The Stacked Lanterns Quilt is a wall quilt that finishes at 36 × 43½ inches. Laura Boehnke’s design uses 12 Courthouse Steps-style Log Cabin blocks, arranged in four rows, with blue centers and inner border framing a multicolor floral outer border. The pattern is inspired by Pat Sloan’s “String of Lanterns”; it is a separate design credited to Boehnke.

Finished size and block layout
The completed wall quilt measures 36 × 43½ inches. Its 12 blocks finish at 7½ inches square and are sewn into four horizontal rows. A 44 × 52-inch batting piece is the specified supply size, not the finished quilt size.
The blocks are Log Cabin blocks assembled in a Courthouse Steps style. A 2-inch blue teardrop-print square forms each center. Strips are added to opposite sides in sequence, building the block outward. The pattern calls for 1½-inch-wide strips in lengths of 2, 4, 6 and 8 inches, alongside the 2-inch center squares.
Fabric and supplies

The bold floral outer border supplies the palette for the center blocks. Keep the aqua/green, blue/dark turquoise and purple prints distinct enough to read as neighboring color groups, while using the specified blue teardrop print consistently for the centers and inner border.

Before sewing the blocks together, arrange them in their planned positions on a design wall or another layout surface. The intended secondary pattern depends on how adjacent blocks and their strip sets meet; the layout lets you check those pairings before joining the blocks into rows.
