In particular, the Mimaki figure comes from a dealer promotion document, not a guaranteed current quote.
What UV DTF does—and what it does not
UV DTF prints a graphic with UV-curable ink onto a transfer medium. The transfer is then applied to a hard product, which can make decorating a curved bottle, promotional item or object that will not fit comfortably in a flatbed more practical. Roland describes its offering as a system built from a compatible UV printer, UV-DTF print sheets, transfer film and suitable inks; its workflow is not simply a printer alone. See Roland’s UV-DTF system description.

It is distinct from apparel DTF. Standard DTF uses pigment ink, transfer film, adhesive powder and heat to decorate fabric. UV DTF is intended for hard-product decoration and is not a substitute for a garment-transfer setup. For example, Roland’s BN-20D is an apparel DTF system, not a UV-DTF printer.
Choose the process by the product, not the letters DTF on a listing. If you mainly decorate shirts, hoodies or tote bags, investigate apparel processes. If you print directly onto flat rigid goods, a UV flatbed may be a better fit. UV DTF is especially relevant when the item is hard, curved, uneven, awkward to fixture or too large to place in the printer.

1. Procolored VF13 Pro Panda: value-oriented capacity for a small shop
Procolored lists the VF13 Pro as a 13-inch A3+ dual-XP600, 2-in-1 UV-DTF printer. Its displayed price was $6,399 in the August 16, 2026 price snapshot. Check the comparison page and store for current availability and pricing.
The wider listed format makes it more plausible than a compact A4-class machine for batching small transfers or producing larger graphics. Its dual-head configuration is a specification, not proof of a particular throughput: the available information does not establish a comparable production speed or confirm how much output a small business can sustain after loading, finishing and maintenance.
- Consider it if: you have recurring small-shop demand and need more width than a compact desktop option, while keeping the purchase price below the branded flatbeds in this list.
- Be cautious if: you need independently documented reliability, a nearby service technician or assured production support.
- Before buying: get written confirmation of the UV-DTF workflow, A/B film or sheets included, RIP compatibility, ink and white-ink support, warranty terms, printhead replacement cost, training and consumable availability in your country.
Verdict: A value-oriented capacity pick, provided the seller can document the complete configuration and you are comfortable evaluating service and maintenance risk before committing.

2. Procolored V6 Panda: compact entry point for small-format work
Procolored lists the V6 as a 6.7-inch A4 L800 UV printer at a displayed $3,599. The listing and price signal appear on its machine comparison page. The available product description calls it a UV printer, so do not assume that the quoted machine is a complete UV-DTF system without confirming the exact setup.

A smaller format may suit short runs of small graphics, labels and personalized items, and the lower purchase price can make demand testing less capital-intensive. It also constrains transfer size and may make batching less efficient. The purchase price does not establish ownership cost: film, ink, cleaning, ventilation, software and any needed finishing equipment still matter.
- Consider it if: your designs are small, expected volume is limited and the seller confirms that the model supports your intended UV-DTF process.
- Be cautious if: you need larger graphics, higher daily output or a clearly documented turnkey transfer workflow.
- Before buying: ask what film, laminating equipment, compatible ink and RIP software are included; what maintenance is required when idle; and what local support and replacement parts are available.
Verdict: A potential compact starter for a narrowly defined small-format workload, not a safe assumption for a complete UV-DTF setup until its included components are confirmed.
3. Roland VersaSTUDIO BD-8: premium compact flatbed with transfer capability
The BD-8 is a desktop UV flatbed that Roland includes in its UV-DTF workflow. Roland lists a 5.8-by-8.3-inch print area, 4-inch head height and U.S. MSRP of $10,995. The manufacturer lists CMYK plus white and either primer or gloss configurations. Details and UV-DTF media information are on the Roland UV-DTF system page.
Unlike a dedicated transfer printer, a flatbed can also print directly onto suitable products. That flexibility may matter to a shop handling both flat rigid items and transfer jobs. In return, the small area may limit transfer size, and a flatbed workflow can mean more manual positioning and loading than roll-to-roll production. The media is separate: Roland lists 25 A sheets at $90.99 and an 82-foot B-film roll at $63.99; ink is also separate. These are listed media prices, not a cost-per-transfer figure.

Compatible with RIP software and simple operation makes it suitable for beginners starting a custom printing business and professionals handling high-volume projects.
- Consider it if: compact operation, a branded ecosystem and the option to print directly as well as make transfers are worth more to you than minimum purchase cost.
- Be cautious if: you need wide sheets, continuous transfer output or the lowest capital cost.
- Before buying: confirm the software bundle, dealer support, included accessories, consumable costs and whether your target objects are better handled by direct printing or a transfer.
Verdict: A premium compact choice for a business that can use both flatbed printing and UV-DTF; its price and limited area make it hard to justify for transfers alone without a volume case.
4. Roland VersaSTUDIO BD-12: more desktop area in the same ecosystem
Roland lists the BD-12 with an 8.3-by-12-inch print area, 4-inch head height and U.S. MSRP of $15,995. Like the BD-8, it is a UV flatbed that can be used in Roland’s UV-DTF system, rather than a dedicated roll-to-roll UV-DTF printer. See the manufacturer’s specifications and workflow details.
The larger stated area can accommodate larger graphics or more small designs per layout than the BD-8, subject to the usable area and job layout. It costs substantially more, so compare the value of the extra area against your actual recurring work. Do not assume that nominal bed dimensions equal a guaranteed transfer yield.
- Consider it if: the BD-8’s area is a real bottleneck, and you want a desktop machine that can handle direct UV printing as well as UV-DTF work.
- Be cautious if: transfer demand is occasional or the additional capacity would sit unused.
- Before buying: ask a dealer for a sample made with your artwork and intended materials, and compare current system, media, service and training quotes against expected order volume.
Verdict: The stronger of the two Roland desktop picks when area matters; the extra investment makes sense only if it removes a specific production constraint.
5. Mimaki UJV300DTF-75: dedicated production system for established demand
Mimaki describes the UJV300DTF-75 as a UV-DTF printer. It is a roll-to-roll system with a maximum media width of 650 mm / 25.6 inches. The U.S. specification sheet lists a production speed of 3.2 m²/h for its stated configuration; that manufacturer figure is not a direct comparison with the desktop models. See the Mimaki product page and U.S. specification sheet. Mimaki’s product brochure emphasizes film feeding and detailed graphics.

