How to judge an AI headshot service
A professional-looking image is not necessarily a good headshot if it stops looking like you. Check these factors before choosing:

- Identity fidelity: Does the face retain its real proportions, hairline, skin texture, glasses, facial hair, and distinctive features?
- Professional suitability: Do the crop, expression, clothing, posture, light, and background suit the role and intended use?
- Useful variety: Are there genuinely different usable poses and looks, or mostly near-duplicates? A bigger gallery does not guarantee more keepers.
- Resolution: Is the file adequate for a profile image, website, or print? High resolution does not guarantee better likeness or composition.
- Input and revisions: How many source photos are required, and are edits, credits, or a retry included?
- Privacy and rights: How long are uploads and generated images retained? Are they used for model training? What do the actual terms say about ownership and commercial use?
- Total cost and refunds: Check whether a redo costs extra, whether taxes apply, and whether downloading affects refund eligibility.
This is a feature-and-use-case comparison, not a same-input independent image test. Vendor pages can establish what each company advertises about its plans and policies; they do not prove that one service produces the most realistic likenesses for every face. Many roundup rankings also include vendor-produced comparisons or do not publish enough testing detail to support universal quality claims.
1. Aragon AI: best for a fast, varied solo package
Aragon is a sensible starting point if you want several conventional business looks without managing a team workflow. Its public pricing page lists Basic at $35 for 40 headshots with one attire and background, Standard at $45 for 60 with two attires and backgrounds, and Executive at $75 for 100 with all listed attires and backgrounds. Advertised turnaround ranges from about 45 minutes for Basic to 15 minutes for Executive.
The resolution distinction matters more than the headline gallery size for some uses: Basic and Standard are listed at 896 × 1088 pixels, while Executive is 1792 × 2176. The lower tiers should suit many profile and web uses; Executive is the more relevant option if you need a larger file for print or prominent brand placement. For context, Aragon notes a 400 × 400-pixel recommended LinkedIn image size, so many users do not need the highest-resolution tier for that use alone.

Choose it if: turnaround, multiple looks, and a larger gallery matter more than the lowest entry price. Watch out for: the refund language is conditional. Aragon says refunds are available when a customer has not downloaded or does not intend to download the photos; downloaded orders may be handled case by case. Read the current terms before purchase and decide whether the images are acceptable before downloading where that affects eligibility.

2. HeadshotPro: best for one-time pricing and team workflows
HeadshotPro has the lowest listed starting price of these three and presents its individual plans as one-time purchases. Its pricing page lists Basic at $29 for 30 standard-resolution headshots, roughly two hours of advertised processing, six photo credits, and no retry. Professional is listed at $39 for 50 premium-resolution images, about 30 minutes, 26 credits, and one free redo. Executive is listed at $59 for 70 ultra-resolution images with an advertised turnaround of about 15 minutes. The Basic package description says final images are at least 2048 pixels, while the plans distinguish among resolution tiers.
Do not read “30 headshots” as 30 independent full generations. The package description separates base photos from photo credits that can be used for changes such as edits, outfits, backdrops, or additional generations. Confirm what the current checkout includes, especially if you expect to revise a batch. The entry plan’s lack of a retry makes good source photos particularly important.
The company also advertises team-oriented workflows. HeadshotPro says input photos are deleted after seven days and generated headshots after 30 days, with faster deletion available through account settings; it also states that users receive ownership and commercial rights. These are company statements, not a substitute for reviewing its current terms and privacy information. Its site advertises a money-back guarantee for customers who do not receive a profile-worthy image, but check the detailed eligibility conditions rather than assuming every unsatisfactory result qualifies.

Choose it if: a one-time purchase, clear package tiers, and team features matter most. Watch out for: the entry package has no retry, and credits complicate a simple comparison of output counts.

3. BetterPic: best for 4K output and optional retouching
BetterPic is aimed at buyers who want more control over styles and may need a high-resolution asset for a website, marketing material, or print. Its published plan details list Basic at $35 for 20 4K headshots and two AI edits; Pro at $39 for 60 headshots across three styles and four edits; and Expert at $79 for 120 headshots across six styles, eight edits, and unlimited human edits on one photo, plus a free redo option. The page lists a Team plan at approximately $34 per person, with 60 images per member and team-management features. Verify the exact plan and price at checkout.
All listed plans are described as including a commercial license, and the company advertises a seven-day money-back guarantee. BetterPic also says it does not sell uploaded photos or use them to train AI models, and says it complies with GDPR and CCPA. Treat these as vendor claims: read the current privacy policy, terms, and checkout language to understand retention, deletion, license scope, and guarantee conditions. Its human-editing option is plan-limited and applies to one photo on the listed Expert plan, not the entire gallery.
Choose it if: 4K files, style control, or the option of a human touch justify a smaller entry gallery. Watch out for: “4K” is a resolution claim, not evidence of improved likeness, and the Basic plan gives you fewer images than the other entry packages.

