The quickest way to find starred items in Canva is to open Canva Home and select Starred in the left navigation. If you do not see it, open Projects, go to Folders, and look for Starred. Canva’s navigation can vary by account, device, and ongoing interface updates, so both paths are worth checking.
Find starred items from Canva Home
- Sign in to the Canva account and team where you originally starred the item.
- Open the Canva Home page.
- Look in the left navigation for Starred.
- Open Starred, then select the design, folder, template, photo, graphic, or other saved item you need.
In some Canva layouts, Starred appears directly in the sidebar. In others, it may be located under Projects or Folders. Canva’s own product information says users can star important designs, folders, and brand templates so they can return to them later. Canva’s workspace announcement also distinguishes personal starred content from team-curated content such as Starred for Team.
If Starred is not visible: use Projects and Folders
Canva periodically changes the Home and workspace navigation. If there is no visible Starred shortcut:
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Projects from the Canva Home sidebar.
- Select Folders.
- Look for a folder or destination named Starred.
- Open it and choose the item you want to use.
This is especially useful when you are trying to find a starred design or folder rather than an individual image or element. Canva describes its Projects and folder tools as ways to organize and retrieve designs and other digital assets; its digital asset management overview provides additional context.

Find a starred item while editing a design
If you are already working inside a Canva design, you may be able to find starred assets without returning to Home:
- Open the design in the Canva editor.
- Inspect the editor’s side panel for Starred.
- If it is not shown, select More or inspect the available Projects and Folders options.
- Open the starred asset and add it to the current design if appropriate.
This route is most useful for saved photos, graphics, templates, and other reusable design assets. A starred item is only a saved reference or favorite—it is not automatically placed in the design you are currently editing. You still need to select it from the asset area to reuse it.
The exact location of Starred can differ between Canva in a web browser, the desktop app, and the mobile app. If the editor does not show the option, return to Home and use Starred or Projects > Folders.

Find starred designs, folders, templates, and assets
Use the location that matches the type of item you saved:
| What you starred | Where to look first |
|---|---|
| Design | Home > Starred, or Projects > Folders > Starred |
| Folder | Projects > Folders, then Starred if available |
| Template | Home > Starred; you may also find it through the relevant template or design area |
| Photo, graphic, or other reusable asset | The editor’s asset panel > Starred, or the Starred area from Home |
| Team-curated content | Check the team workspace and look for Starred for Team or a similar team section |
Not every account or interface displays identical category tabs for templates, designs, elements, and photos. Treat those categories as interface-dependent rather than as permanent Canva menu options.
How to star an item for later
For designs, folders, and brand templates, use the item’s star control when it is displayed. For photos, elements, and other library content, select the star icon or open the item’s More options menu and choose the available star or save command.

Canva does not necessarily display the same control on every type of content card. If you cannot see a star, open the item’s three-dot menu or other options menu. Once saved, return to Home and check Starred, or look in the editor’s Starred asset area.
Find Starred items in the Canva mobile app
- Open the Canva app and go to the Home screen.
- Open the navigation menu.
- Look for Starred.
- If it is missing, try Projects > Folders > Starred.
- If you are editing a design, inspect the editor’s Projects or More area and look for Starred there.
Mobile navigation has appeared in different places for different users, so a missing top-level Starred option does not necessarily mean the saved items were deleted. Canva’s app layout may also differ by operating system, account, and version.
What to do if a starred item is missing
Work through these checks in order:
- Check the account: Make sure you are signed in with the same Canva account used when the item was starred.
- Check the team: If you belong to more than one team, switch to the team where the item was saved. Also check personal Starred and any team area such as Starred for Team.
- Check Projects: Open Projects and inspect Folders instead of relying only on the Home shortcut.
- Check the editor: For a photo, graphic, or template, open a design and inspect the asset panel’s Starred area.
- Search Canva: Use Home search if you remember the design or folder’s name.
- Refresh the app: On mobile, close and reopen Canva, then update the app if its navigation appears incomplete or outdated.
- Check access: A team-owned design or brand template may no longer be available if your team permissions changed, the owner removed access, or the content was moved.
- Contact Canva: If the item still cannot be found, use the Canva Help Center for account, editing, and design support.
Do not assume that a missing Starred shortcut means the content itself is gone. Canva’s current Home and workspace navigation is changing, and the same saved content may be reachable through Projects, Folders, the editor, or a team workspace.

Personal Starred versus Starred for Team
These areas serve different purposes. Your personal Starred list is for items you saved for your own quick access. Starred for Team is intended for team-level curation, where administrators or brand designers can highlight useful content for other members. If someone tells you that an item was “starred for the team,” do not look only in your personal Starred list—switch to the relevant team workspace and inspect its team-curated content.
Optional learning resource
If you are learning Canva beyond this quick navigation fix, a Canva for beginners book may be useful for broader lessons on templates, layouts, and design tools. You do not need a book to find Starred items; the steps above are sufficient for this task.
