The xTool D1 Pro is a desktop diode laser engraver and cutter sold in several configurations, so a useful verdict depends on the laser module and included accessories—not just the model name. xTool lists 5W, 10W and 20W visible-diode modules plus a 2W 1064nm infrared module. Its published specifications and setup guidance describe a flexible machine, but the available independent review evidence here concerns a 20W kit only. This is a configuration-focused buying review, not a firsthand hands-on test.

What the xTool D1 Pro is—and which version you are considering

xTool describes the D1 Pro as a desktop diode laser cutter and engraver. In its product introduction, updated April 24, 2023, the company lists 5W, 10W and 20W visible-diode modules, as well as a 2W 1064nm infrared module. Those options are not interchangeable performance tiers: confirm the module type and wattage in the specific listing before judging whether the machine suits your projects. xTool’s D1 Pro Product Introduction is the source for the configuration and specification claims below.

xTool gives a nominal work area in the approximate 430 × 400 mm range, but the page contains inconsistent dimensions and configuration tables. Treat the area as a manufacturer-published specification to verify against the exact version and its manual, rather than a guaranteed measurement applying identically to every kit. xTool also lists USB and Wi-Fi connectivity and compatibility with xTool Creative Space (XCS) and LightBurn.

The company advertises a maximum processing speed of 24,000 mm/min in its feature text and 160 mm/s in its specification table. Those figures are mathematically equivalent; they are xTool’s stated maximum, not an independent speed test or a promise that any material can be processed at that rate.

What the available review evidence can—and cannot—tell you

Tom’s Hardware reviewed a 20W D1 Pro kit. Its report says the sample arrived as a kit, with the X-axis module preassembled, belts threaded into the Y-axis channels and most wiring already done. These are observations about that reviewed 20W package, not proof that every bundle has the same contents or arrives in the same state. Read Tom’s Hardware’s 20W D1 Pro review.

The evidence here does not establish cutting depth, material-by-material results, engraving accuracy, noise, long-term reliability or a comparative performance ranking across module options. Do not infer a universal verdict from the 20W review or from xTool’s headline specifications. Your intended materials, project size and included hardware should drive the decision.

Work area, accessories and project fit

The standard machine’s nominal work area is in the approximate 430 × 400 mm range according to xTool, subject to the configuration and documentation caveat above. xTool says its extension accessory expands the work area to 432 × 936 mm. That larger area is an accessory-dependent setup, not the standard machine’s working area; check that the extension kit is compatible with the exact D1 Pro and included in the offer if you need it.

xTool also lists an enclosure, air assist, honeycomb working panel, extension kit, risers and rotary engraving among its product materials. They serve different needs: a rotary setup is for cylindrical objects; an extension kit is for larger workpieces; risers address clearance; and air assist, a honeycomb panel and an enclosure are accessories to assess against your materials, workspace and safety plan. Confirm compatibility and actual bundle contents rather than assuming an accessory shown in product materials comes with the machine.

  • For small, flat projects: compare the standard work area with the size of your usual pieces and verify the module suits your intended materials.
  • For oversized work: check the extension kit’s stated 432 × 936 mm area and whether the required compatible components are included.
  • For cylindrical objects: verify that a compatible rotary attachment is part of the listing or available for the exact version.
  • For taller objects: check the machine’s clearance and whether compatible risers are needed.
  • For smoke-sensitive or batch work: plan ventilation and evaluate the enclosure, air assist and honeycomb panel as parts of the setup, not assumed standard equipment.

Setup and software workflow

xTool’s Quick Start Guide lists frame plates, shaft, laser module, safety goggles, material pack, power adapter, cables, TF card, coupling, screwdriver, hex key and other assembly items among package contents. The guide is the authoritative place to check the kit-specific assembly sequence and included parts: xTool D1 Pro Quick Start Guide.

  1. Inventory the actual kit. Compare what is in the box with the guide and listing; do not assume a used or bundled machine includes every item listed for a new package.
  2. Assemble and align according to the guide. xTool says the right and left timing belts should have the same tension for proper cutting and engraving. Use the guide’s focal-length setting bar when positioning the laser module.
  3. Choose the control software. The guide supports operation with xTool Creative Space or LightBurn. It notes that LightBurn must be purchased separately.
  4. Confirm your connection and accessories. xTool lists USB and Wi-Fi connectivity, but make sure the included cables, your computer workflow and any add-ons match your intended setup.

Safety: ventilation and eye protection are part of the setup

xTool warns that laser cutting produces smoke and says ventilation should be controlled. It also warns that intense laser light can harm eyes if stared at directly; the Quick Start Guide lists safety goggles among the components. Follow the current official safety instructions for the exact machine and module, maintain appropriate ventilation, and use the specified eye protection. Neither a laser cover nor eyewear included in a particular kit should be treated as removing all operational risk. xTool’s product introduction and Quick Start Guide provide the manufacturer’s published safety and setup information.

Is the D1 Pro discontinued, and what should a buyer check?

EngraverHQ’s recent review reports that the D1 series was discontinued effective January 1, 2025, and frames the D1 Pro as a secondhand purchase. That is a secondary-source report; the evidence available here does not include an official xTool discontinuation announcement. Availability and support may vary by region, so check xTool’s current support pages and local listings rather than treating the model as definitively unavailable or unsupported. EngraverHQ’s D1 Pro review is the source for the discontinuation claim.

For a used machine, remaining stock or a bundle, inspect the offer item by item:

  • Identify the laser module type and wattage; “D1 Pro” alone is not enough to establish configuration.
  • Confirm whether the laser module, goggles, power supply and required cables are present.
  • List the included accessories—such as air assist, enclosure, honeycomb panel, rotary attachment, extension kit or risers—and verify compatibility with that machine.
  • Check condition, seller and return terms, particularly if the package is incomplete or has been assembled.
  • Make sure XCS or separately purchased LightBurn fits your computer and working style.
  • Check regional availability and support directly with xTool before relying on continued service or parts access.

Verdict: buy by configuration, not by the D1 Pro name

The D1 Pro is worth considering when the particular module, work area, software and accessories line up with your projects and workspace. xTool’s product page offers the broadest picture of available modules and add-ons; the independent review cited here covers one 20W kit, not the full family. Because stock, bundle contents and support status can differ, a specific listing—and confirmation of its condition, included parts and regional support—is the basis for a sound buying decision.
