A True Mirror is a physical mirror designed to show a non-reversed view of your reflection. It uses two mirrors joined at a precise right angle; unlike an ordinary flat mirror, it needs careful alignment and handling.
What is a True Mirror?
“True Mirror” refers to a physical non-reversing mirror product, not simply another name for a standard flat mirror. The manufacturer describes its design as two mirrors placed at a 90-degree angle. The resulting reflection is presented without the familiar left-right reversal of a conventional mirror. The manufacturer’s product information describes the product and its available formats.
How does a non-reversing mirror work?
In an ordinary flat mirror, the image appears reversed from left to right. In the True Mirror, two reflective panels meet at a seam, and their right-angle arrangement produces the intended non-reversed view. The geometry matters: the company’s manual specifies a precise 90-degree angle, and its setup instructions describe adjusting the seam until a reflected line no longer appears visibly split. What does a True Mirror show?
It shows your reflection with the orientation other people generally see, rather than the familiar reversed presentation you see in an ordinary mirror. That difference can make everyday asymmetries or details seem unfamiliar, but how a person responds varies. The True Mirror Company’s 2016/2017 manual describes reactions ranging from liking the image to preferring the conventional reversed one; those are company observations, not findings from a representative population study.

The same manual reports that 10–20% are amazed and like their image, 30% see little difference, 40–50% do not like what they see at first, and 5% are afraid to look. The company does not provide a sampling method for these figures in the cited passage, so they should not be treated as independent or population-level statistics.

How to set up and care for one
The manufacturer’s manual, marked 2016/2017, recommends placing the mirror at eye level in soft, even lighting. It describes shelf or wall mounting and notes that heat and humidity can affect alignment, so adjustment may be needed. Follow the current instructions supplied with your model if they differ.

- Check the seam: Adjust it as directed by the manual so a reflected straight line does not appear split.
- Handle the reflective surface gently: The manual warns that grit can scratch the first-surface coating and advises against paper towels. Follow the current product instructions for appropriate cleaning materials.
- Use model-specific dimensions: The company lists multiple formats, including 12-by-12-inch, 18-by-18-inch, and 48-by-18-inch full-length versions. Dimensions and weights published for the full-length model do not apply to smaller formats.
The company’s full-length specifications describe a mirror and pedestal with first-surface mirrors joined at 90 degrees, and warn that the surfaces are fragile and easily scratched. Check the specifications for the exact model before planning installation or moving it.

The manual’s reactions describe the manufacturer’s observations, not a controlled study of how consumers respond to non-reversing mirrors. A separate 2016 academic study examined digital augmented-reality “magic mirror” systems used for anatomy teaching. It reported that a non-reversing setup was more suitable in the specific instructional situation where learners had previously acquired domain-specific knowledge. That study does not establish that a consumer True Mirror improves self-understanding, self-esteem, or mental health.

The physical True Mirror and a digital non-reversing display are also different implementations: one uses joined reflective panels, while the other presents an image on a screen. The academic study concerns its particular teaching application, not a consumer product comparison.
