Choose assorted prints that include aqua, red, green, yellow and orange. The pattern combines these with white centers and borders. It also needs batting, backing and thread suitable for piecing and quilting. The listed yardages assume 42 inches of usable fabric width, so check the usable width of your fabric before cutting.
A jelly roll or other precut bundle may work if its strips match the required 2½-inch width and provide enough usable length and fabric for the pieces, including the binding. The pattern specifies eighteen 2½ × 42-inch strips; retail bundles can differ in length and contents, so compare the bundle with the cutting list rather than assuming every jelly roll is sufficient. The publisher also features the runner among projects using precut 2½-inch strips in its stash-project roundup.

What to cut
The pattern uses ¼-inch seam allowances and directs sewing right sides together unless noted otherwise. Its print cutting list calls for:
- Six rectangles each measuring 2½ × 16 inches, 2½ × 12 inches, 2½ × 10 inches, 2½ × 8 inches and 2½ × 6 inches.
- Six rectangles measuring 2 × 2½ inches.
- Enough 2½ × 6-inch print pieces to make 135 inches of binding strip in total.
From the solid white fabric, cut two 2 × 41-inch borders, two 2 × 19-inch borders and three 2 × 4-inch rectangles. Follow the linked pattern for the complete cutting and assembly instructions.
