Christmas clip art is available as downloadable illustrations in formats such as SVG and PNG. To choose an image for a card, classroom worksheet, gift tag, flyer, web graphic, or craft template, check its individual reuse terms, file format, background, and resolution before using it.

Where to find Christmas clip art

Digital repositories offer individual motifs and themed collections, including Christmas trees, Santa hats, stockings, ornaments, and seasonal scenes. For example, SVG Repo’s Christmas vector icon is listed as CC0 and has SVG and PNG options. FreeSVG’s Santa and Christmas page describes an illustrated scene with SVG and large or small PNG downloads. Wikimedia Commons also has individual Christmas illustrations and icon sets; its file pages identify the rights for each work. These are examples, not a guarantee that every item on a site or in a collection has the same terms.

A collection can help you browse motifs, but the individual file page is the place to verify what you can download and reuse. Public Domain Pictures’ Christmas Clipart collection includes common seasonal subjects and project ideas; check the details attached to the specific image you select.

Check the image’s reuse terms

Do not assume an image is free to reuse because it appears in a search result, collection, or download gallery. Read the rights statement on the exact file page and follow any conditions it gives, including attribution requirements. A CC0 label on one image does not apply automatically to other images from the same repository.

Some specific Wikimedia Commons files are marked with a CC0 dedication. The CC0 deed reproduced on those file pages says: “You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.” That statement applies to works carrying that dedication; confirm that the individual image you want is actually marked CC0 before relying on it.

Choose a format and resolution for the project

For print materials, vector formats such as SVG or EPS are often suitable because they can scale without the pixelation typical of a small raster image. Creative Commons recommends SVG and EPS for print and warns that images optimized for digital use can look blurry or jagged when printed. See its downloads guidance.

  • For print: Prefer a suitable vector file when available, or confirm that a PNG has enough resolution for the intended printed size.
  • For web and screens: A PNG may be convenient, but check its dimensions and whether it has a transparent or filled background.
  • Before enlarging or removing a background: Check the source file and preview how it will look at the final size. Enlarging a small image or cutting out a filled backdrop can leave jagged edges or unwanted remnants.

Match the illustration to its use

For a greeting card or flyer, consider whether the image’s style and colors suit the layout and whether its background will fit the page. For a worksheet or gift tag, check that small details remain clear at the final size. For a craft template, make sure the file is editable in the software or workflow you plan to use, and verify that its reuse terms cover your intended use.

Before downloading or publishing, check the specific artwork’s creator or source, license, file type, resolution, and background. These details—not the site name or the phrase “Christmas clip art”—determine whether an image is appropriate for your project.
