UN briefings that day also reported on the Gaza death toll, the mpox emergency in Africa, Somalia and Yemen. These are documented associations with the date, not a complete ranking of everything that happened worldwide.

Gaza death toll attribution

It reported that WHO had released $1.45 million from its Contingency Fund for Emergencies and anticipated an initial funding requirement of $15 million. These were figures reported in the 15 August briefing, not a final accounting of the response. UN Secretary-General: Noon briefing of 15 August 2024

“What happened on 15 August 2024?” has no single worldwide answer. Whether it was a public holiday or religious observance depends on location and tradition; a news roundup also depends on which region, sources and time-zone cutoff it covers. The events above are a few well-documented associations, not a comprehensive chronology.
