What the pattern makes
Each place mat has a pieced star block in the center, framed with aqua metallic print, with floral rectangles at the sides. The publisher describes the layout as a visual guide for where to place plates and silverware. The pattern was published November 20, 2020, and is also included in American Patchwork & Quilting’s free place mat patterns roundup, updated November 14, 2025.
The finished size is 12-1/2 × 19-1/2 inches. Measurements include 1/4-inch seam allowances.

Fabric and batting for one place mat
The published yardages and cutting instructions assume 42 inches of usable fabric width. The quantities below are the pattern’s specifications; they are not recalculated for other fabric widths.

How the star and place mat top are assembled
- Use pink and teal batik pieces to make triangle-square units, following the pattern’s cutting and piecing instructions.
- Join those units into hourglass units, then assemble them with teal squares and a floral square to make the central block.
- Frame the block with aqua metallic strips and attach the floral rectangles to complete the top.
- Layer the finished top with batting and backing, baste the layers, quilt as desired, and bind the edges.
Fabric collection and design credits
The project fabrics are identified as Moody Blooms by Laura Muir of Create Joy Project for Moda Fabrics. The design was inspired by “Twists & Turns” by Tammy Vonderschmitt, and Diane Tomlinson is credited as quilt tester. The pattern names a collection, but its current availability is not established on the project page.
