The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (BMPCC 4K) has an active Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens mount. Five models named in Blackmagic Design’s camera materials are the Panasonic Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8, Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8, and Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm, 25mm, and 45mm f/1.2 PRO. They are documented examples—not tested or ranked winners. Choose by focal length and zoom-versus-prime needs, then verify electronic functions for the exact lens and camera firmware.
What to know about BMPCC 4K lens compatibility
The BMPCC 4K uses an active MFT mount, so an MFT lens is the direct mount type to investigate. Blackmagic says supported lenses can provide electronic iris, focus, and zoom control, and that autofocus is available with compatible lenses. That does not mean every MFT lens offers every function or behaves identically. Confirm the exact lens version and camera firmware support before buying.
Do not confuse the BMPCC 4K with Blackmagic’s 6K models, which use a different mount. The BMPCC 4K’s effective sensor size is 18.96 × 10 mm, and its specifications list 4096 × 2160 4K DCI capture up to 60 fps. These camera specifications do not establish which lens performs best.
Blackmagic identifies Olympus, Panasonic, and Sigma as makers of active MFT lenses, including primes and telephoto lenses. Its official workflow and gallery materials name the five options below. Those references show association with the camera, not comparative testing.
#1 Best Overall
- Multi coated lens: A multi coated lens element reduces ghost and flare to deliver high optical performance (12 elements in 9 groups, [1 UHR lens and 2 aspherical lenses])
- Near silent focusing for video and still: inner focus system enables excellent resolution and contrast from full life size magnification to infinity; stepping motor makes focusing action smooth and near silent for use in video and photo recording
- Lumia optical image stabilization: Panasonic Mega O. I. S. Makes it easy to shoot super clear shots even in low lit situations by suppressing the blur caused by a hand movement
- Medium zoom lens: A 45 150mm (35mm camera equivalent: 90 300mm) focal length with F4. 0 5. 6 ASPH provides a versatile medium zoom range of daily situations
- Seven aperture blade construction: The lens’ seven aperture blades produce an attractive smoothness in out of focus areas, even when shooting at large aperture
Five lens options named in Blackmagic materials
| Lens | Type and stated focal length | Potential fit by focal length | Compatibility checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Panasonic Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8 | Zoom; 35–100mm, f/2.8. Named in Blackmagic workflow material. | A telephoto-range zoom to consider when you want framing flexibility across that range. | Confirm the exact version’s electronic iris, focus, zoom, and autofocus behavior with the BMPCC 4K and its firmware. |
| Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 | Zoom; 12–40mm, f/2.8. Named in Blackmagic workflow material. | A standard-range zoom to consider when you want to change framing without swapping primes. | Check electronic controls and autofocus support for the exact lens revision and camera firmware. |
| Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.2 PRO | Prime; 17mm, f/1.2. Named in Blackmagic gallery material. | A wider prime option among these five, based on its stated focal length. | Verify the specific lens and firmware combination for the electronic functions you need. |
| Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO | Prime; 25mm, f/1.2. Named in Blackmagic gallery material. | A middle focal-length prime option among these five; whether its framing suits you depends on the shot. | Check exact-version compatibility, including electronic iris and focus operation. |
| Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.2 PRO | Prime; 45mm, f/1.2. Named in Blackmagic gallery material. | A longer prime option among these five, based on its stated focal length. | Confirm the exact lens and firmware support for required electronic controls and autofocus. |
The focal-length descriptions are practical inferences from the numbers in each lens name, not measured field-of-view recommendations. Blackmagic’s references do not establish relative sharpness, distortion, stabilization, autofocus speed, handling, or low-light performance.
How to choose among these five
- Choose a zoom if framing flexibility matters. The 12–40mm and 35–100mm cover different stated ranges; consider which one better matches the focal lengths you expect to use.
- Choose a prime if one focal length suits your planned shots. The three PRO primes listed here are 17mm, 25mm, and 45mm.
- Compare the printed maximum apertures for your needs. The zooms are f/2.8 and the primes are f/1.2 as stated in their model names. Those figures alone are not a comparative test of image quality or low-light results.
- Prioritize confirmed operation over a generic compatibility label. Mount fit and electronic feature support are separate questions. Verify the exact lens revision, condition, camera firmware, and controls before purchase.
What the official examples do—and do not—establish
Blackmagic’s workflow material names the Panasonic Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8 and Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8, and also references an Olympus 45mm f/1.8. Its gallery names the Olympus 17mm, 25mm, and 45mm f/1.2 PRO lenses. The 45mm f/1.8 is a separate model from the 45mm f/1.2 PRO included in the five-option list.
