Turn two small, lightweight fishing lures into earrings by removing their hooks and swivels, then attaching earring hooks through the lures’ holes. Use pliers and wire cutters to assemble them, and check that the connections are secure before wearing.

What you’ll need
- Two small, lightweight fishing lures, ideally similar in size and color
- Two earring hooks
- Jump rings
- Pliers
- Wire cutters
- Safety goggles and gloves

Choose two small, lightweight lures that look good together and have holes suitable for attaching earring hooks. Larger lures may feel heavy on the ears. The sources do not give a tested weight limit, so there is no universal maximum to rely on.

1. Remove every hook and swivel
Use pliers to hold the lure or hardware steady and wire cutters to remove its hooks and swivels. The original project’s essential instruction is to snip off this fishing hardware before attaching the earring hooks. Wear eye protection and gloves while cutting, as recommended by the detailed tutorial.
Do not wear the lure with fishing hooks still attached. Check the lure after cutting and do not use it if sharp hardware remains.
2. Check the lures and attachment holes
Before assembly, look over each lure and its attachment hole. Use lures whose holes can accept the earring hardware and whose remaining parts are in suitable condition for the project. The sources do not specify a cleaning method or validate particular lure finishes or materials.

3. Attach the earring hooks
You can attach an earring hook directly through a suitable lure hole, or use a jump ring and pliers to connect the parts.
Option A: Direct attachment
- Find a suitable hole in the lure.
- Use pliers to open the loop on the earring hook.
- Feed the loop through the lure’s hole.
- Use pliers to close the loop.
This follows the original Make: method of clipping earring hooks into the lure holes. It works when the opening accepts the finding and the lure hangs as you want.
Option B: Add a jump ring
- Hold a jump ring with pliers.
- Twist its ends sideways to open it.
- Feed the ring through the lure’s hole and the loop on the earring hook.
- Twist the ring closed so its ends meet.
A jump ring provides a connection between the lure and earring hook when direct attachment is awkward. The detailed tutorial recommends using jump rings and pliers for this assembly.

4. Check the pair
Hold each earring by its hook and check how the lure hangs. Turn the connection so the side you prefer faces outward. Compare the pair for a deliberate match in size, color, and orientation.
5. Check the connections before wearing
Give each finished earring a gentle tug and look over the connections. The parts should remain securely joined. If a connection is loose or a sharp hook remains, do not wear the earring until it is corrected.

Do I need jump rings?
