Mandurah artist Tahnee Kelland’s first fashion release, the BANG BANG T-shirt, sold thousands after its June 2024 launch, according to a profile published by the Mandurah Times on 2 May 2025. Two later designs, CARE WAY LESS and BURN IT ALL DOWN, also sold out soon after release, the report said. It did not publish exact sales totals or revenue.
From retail work to an online art business
Kelland had spent 17 years working in retail when the store where she worked closed and she was made redundant. In the Mandurah Times profile, she described the payout as the chance to start her own business: “I was made redundant when the store I was working in closed down, and that payout gave me the opportunity to finally start my own business.”

About a decade before the profile, she began working with local printmaker Ross de Hoog to reproduce her original art as prints. Rather than relying on local shop traffic, she chose to focus on online sales. She said she had watched brick-and-mortar stores struggle and believed online selling could reach a global audience. “The world had moved online, so that’s where I decided to focus all my energy,” she told the paper.
The profile said Kelland’s prints regularly shipped to customers in the United States, New Zealand, Mexico, France, Italy and Switzerland. That online art business came before her move into apparel.

How BANG BANG became her first released T-shirt
Kelland said she had started designing T-shirts about four years before the May 2025 profile, but waited to release one until she had a design she felt proud of. BANG BANG launched in June 2024. According to the report, customers were buying hundreds while she had only a drawing of the design and had not yet produced the shirts.
The profile reported that BANG BANG had sold thousands by May 2025. It gave no precise unit count, revenue figure or independently audited sales measure, so “thousands” is the reported scale rather than a verified total. CARE WAY LESS and BURN IT ALL DOWN followed; the story said both sold out soon after release, without stating their launch dates or quantities.

What the BANG BANG design means
The name and imagery may suggest a literal theme, but Kelland described the shirt as symbolic. “There are recurring themes and motifs throughout my art. For example, the BANG BANG tee isn’t about guns, cowgirls, or mermaids,” she told the Mandurah Times. “It’s a symbolic piece about intuition — trusting your inner voice, following the flow of life, and not letting other people’s opinions or expectations hold you back.”
She has also framed the appeal of oversized T-shirts in practical terms: “I think people are really embracing oversized tees right now — they’re comfortable, easy to wear, and make you feel put-together with minimal effort.” That is Kelland’s view, as reported in the profile, not independent market research.

Plans reported in May 2025
At the time of the 2 May 2025 article, Kelland said a throw rug with the brand Salty Aura was due the following month and that she had started designing linen top-and-pant sets. The profile also described cushions, bedding and tablecloths as natural possibilities for expanding into homewares. These were plans reported then; the article does not establish whether those products subsequently launched or are currently available.

The profile presented Kelland’s business as a longer transition built on retail experience, print sales and design work, rather than an overnight success. It also touched on the demands of running a business while raising a family. Kelland said: “But that balancing act is something I think all mothers deal with in one way or another, and a big part of it is simply accepting the season you’re in.”