- For a quick solo headshot package: Start with Aragon, but note its refund conditions and choose the resolution tier for your actual use.
- For the lowest listed upfront price: HeadshotPro Basic is $29, but it has no retry. If revisions matter, compare the higher tier and its included credits instead of choosing by headline price alone.
- For 4K brand assets or possible retouching: BetterPic is the clearest match, particularly if you need a human edit on a selected image.
- For a company team: HeadshotPro and BetterPic advertise team features; Aragon also promotes team headshots. Ask about admin access, employee consent, billing, image consistency, retention, deletion when staff leave, and the company’s rights to use each person’s portrait before onboarding a team.
- If a redo is important: Compare the precise plan-level redo terms. HeadshotPro Professional lists one free redo; BetterPic Expert lists a free redo option. Aragon’s refund language is not the same thing as a guaranteed redo.
For a profile photo displayed at small size, a less expensive resolution tier may be enough. For print or a large website placement, resolution matters more, but inspect the actual face and composition first. Compare the likely number of usable images—not just total files—and account for credits, edits, and any extra charge to redo a weak result.

How to prepare photos for a better result
These services train or configure a portrait workflow around photos of you, so the input set strongly affects the result. The companies publish different requirements and recommendations: Aragon’s public workflow and comparison material commonly point to six or more photos; BetterPic recommends eight; HeadshotPro package materials refer to photo credits, while some comparison pages describe a low-single-digit selfie requirement. Check the current upload screen for the actual minimum. A minimum upload count is not the same as a recommended count, an edit credit, or the number of generated portraits.
- Use recent photos that match your current hairstyle, glasses, facial hair, and appearance.
- Provide varied angles and expressions rather than a stack of nearly identical selfies. BetterPic specifically recommends variety in angles, expressions, outfits, and lighting; this is vendor guidance, not independent test evidence.
- Use clear, well-lit images with your whole face visible. Include a neutral expression and a natural smile if you want both kinds of output.
- Avoid sunglasses, heavy filters, extreme expressions, obstructive hats, group pictures, and shadows that obscure facial features.
- Only upload photos of yourself or images you have permission to use. These services do not need children’s images or sensitive identity documents for a professional headshot.
After generation, compare each finalist with a recent real photo. Check the nose, jawline, eye spacing, hairline, skin texture, teeth, glasses, facial hair, and distinctive asymmetries. A polished image that changes your apparent age, ethnicity, or recognizable features may be a poor choice for a professional profile. Also inspect collars, lapels, jewelry, hair edges, background lighting, and crop; AI can make clothes or backgrounds look plausible at a glance but malformed on closer inspection.
Distinctive hairstyles, tattoos, scars, medical devices, religious clothing, wheelchairs, or nonstandard professional attire can be rendered inconsistently. If representing these accurately is important, favor a plan with a clear retry or editing path, inspect the output closely, or choose a photographer who can work with your requirements.
Privacy, rights, and refunds: check before paying
A face photo is personal data, and facial imagery can be sensitive depending on the jurisdiction and context. Before uploading, look beyond a marketing-page assurance and verify:
- How long original uploads and generated images are retained, and how to request earlier deletion.
- Whether photos are used to train models, shared with service providers, or accessible to team administrators.
- Where data is stored and what happens to employee portraits when someone leaves a team.
- Whether “ownership,” a license to use an image, and commercial-use permission are each addressed in the terms. They are related but not interchangeable.
- Whether the license covers your intended use and any company use of employee portraits.
- Whether refunds or redos are affected by downloading images, using credits, completing generation, or buying through a promotion.
HeadshotPro’s deletion and rights statements, BetterPic’s commercial-license and privacy statements, and Aragon’s ownership and use statements are vendor representations. Review each service’s current policy and terms; general claims of privacy compliance or security do not make a service risk-free. If a refund policy turns on downloads or other actions, save a copy of the checkout terms and wait to download until you have assessed the result where practical.
When a real photographer is the better choice
Use a human photographer when the image must represent you exactly as you currently look, when it is for legal identification, when a regulated profession or employer requires authentic photography, or when your organization has a no-AI policy. A photographer is also the better option for environmental portraits, props, products, complex lighting, or a highly distinctive appearance that a generator repeatedly alters. AI headshot services are best treated as a convenient portrait option, not a guarantee of faithful representation.
