一方、GIMPがPhotoshopそのものになるわけではありません。Photoshopのファイル互換性、プラグイン、非破壊編集機能などが自動的に追加されることもありません。PhotoGIMP自体はGPL-3.0ライセンスの無料・オープンソースソフトウェアです。
PhotoGIMPには公式ウェブサイトはなく、入手先として案内されているのはGitHubの公式Releaseとリポジトリ内のリンクです。非公式ミラーや第三者配布サイトは避けてください。
インストール前の確認
- GIMPをインストールします。
- GIMPを一度起動し、初期設定フォルダーを作成させます。
- GIMPを完全に終了します。起動したまま設定ファイルをコピーしないでください。
- GIMPのバージョンを確認します。
- 現在の設定フォルダー全体を別の場所へコピーします。
設定フォルダーには、レイアウトやショートカットなどの個人設定が保存されています。追加したブラシ、フォント、プラグインなども、重要なものは別途バックアップしておくと安全です。
GIMPのバージョンについて
PhotoGIMPのREADMEには「GIMP 3.0以上」と記載されています。しかし、現在の配布物と標準手順は主に3.0フォルダーを前提にしています。
GIMP公式マニュアルでは、GIMP 3.2の設定フォルダーはWindowsで%APPDATA%GIMP3.2、macOSで~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.2/です。GIMP公式サイトには、2026年4月17日公開のGIMP 3.2.4が安定版として掲載されています。最新のバージョン情報はGIMP公式ダウンロードページで確認してください。

PhotoGIMPのIssue #194やIssue #218には、GIMP 3.2.xでUIが変わらない、またはスプラッシュ画面だけ変わるという報告があります。したがって、GIMP 3.2.xでは「対応済み」とは考えず、バックアップから戻せる状態で試してください。
WindowsにPhotoGIMPを導入する手順
1. 設定フォルダーを確認する
GIMP 3.0系の標準パスは次の場所です。
%APPDATA%GIMP3.0GIMP 3.2系では、通常は次の場所です。
%APPDATA%GIMP3.2%APPDATA%は通常、%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingを指します。
- WindowsキーとRキーを押します。
%APPDATA%GIMPと入力してEnterキーを押します。- 自分のGIMPのバージョンに対応する
3.0または3.2フォルダーがあることを確認します。 - そのフォルダーをデスクトップなどへコピーします。
2. PhotoGIMPをダウンロードして展開する
- PhotoGIMP公式ReleaseページからWindows用ZIPをダウンロードします。
- ZIPファイルを展開します。
- 展開先にあるPhotoGIMPの
3.0フォルダーを確認します。
3. 設定フォルダーへコピーする
GIMP 3.0系の場合、PhotoGIMPの3.0フォルダーを、次の場所にコピーします。
%APPDATA%GIMPコピー後の構造が、次のようになっていることを確認してください。
%APPDATA%GIMP3.03.03.0のように同じフォルダーが二重になってはいけません。既存ファイルの置き換えを求められたら、バックアップが完了していることを確認してから置き換えます。

4. 起動して確認する

- 新規画像の作成、画像の読み込み、保存ができるか
- 必要なブラシやプラグインが動作するか
Microsoft Store版GIMPを使っている場合
Microsoft Store版（MSIX）と通常の.exe版では、設定データの保存場所が異なる場合があります。通常の%APPDATA%GIMPに設定が見つからない場合は、Store版の設定を別の場所に保存している可能性があります。
Store版から.exe版へ移行する場合の設定データについては、GIMP公式のMicrosoft Store版に関する案内を確認してください。
MacにPhotoGIMPを導入する手順
1. 設定フォルダーを開く
GIMP 3.0系の標準パスは次の場所です。
~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.0/GIMP 3.2系では、通常は次の場所です。
~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.2/- GIMPを一度起動して終了します。
- Finderを開き、Command＋Shift＋Gを押します。
~/Library/Application Support/GIMPと入力して「移動」を選びます。3.0または3.2フォルダーがあることを確認します。- 使用中のフォルダーをデスクトップなどへコピーしてバックアップします。
Libraryは通常非表示ですが、「フォルダへ移動」を使えば直接開けます。
2. PhotoGIMPをコピーする
- PhotoGIMP公式ReleaseページからmacOS用ZIPをダウンロードします。
- ZIPを展開します。
- 展開された
3.0フォルダーを確認します。 ~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/へコピーします。- macOSから置き換えや結合を確認されたら、バックアップ済みであることを確認して実行します。
コピー後は、GIMP 3.0系なら~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.0/になるように配置します。古い2.10フォルダーが残っている場合は、どの設定が使われるか分かりにくくなるため、必要なバックアップを取ったうえで整理してください。

