To make a beaded snowflake, choose the construction first: weave beads together on thread, or string them onto a shaped wire frame. The method determines the stitch, bead sizes, quantities and tools, so follow one pattern’s materials and directions rather than combining parts from different designs.

Choose a construction method
- Thread weaving joins beads into a snowflake with a bead stitch. The cited examples use right-angle weave or herringbone and require beads with holes suited to the pattern’s thread and repeated passes.
- Wire-frame stringing decorates a shaped wire form with beads. It avoids a woven stitch, but calls for wire that can hold its shape and tools to bend or trim it.
- A kit can provide ready-made forms and assorted supplies. Check the current listing for exactly what is included and its age guidance.
For any method, use the cited project as a complete pattern: bead sizes and counts are design-specific, not interchangeable standards.

Make a wire-frame beaded snowflake
The LTK project is the simplest of these documented routes if you prefer arranging beads on arms rather than weaving a stitch. Its directions are specific to that project.
- Gather 20-gauge wire, beads, jewelry pliers, scissors or wire cutters, and ribbon.
- Cross four eight-inch wire pieces to form an eight-pointed snowflake.
- Thread beads onto each arm. For a balanced result, the sheet suggests using matching bead patterns on mirrored arms.
- Bend the ends of the arms into loops to keep the beads in place, then tie on ribbon for hanging.
The project sheet also allows other bead patterns. Its directions are source instructions, not independently tested recommendations.

Make a thread-woven snowflake
Right-angle weave with crystals
The BeadJewelryMaking project uses white 12/0 seed beads, two sizes of crystals and 0.25 mm beading string. It begins by cutting about one metre of string and forming a centered ring of eight beads. Continue with that tutorial’s sequence, pulling the thread tight as directed; do not treat its quantities as requirements for other snowflake patterns.
Herringbone with a rivoli focal
The PotomacBeads Snow Day pattern uses 8/0, 11/0 and 15/0 beads in separate roles, plus a 10 mm rivoli. Its starting loop and repeated passes form part of that design’s construction. Bead sizes, focal and wire S-hook are all pattern-specific; follow the linked tutorial rather than substituting the right-angle-weave project’s materials.

Choose beads and tools that match the pattern
- For weaving: check the exact bead sizes, crystal dimensions, thread diameter and required thread passes. Smaller beads are not automatic substitutes for larger ones; hole size and fit matter to the pattern.
- For a wire frame: check the frame’s number of arms and dimensions, wire gauge, and how the design retains beads at the tips. The cited LTK sheet specifies 20-gauge wire and pliers plus cutters or scissors.
- For hanging: the examples use different solutions: ribbon on the LTK frame, and a wire S-hook on the PotomacBeads ornament. Use the one specified by the design you are making.
Consider a kit if you want preselected supplies
Faber-Castell’s Beaded Snowflake Ornaments listing describes four wire snowflake forms, an assortment of beads with endcaps, glue, ribbons, a bead tray, instructions, and printed gift envelopes and seals.
