Why the program brings art and community together
Maar Koodjal has used more than gallery-style displays: earlier editions included hands-on weaving, fashion, storytelling and interactive experiences alongside performances and exhibitions. Speaking to PerthNow about art projects and community in 2024, Whadjuk artist Julianne Wade said: “Doing art projects like weaving and painting and being together allows for that space to be a little bit vulnerable and trusting as well,”
Raine Square marketing and place manager Samantha Mills described the intent of the curated program to PerthNow in 2024: “We are honoured to present this curated calendar of immersive art activations, giving our community the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of First Nations culture and history and to gather to celebrate one of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth,”