3. 起動して確認する
GIMPを起動し、スプラッシュ画面、ツール配置、ドック、ショートカットの変更を確認します。Intel MacとAppleシリコンMacではGIMPのビルドは異なりますが、PhotoGIMPの設定をコピーする手順自体は基本的に同じです。

GIMP 3.2.xの設定フォルダーは3.2ですが、PhotoGIMPの配布物は3.0を前提にしています。そのため、公式READMEの手順で3.0をコピーしても、GIMP 3.2.xが読み込まず、画面が変わらない可能性があります。
試す場合は、次の方法を「互換性確認のための試行」として扱ってください。公式に動作保証された手順ではありません。
- Windowsでは
%APPDATA%GIMP3.2、macOSでは~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.2をバックアップします。 - PhotoGIMPの
3.0フォルダーの内容を、対応する3.2フォルダーへコピーします。 - GIMPを起動してUIの変化を確認します。
- 変化がない、またはエラーが出る場合はGIMPを終了します。
- 設定フォルダーをバックアップから復元します。
作業前に、PhotoGIMPのIssuesとRelease情報で、使用中のGIMPバージョンへの対応状況を確認してください。
PhotoGIMPをアンインストールして元に戻す方法
PhotoGIMPは通常のプラグインではないため、専用のアンインストーラーを使いません。最も確実なのは、導入前に作成したバックアップを戻す方法です。

- GIMPを終了します。
- 現在の
3.0または3.2設定フォルダーを別名変更、または別の場所へ移動します。 - バックアップした設定フォルダーを元の場所へ戻します。
- GIMPを起動して、以前のレイアウトやショートカットに戻ったことを確認します。
バックアップがない場合は、対象の設定フォルダーを削除または名前変更してからGIMPを起動します。GIMPは次回起動時に新しい設定フォルダーを作成します。ただし、個人設定や追加データも失われる可能性があるため、削除前にフォルダーを別名変更して退避するほうが安全です。
よくある失敗と対処
何も変わらない
- GIMPを完全に終了してからコピーしたか確認する
- Windowsは
%APPDATA%GIMP3.0、Macは~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/3.0になっているか確認する 3.03.0の二重フォルダーになっていないか確認する- ZIPを正しく展開したか確認する
- GIMP 3.2.xの
3.2フォルダーを使っていないか確認する
起動時にエラーが出る
GIMPを終了し、設定フォルダーを別名変更して初期設定を再生成します。それでも直らない場合は、バックアップから復元してください。GIMP 2.xにGIMP 3.x向けのPhotoGIMPを適用していないかも確認します。PhotoGIMPの現行版はGIMP 2.x用とは限りません。
GIMPのアップデート後にPhotoGIMPが消えた
GIMPの更新で設定フォルダーが3.0から3.2のように変わることがあります。更新後は新しいPhotoGIMPを公式Releaseから取得し、対象バージョンへの対応状況を確認してから再適用してください。GIMP 3.2.xでは、再適用しても反映されない可能性があります。

既存のショートカットやレイアウトを細かく作り込んでいる場合、設定全体を置き換えるPhotoGIMPより、必要な部分だけ手動で変更するほうが安全です。GIMPの「編集」→「キーボードショートカット」からショートカットを変更し、ドックやツール配置も個別に調整できます。
業務環境で設定の再現性が必要な場合や、GIMP 3.2.xで確実な互換性が必要な場合は、対応版が公式Releaseで案内されるまで待つのも現実的です。Photoshopの機能、ファイル互換性、プラグイン環境まで必要なら、PhotoGIMPではなくPhotoshopまたは別の画像編集ソフトを検討してください。
