron. Press by lifting and lowering the iron instead of dragging it across the fabric, which can pull the bias out of shape.
These techniques address the block’s bias-edge challenge; follow the official pattern for the specific assembly sequence and pressing instructions.

Materials for the full quilt
The official materials list is for the entire four-block quilt, not Block 2 alone. It specifies:
- 1⅓ yards solid gray for blocks and sashing
- 1¼ yards solid yellow for blocks and the inner border
- 2 yards solid dark teal for blocks, the outer border, and binding
- ¼ yard each of solid lime green, light pink, light teal, and dark pink for blocks
- 3¾ yards backing fabric
- 67-inch-square batting
The yardage assumes 42 inches of usable fabric width, and the measurements include ¼-inch seam allowances. AllPeopleQuilt recommends a high-contrast background so the block designs stand out. The listed quantities should not be treated as Block 2 cutting amounts.
