Verdict: The original WeCreat Vision 20W remains a capable enclosed laser engraver for wood, leather, slate, coated metals, and moderate craft cutting. Its camera, autofocus, automatic-lifting enclosure, included air assist, and approachable software make it considerably easier to use than many open-frame diode lasers. However, it is not a universal cutter: clear acrylic, thick plywood, rapid production, and serious metalwork are outside its comfort zone. In 2026, buy it mainly when the price is meaningfully below the newer Vision Pro 45W or when you specifically want a smaller, simpler machine.

What is the WeCreat Vision?

The WeCreat Vision is a fully enclosed, Class 1 20W blue-diode laser engraver and cutter. This review concerns the original Vision—not the newer Vision Pro 45W, which is a larger and more powerful successor.

The Vision has a 420 × 290 mm (16.54 × 11.42 in) work area, a 455 nm laser, advertised engraving speeds of up to 600 mm/s, an integrated camera, autofocus, USB and Wi-Fi connectivity, and an automatically lifting enclosure. Its claimed spot size is 0.08 × 0.10 mm and its claimed motion accuracy is 0.01 mm. Those are useful specification points, but they should not be confused with guaranteed finished-product accuracy: material flatness, calibration, focus, kerf, settings, and processing technique all affect the result.

Air assist is included. Fume extraction is not: you need either an exhaust route or a compatible extractor. The enclosure makes the Vision more practical for a home studio, classroom, or small office than an open-frame diode machine, but it does not make ventilation optional.

What can the Vision cut?

The Vision is best understood as a craft cutter and engraver rather than a general-purpose fabrication machine. It is well suited to paper, card, basswood, other wood, leather, MDF, felt, and some dark opaque acrylic.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

WeCreat advertises wood cutting up to 10 mm, but that is a material- and settings-dependent maximum, not a promise of fast, clean, one-pass production. Wood density, glue content, warping, air assist, focus, power, speed, and the number of passes all matter. Tom’s Hardware reported successful cutting through 5 mm basswood and thin acrylic during testing.

Thicker material may require repeated passes. That can increase charring, leave a wider or less consistent kerf, and produce less attractive edges. Plywood is particularly unpredictable because its glue and core layers vary by supplier. For sellable work, test each new material rather than relying on a generic online setting.

Acrylic limitations

Dark, opaque acrylic is the most realistic acrylic target for a blue diode. Clear, white, and light-colored acrylic absorb the blue wavelength poorly and are substantially less suitable. If frequent acrylic cutting is central to your work, a CO₂ laser is usually the more natural choice.

What can it engrave?

Engraving is where the Vision is most convincing. Suitable projects include:

  • Wood, bamboo, and leather
  • Slate, marble, stone, ceramic, brick, and similar surfaces
  • Coated or painted metals
  • Coated stainless-steel tumblers
  • Dark glass and selected acrylics
  • Fabric, felt, and other craft materials that are safe to process

Tom’s Hardware successfully tested materials including slate and coated stainless-steel tumblers. A blue diode can remove or change a coating, but that is not the same as directly marking every bare metal. For more specialized metal and plastic engraving, WeCreat offers an optional 2W, 1064 nm infrared module.

  • Lightweight, Durable & Portable Design: Built from industrial-grade aluminum alloy, the 2kg compact engraver is easy to carry and store. With a 130x130mm working area and machine size of 250×250×162mm, it's optimized for home use without sacrificing pro-level performance.

What does the 2W infrared module add?

The optional infrared module is primarily for engraving metals, plastics, and black acrylic. WeCreat says it can cut black plastic up to approximately 1.5 mm, subject to the material and settings.

It is a useful specialty upgrade for jewelry, tumblers, metal objects, and certain plastics. It does not turn the Vision into a metal cutter or a fiber-laser equivalent. If your business requires substantial metal fabrication, this is the wrong platform.

