The Time and Again Mini Quilt is a two-color blue-and-white table topper designed by Ann Hermes. It finishes at 16-3/4 inches square and combines a compact pieced center with a border made from 76 Flying Geese units. The pattern was published by American Patchwork & Quilting on November 12, 2015.

What size is the Time and Again Mini Quilt?

The finished quilt measures 16-3/4 inches square; its central block measures 12-3/4 inches square. The pattern’s measurements include 1/4-inch seam allowances. Its small finished size makes it a table topper or miniature quilt, rather than a bed quilt. AllPeopleQuilt includes the project in its Free Patterns for Mini Quilts roundup, which describes the collection as projects less than 26 inches square.

What fabric and supplies do you need?

The pattern quantities are based on 44/45-inch-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. It calls for assorted blue prints and white shirtings, plus a darker blue print for binding:

  • 1/2 yard total assorted blue prints for units and border
  • Two 1/3-yard pieces of assorted white shirtings for units and border
  • 1/4 yard dark blue print for binding
  • 3/4 yard backing fabric
  • One 25-inch-square piece of batting

The pattern specifies fabric types and a blue-and-white palette, not a particular fabric collection. When choosing prints, preserve a clear light-versus-dark distinction so the pieced shapes remain legible; keeping the prints in a similar scale can also help the small design feel cohesive. Those are selection considerations based on the pattern’s two-color design, not tested requirements.

How is the quilt pieced?

Construction begins with a small center unit. Strip sets are then used to make Nine-Patch and Four-Patch components and side units. The center is assembled by joining these pieces with corner units.

The border uses 76 Flying Geese units. Each is made by stitching marked white squares to both ends of a blue rectangle. The geese are joined into short and long strips, centered along the quilt center, attached, and trimmed even with the edges.

The instructions say to sew right sides together unless otherwise noted. Follow the pattern’s cutting and assembly sequence to keep the small units oriented correctly.

How do you finish and quilt it?

Layer the completed top with the batting and backing, then baste. Quilt as desired and bind the edges with the dark blue print strips. Ann Hermes’s example quilting places an X through the center and radiating Vs on each side, creating a chevron motif.
