“Undead cartoons” is a broad label, not one franchise: it can mean a show led by zombie characters, an adult comedy about an undead family, or a supernatural series with a spooky episode or setting. These examples differ in audience and tone, so the best fit depends on whether you want children’s comedy, fantasy adventure, adult animation, or supernatural humor.

Undead cartoons at a glance

Title Audience and tone How the undead or supernatural element fits What the source establishes
Mariachi Zombie Children ages 7–11; comedy A reanimated mariachi is the protagonist, with zombies presented as the good guys. Atomic Cartoons announced a development agreement in 2015 and planned 52 eleven-minute episodes; that announcement does not establish release or present production status.
Teenage Euthanasia Adult animated comedy An undead family’s adventures are central to the premise. Warner Bros. Discovery described the series in a 2023 season-two press release. The release announced a July 26, 2023 premiere, not current streaming availability or later renewal status.
The Hollow Kids’ television; fantasy adventure One episode, “Undead,” takes the friends to a spooky ghost town; the whole series is not described as a zombie show. Netflix lists two seasons and the episode. Catalog availability may vary by date and region.
Beetlejuice: The Animated Series Supernatural comedy An animated adaptation of Tim Burton’s film, set in the supernatural Neitherworld. SYFY Wire’s 2019 background feature supports it as a supernatural-adjacent choice, not specifically a zombie series.

Which one should you try?

For children’s zombie comedy: Mariachi Zombie

Atomic Cartoons’ 2015 announcement pitched Mariachi Zombie as a comedy for ages 7–11. Its reanimated mariachi protagonist values music and peace, while neighboring humans interrupt that life. The concept deliberately flips the familiar monster setup by casting the zombies as the good guys. The studio’s VP of Development, Rob Davies, said, “This quirky show really appealed to me because of my love for Mexican music and folklore-rich storytelling.” The announcement describes a development plan, however, not a released series.

For adult animation: Teenage Euthanasia

Teenage Euthanasia is the clearest adult-oriented pick here: Warner Bros. Discovery describes it as an Adult Swim animated comedy set in near-future Florida, following the Fantasy family’s undead adventures. Its 2023 release names PFFR as producer and Atomic Cartoons as animation studio. The announced season-two premiere date is historical; it does not confirm where the show can be watched now.

For a spooky kids’ adventure: The Hollow

The Hollow is a kids’ television series rather than a zombie-centered cartoon. Netflix’s title listing includes the episode “Undead,” in which the friends enter a ghost town and realize they are not alone. It suits viewers looking for a supernatural episode within a broader fantasy adventure.

For supernatural comedy: Beetlejuice: The Animated Series

Beetlejuice: The Animated Series adapts the world of Tim Burton’s film into animation, including its supernatural Neitherworld setting. It belongs on a broader undead-and-supernatural watchlist, but the available description does not identify it as a zombie series.

How to choose an undead cartoon

  • Start with audience: Mariachi Zombie was pitched for children ages 7–11; The Hollow is categorized as kids’ television; Teenage Euthanasia is adult animation.
  • Decide how central the undead premise should be: it leads the premise in Mariachi Zombie and Teenage Euthanasia, while The Hollow uses it for one episode and Beetlejuice draws on a wider supernatural world.
  • Match the tone: the examples range from children’s comedy and fantasy adventure to adult comedy and supernatural humor.
  • Check what kind of status information you are relying on: a development announcement, a season-premiere press release, and a streaming catalog listing establish different things. Neither an old announcement nor a dated press release proves present availability.

Are there many kinds of undead cartoons?

Yes. The phrase can cover quite different animation: zombie protagonists, undead characters in a family comedy, a ghost-town episode, or a supernatural setting. These four examples illustrate that range, but they are not a definitive or exhaustive catalogue of undead animation.