Camera, autofocus, and ease of use

The camera is the Vision’s most important practical advantage. Instead of measuring an open bed and manually estimating where artwork will land, you can view the work area in the software and position a design relative to the material. Autofocus detects material height and adjusts the focal distance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This makes common jobs—personalized signs, ornaments, coasters, leather patches, and small gift products—far less intimidating for beginners. It can also reduce setup time for small batches.

Camera placement is convenience, not a guarantee of perfect registration. Calibration, bed placement, material thickness, lens perspective, reflective surfaces, and curved objects can all introduce errors. Calibrate the camera using WeCreat’s support guidance, and test alignment on scrap before engraving an expensive blank.

MakeIt software and LightBurn

WeCreat MakeIt is designed for beginners. It offers project templates, import tools, engrave/fill/cut modes, camera-based placement, and material test arrays. For straightforward personalized products, that simplicity is a strength.

More experienced users may prefer a mature design-and-control workflow. Current WeCreat support publishes guides for LightBurn setup and use, so the original launch-era statement that LightBurn was unsupported is outdated. Exact feature coverage—especially camera calibration, rotary operation, and device control—should still be checked for your particular Vision revision, operating system, and current LightBurn release.

MakeIt’s built-in AI image-generation feature should not be treated as a substitute for reliable vector artwork, typography, or properly licensed designs. For commercial work, use artwork you created or have permission to sell.

Setup and ownership workflow

  1. Prepare the workspace. Use a stable, nonflammable surface with enough vertical clearance for the lifting enclosure. Plan an exhaust route or install a compatible extractor.
  2. Unpack carefully. Accessories and beds may be stored inside the machine. Remove shipping protection and transport screws according to the manual before powering on.
  3. Connect the hardware. Install the exhaust hose, connect air assist, attach the Wi-Fi antenna if needed, and inspect the work area.
  4. Install software. Use MakeIt for the simplest path, or investigate current LightBurn compatibility for more advanced control.
  5. Calibrate and test. Calibrate the camera, place the material flat, run a material test array, and record power, speed, passes, and air-assist settings.
  6. Frame and focus. Position the artwork with the camera, run autofocus, and frame the job before starting.
  7. Monitor the job. Never leave combustible material cutting unattended. Stop if you see unexpected flames, smoke leakage, unusual sounds, or loss of airflow.

The official manual warns that extended or poorly routed exhaust hoses can weaken airflow and cause smoke leakage. It also warns about moisture entering through a disconnected hose and damage caused by improper repairs or modifications.

Safety and ventilation

The enclosed design reduces normal exposure to the beam and contains much of the debris, which is a meaningful advantage over an open-frame diode laser. WeCreat describes the system as Class 1. That classification does not mean every material or operating condition is safe.

  • Vent smoke outside through the exhaust hose or use a suitable extractor.
  • Do not process PVC, vinyl, unknown plastics, or materials that may release corrosive or toxic fumes.
  • Do not assume a filter makes every material safe or odorless indoors.
  • Keep combustible material and suitable fire-safety equipment nearby.
  • Do not leave cutting jobs unattended.
  • Inspect airflow, focus, and material placement before retrying a failed job.

Wood engraving may produce manageable smoke with proper extraction, while acrylic and coated materials can create stronger odors and more demanding fumes. Long hose runs, poor window routing, and blocked airflow reduce performance. An enclosed laser is not automatically an indoor, ventilation-free appliance.

Small-business suitability

The Vision can work well for a home business producing personalized items in low-to-moderate batches:

  • Signs and ornaments
  • Slate coasters
  • Leather patches
  • Wooden gifts
  • Custom wedding, pet, home-decor, and corporate-gift products
  • Coated drinkware, especially with the appropriate rotary accessory

Its camera can save setup time, but it does not provide industrial throughput or guaranteed production tolerances. It is a weaker choice for thick plywood, large furniture parts, frequent acrylic work, high-volume orders, or businesses that cannot manage fumes safely.

Budget for more than the machine itself: ventilation or extraction, a honeycomb panel, rotary hardware, the infrared module if needed, replacement or service parts, test materials, design software, fire-safety equipment, and the time required to tune settings.