A Mimaki dealer document gives a $29,995 MSRP signal, but it is a dated promotion document, not a guaranteed current quote. Check the dealer pricing document and obtain an up-to-date written quote. A roll-to-roll format and wider media suit recurring transfer production better than occasional personalization, but the purchase is only part of the commitment: footprint, installation, training, service and ongoing materials need to be priced too.
- Consider it if: you already have repeat transfer demand, wholesale customers or production volume that benefits from wide continuous media.
- Be cautious if: you are a startup validating a product line, have limited workspace or cannot support a commercial installation and maintenance routine.
- Before buying: request a current dealer quote, service and installation terms, a print sample on your intended film, and a throughput demonstration that includes the mode and workflow you would actually use.
Verdict: A production-growth option, not a practical default for a new or home-based business.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right type of system
Start with the product and printing method
Decide whether you need to print directly onto flat goods, produce transfers for difficult-to-fixture objects, or do both. Flatbed printers can print directly and may offer white, primer, gloss or texture effects, but they can require fixtures and manual loading. UV-DTF transfers suit hard objects that are curved, uneven or awkward to place on a bed. Dedicated roll-to-roll equipment is designed around continuous transfer production; it brings a larger investment and footprint.
Test the actual material before promising compatibility. Dust, oils, silicone coatings, low-surface-energy plastics, texture, powder coating and existing finishes can affect adhesion. A transfer that looks correct on film may still fail on the product. Roland advises testing the application material; its UV-DTF system information is a useful starting point, not a substitute for a sample test on your own item.
Match usable area and throughput to orders
Listed dimensions are not interchangeable: the Procolored models are described by A4/A3+ class and inch listings, Roland gives bed areas, and Mimaki specifies maximum media width. Ask each seller for the usable print area and a sample layout using your designs. For throughput, count complete jobs—not just printer output. Loading, film handling, laminating, cutting, applying, cleaning and downtime all affect how many sellable pieces you can deliver.

The Mimaki sheet’s 3.2 m²/h is the one stated production-speed figure in this comparison; it applies to the manufacturer’s stated configuration. The available product information does not establish comparable speed figures for the other models. Do not convert head count or nominal area into a promised daily output.
Calculate the complete ownership cost
Build a quote that includes the printer, UV ink, white ink and its maintenance, A/B film or sheets, any laminator, RIP software, cleaning supplies, ventilation or workspace changes, replacement printheads, shipping, installation, training and service coverage. Add labor and spoilage from failed prints or applications. Roland’s separately listed media prices—$90.99 for 25 A sheets and $63.99 for an 82-foot B-film roll—illustrate why printer MSRP alone cannot establish cost per transfer. Actual cost depends on artwork size, waste, ink use and successful yield.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a basic break-even estimate, calculate monthly fixed ownership costs, then add materials and labor per sellable transfer. Compare that with the amount you retain per transfer after selling costs. A printer is not justified by a seller’s projected return: it is justified if your own repeatable order volume and margin cover the full cost while leaving time for production and upkeep.
Check service, maintenance and workspace before purchase
White ink can add maintenance work; advertised circulation or anti-clog features are design claims, not proof of failure-free ownership. Ask for the daily and idle-time procedures, cleaning frequency, printhead pricing, warranty coverage for clogs and expected part availability. Get the response in writing, including whether technical support is local, whether installation and training are included, and who performs repairs.
- Confirm electrical requirements, machine dimensions, clearance and access through doors.
- Ask the manufacturer or dealer about ventilation, UV-light precautions, ink and cleaning-fluid handling, and safe disposal of contaminated wipes.
- Check the specified temperature and humidity range and whether the workspace can maintain it.
- Request a test print and adhesion sample on the actual product or a materially identical surface.
A compact footprint alone does not establish that a UV printer is suitable for an ordinary home room.
When outsourcing transfers is the better business decision
Outsourcing is often the lower-risk way to test demand before buying equipment. It avoids printer maintenance and capital expense, though it gives you less control over turnaround, color matching, minimum quantities and per-transfer margin.
- Outsource while monthly demand is low or uncertain.
- Consider it if you lack workspace, maintenance experience or time to manage white-ink equipment.
- Use it when you need several sizes or material-specific runs without owning multiple systems.
- Move toward ownership only after repeat orders show that in-house production’s savings or control justify the printer, consumables, labor and service costs.
For flat promotional products that fit a bed, compare the economics of direct UV printing on a flatbed against transfer production. For apparel, evaluate a standard DTF or another fabric-decoration process instead; the Roland BN-20D is one example of an apparel DTF system, not a UV-DTF alternative for hard goods.
