The Stacked Rectangles Quilt finishes at 62 × 79 inches. Its center is pieced from alternating rows of 5 × 10-inch rectangles, with 44 ten-inch precut squares as one fabric option. The pattern is an AllPeopleQuilt project, updated May 1, 2026, and its downloadable instructions identify it as a project from Quilts and More Summer 2011.
Fabric and supplies for the Stacked Rectangles Quilt
American Patchwork & Quilting Editors specify the following quantities for 44- to 45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabric. The pattern includes quarter-inch seam allowances.

The precut-square and yardage amounts are alternatives for the center, not different size options. Check a precut bundle’s contents: the stated option is 44 squares, and a bundle may not provide the required number or the mix of prints on its own. The pattern does not name a required brand or compare costs.

The pattern’s cutting list calls for 72 assorted rectangles measuring 5 × 10 inches and 10 assorted rectangles measuring 5 × 5 1/4 inches. Cut the border and binding strips lengthwise, parallel to the selvages:

How the stacked rectangle rows fit together
The center is 50 × 67 inches, including seam allowances. It is built from 11 horizontal rows that alternate between two layouts:

Sew pieces right sides together unless the instructions say otherwise. Alternate A and B rows as you assemble the center, and press each row’s seams in one direction. Consult the publisher’s pattern diagrams for the exact arrangement and assembly order.

Add borders and finish the quilt
- Attach the two 6 1/2 × 67-inch border strips to the sides of the pieced center; press seams toward the border.
- Attach the two 6 1/2 × 62-inch strips to the top and bottom, following the pattern’s assembly diagrams.
- Layer the quilt top with the 70 × 87-inch batting and backing, then baste the layers together.
- Quilt as desired. The pattern leaves the quilting design to the maker.
- Bind the quilt using the five 2 1/2 × 62-inch strips, following the publisher’s instructions.