Accessories worth considering

Rotary attachment

A rotary attachment enables work on tumblers, bottles, pens, and other cylindrical objects. It adds alignment and setup complexity, so it is worthwhile only if cylindrical products are part of your product line.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Honeycomb panel

A honeycomb panel can improve airflow beneath workpieces, reduce heat transfer, and produce cleaner cuts. It is more valuable for regular cutting than for occasional shallow engraving.

Fume extractor

A dedicated extractor can help when routing an exhaust hose outside is impractical. It is not a universal guarantee of clean indoor air, and the manual’s airflow warnings still apply.

Infrared module

The 2W IR module expands metal and plastic engraving. Confirm compatibility with the exact Vision generation before ordering, and do not buy it expecting metal-cutting performance.

WeCreat Vision versus Vision Pro

The newer Vision Pro is the more compelling option when the price difference is small and you will use its extra capacity.

Spot size 0.08 × 0.10 mm 0.08 × 0.08 mm
Long-material option No comparable standard conveyor workflow Optional auto pass-through feeder
Best fit Beginner craft work and moderate cutting Higher-throughput home businesses

The Pro offers more power, a larger work area, and optional long-sheet processing, but accessories can significantly increase its total cost. See Tom’s Hardware’s Vision Pro coverage for additional comparison context.

Vision versus cheaper diode and CO₂ alternatives

A cheaper open-frame diode laser may deliver more raw value if you already have a safe enclosure and ventilation plan. The trade-off is less protection, more manual alignment, and a less polished beginner workflow.

Enclosed competitors from Glowforge and xTool may offer different combinations of camera assistance, software, ecosystem support, and accessory pricing. Compare the complete workflow rather than choosing by wattage alone.

A CO₂ machine from vendors such as OMTech or Thunder Laser is generally better for frequent acrylic cutting and broader nonmetal cutting. It also brings greater demands for ventilation, cooling, space, maintenance, and safety. The Vision wins on approachability; a CO₂ laser wins when cutting versatility and throughput matter more.

Price and value in 2026

On the Canadian WeCreat storefront, prices seen August 18, 2026 were C$1,339 for the Basic Pack, C$1,769 for the Rotary Pack, C$1,899 for the CleanAir Pack, and C$2,699 for the Super Pack. These are Canadian prices, not U.S. prices, and packages, stock, and promotions can change.

The original Vision makes the most sense when discounted well below the Vision Pro and your work is primarily engraving or modest cutting. If an old Vision package approaches the price of a newer Pro bundle, the Pro is usually the stronger long-term purchase for a business because of its larger area and higher power.

Who should buy the WeCreat Vision?

  • Beginners who want an enclosed machine rather than an open-frame laser
  • Makers who value camera positioning and autofocus
  • Home studios producing wood, leather, slate, and coated-metal goods
  • Small businesses with low-to-moderate batch volumes
  • Buyers who can provide proper exhaust and supervision

Who should skip it?

  • Anyone primarily cutting clear or light-colored acrylic
  • Users needing thick plywood or fast multilayer cutting
  • Businesses requiring high-volume production or industrial serviceability
  • Buyers expecting to cut metal
  • Anyone without a realistic ventilation plan
  • Shoppers whose budget is close to a better-equipped Vision Pro

Final verdict

The WeCreat Vision 20W is a good beginner-friendly enclosed diode laser, and its camera-assisted workflow is genuinely useful rather than merely decorative. It is especially well matched to engraving and moderate craft cutting in wood, leather, slate, and coated materials.

Its limits are equally important: maximum cutting figures require qualification, clear acrylic is a poor target, the optional IR module is not a metal cutter, and the enclosure does not remove ventilation or fire-safety responsibilities. Buy the original Vision at a compelling discount for approachable craft work. For a growing home business, choose the Vision Pro when its additional power and work area justify the accessory cost. For serious acrylic cutting or industrial throughput, choose a suitable CO₂ or more specialized machine instead.
