For a recognizable Halloween cat, start with a cat-eye shape, a dark nose, a line from the nose toward the upper lip, and whisker dots or lines. The four tutorials below offer verified directions for building that look—from shaded makeup to a quick eyeliner-led version and decorative face paint. They are not thirteen independently verified tutorials, so this guide does not present them as a thirteen-item list.

Classic shaded cat makeup
HGTV’s cat makeup tutorial builds dimension with lighter and darker foundation, then adds a defined cat eye, a darkened nose and upper lip, whisker spots and lines, and highlights. Choose this direction if you want a more sculpted face and have time to blend several shades. Its material list includes foundation in multiple shades, black eyeliner pencil and liquid eyeliner, eye shadows, powder, sponges and brushes; false lashes are also listed.
Quick, eye-focused cat makeup
Makeup.com by L’Oréal’s four-step tutorial keeps the focus on the eyes: neutral shadow, a sharp cat eye, a reverse inner-corner wing, then mascara or optional lashes and the nose-and-whisker details. It is a useful option when you want to avoid elaborate base shading. The tutorial does not state a completion time.
L’Oréal Paris’s seven-step cat look is another eyeliner-led option, with instructions for cat-nose and whisker details. Follow its steps for the full sequence; the page does not state a completion time.

Decorative black-cat face paint
Namaki’s intermediate black-cat design takes a more illustrative route, using white, purple, pink and black face paint or pencils to draw a moon, a small cat, a web and bats around the forehead and eyes. Pick it for a decorative face-paint design rather than the familiar dark nose and whiskered muzzle.
How to make the look your own
Across the classic and eyeliner-led approaches, the clearest cues are the eye shape and nose-to-upper-lip detail. Add whisker spots or lines for a more traditional cat face; use lighter and darker base shades when you want more contour. If you prefer graphic face paint, Namaki’s moon, web and bat motifs offer a distinct alternative. Glamour’s roundup can provide additional style inspiration, but check individual tutorials directly before relying on a specific look or its product instructions.

Use makeup and face paint safely
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration advises following product directions and warnings, and using products only on areas for which they are intended. A product being suitable for one part of the face does not automatically mean it is intended for the eye area. FDA also says color additives in cosmetics, including Halloween face paints, must be approved for the intended use; check labels and do not assume a face paint is appropriate near the eyes.
- Read the label before applying makeup or face paint, especially around the eyes.
- Do not use a product on skin unless it is intended for skin, and follow any warnings against use near the eyes.
- If you are prone to allergies or trying a product for the first time, FDA suggests testing a small amount on your arm beforehand.
