For contemporary art in Paris, start with Palais de Tokyo, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (MAM Paris), and Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection. They offer different experiences: a contemporary exhibition program, a broad modern-and-contemporary collection, and changing displays from a private collection. Fondation Louis Vuitton is another strong choice if you want major art exhibitions alongside distinctive architecture, while Fondation Cartier’s exhibition spaces were closed for installation on 5 October 2026.
There is no universal ranking: choose by the show you want to see, the kind of art visit you prefer, and where you will be in the city. Hours, tickets, and exhibitions can change, so check the venue’s official visitor information for your date.

Palais de Tokyo: contemporary exhibitions
Palais de Tokyo is the most direct choice if you want a program explicitly centered on contemporary art. Its website listed a new season beginning 21 October 2026, with “territory” as its theme. Since exhibition details and access can change, use the venue’s current listings to decide whether a specific show suits your visit.

MAM Paris: collection and temporary shows
MAM Paris is the collection-led option. The Centre Pompidou describes its holdings as more than 15,000 works representing artistic movements of the 20th and 21st centuries, and says a selection of 500 works is available free year-round in its permanent galleries. Temporary exhibitions offer another reason to visit; the 2026 Marcel Duchamp Prize exhibition is scheduled for 2 October 2026–7 February 2027. MAM Paris is also participating in the Centre Pompidou Constellation program during the Paris institution’s renovation period, so distinguish the museum’s current activity from the closed Centre Pompidou building.
Bourse de Commerce: contemporary art in a historic setting
Bourse de Commerce combines temporary presentations from the Pinault Collection with a historic building transformed by architect Tadao Ando. The collection’s scope is described in the institution’s visitor booklet as art from the 1960s to the present. Two exhibitions, Remember Me and The History of Tears, are listed as opening 7 October 2026. Pinault Collection describes Remember Me as a group exhibition with around 700 works by more than 70 artists; those figures refer to that exhibition, not the collection as a whole.

Fondation Louis Vuitton: art and architecture
Fondation Louis Vuitton is a broad art foundation, not a contemporary-only museum. Its program can span major art-historical exhibitions alongside modern and contemporary contexts. Gustave Fayet: Collector–Designer is scheduled for 9 October 2026–8 March 2027. Its location in the Bois de Boulogne makes transport and timed entry worth checking as part of the plan.
Fondation Cartier: check whether the galleries have reopened
Fondation Cartier is a significant contemporary-art institution, but it was not an exhibition visit option on 5 October 2026: its website said the next show was being installed and only its bookshop was open. The next exhibition listed was Ibrahim Mahama’s The Harvest Season, scheduled for 22 October 2026–28 February 2027. Verify the visitor page for your date rather than relying on the scheduled opening alone.

How to plan a museum day
Pair Palais de Tokyo with MAM Paris
These neighboring venues on avenue du Président Wilson make the simplest two-museum pairing. MAM Paris can provide a free permanent-collection visit, while Palais de Tokyo offers a more explicitly contemporary exhibition program. Check each venue’s hours and exhibitions first; their opening days and ticket arrangements differ.
Choose Bourse de Commerce for central Paris
Bourse de Commerce is the convenient choice when you want to stay in central Paris and focus on a changing contemporary-art exhibition. Its current listing gives separate late-opening details for Fridays and the first Saturday of each month, so confirm the schedule for the date you have in mind.

Set aside time for Fondation Louis Vuitton
Fondation Louis Vuitton is a separate destination in the Bois de Boulogne rather than a natural addition to a central-Paris museum walk. Check its timed-entry availability and the shuttle schedule, which depends on the foundation’s opening hours.
