There is no single “best” brass tattoo machine for every artist: brass describes the frame material, not the mechanism or setup. The options below include traditional coil machines and rotary machines, as well as models configured as liners, shaders, or hybrids. Compare each within its type, verify the exact frame and included components, and treat maker- and retailer-published specifications as starting points—not proof of comfort or performance.
How to compare brass tattoo machines
First identify whether the machine is a coil or rotary. Then check whether the model is offered as a liner, shader, or another configuration, and compare published stroke, weight, and operating guidance only where the configurations match. A brass-colored finish alone does not establish a brass frame; confirm the material in the product specification.

Brass coil machines
Paco Rollins brass J-frame
Paco Rollins says its J-frames are available in brass or steel and in liner or shader configurations. The maker describes the standard tuning as long throw and tuned for 5, 7, or 9 needle groupings; the brass J-frame listing gives a weight of 8.4 oz and operating voltage of 8–13 V, depending on the power supply. These are Paco Rollins’ specifications and guidance, not general settings for other machines. View the maker’s listing.

Tommy’s Dice brass coil machine
Tommy’s Supplies describes this machine as hand-built to order, with brass among the frame options. Its seller-published specifications list 10-wrap coils, a weight of 9.80 oz (278 g) for both liner and shader configurations, and operating ranges of 7.8–9.0 V for the liner and 8.5–9.5 V for the shader. Confirm the selected configuration and current ordering details with the seller. View Tommy’s Supplies listing.
Titan Tattoo Supply brass coil listing
The listing describes a CNC-cut billet brass frame, 10-wrap coils for the liner and 12-wrap coils for the shader, and includes operating-voltage information. Its present stock and the accuracy of its details are unverified, so confirm both with the seller before relying on the listing. View the listing.

HM Evolution Brass shader rotary
Monster Steel’s retailer listing describes a CNC-machined brass frame, a 3.4 mm stroke, and a Swiss Maxon motor. It gives a recommended voltage of 5.5–9 V and a stated 12 V limit. These are retailer-published details, not independently tested results; check the current listing and manufacturer guidance for the exact model. View Monster Steel’s listing.
Rotary Works plain brass rotary
Rotary Works lists a plain brass rotary machine and says it builds rotary machines in Surrey, UK. The listing supports considering it as a brass rotary option, but does not provide a comparable specification set here for ranking it against the other models. View Rotary Works’ listing.

Hybrid and configurable options
Dan Kubin Full Monty
The product listing identifies a brass-frame option and describes the Full Monty as a hybrid with pen-type ergonomics. Its listed weight varies substantially with the grip: 8.5 oz for a brass frame with an aluminum grip and 14.5 oz for a brass frame with a brass grip. Verify which components are included or sold separately, and compare weight only after establishing the final configuration. View the product listing.
Paco Rollins custom machines
Paco Rollins says its custom machines are hand-built, signed, and dated, with stock changing as machines are made. That describes the maker’s custom work and changing availability; it does not establish that a particular model is currently in stock. View the maker’s information.

Choosing a machine for your setup
- Choose by mechanism first. Compare coil models with other coil models and rotary models with other rotaries; the listings do not establish that one mechanism is better for every artist.
- Match the configuration to the work. Check whether the machine is specifically listed as a liner or shader, or as a hybrid, rather than assuming a setup from its frame material.
- Compare like with like. Weight depends on configuration in the Full Monty listing, and the available specifications do not establish a common measurement method across all models. Stroke and voltage figures are useful only in the context of the specific machine and its maker’s guidance.
- Check support and availability. Confirm ordering, repair, and support information directly with the maker or retailer; the listings summarized here do not provide a consistent basis for comparing after-sales service.
- Evaluate with appropriate instruction. Published specifications cannot tell you whether a machine suits your handling preferences. Make that assessment through appropriate training and evaluation rather than treating listed numbers as a proxy for comfort or results.
