Blender 4.0.1 was released on November 17, 2023, and its official corrective-release notes state that it fixed 11 issues. It remains available in Blender’s archive, but Blender recommends the latest stable or LTS release for general use and production. Install 4.0.1 only when a specific project, add-on, plug-in, or pipeline requires that version, and test your files before changing a production setup.

Blender 4.0.1 is a corrective release in the Blender 4.0 series. It followed Blender 4.0, released on November 14, 2023, with fixes rather than a new feature set. The major changes in the 4.0 series belonged to Blender 4.0 itself.

The notes state 11 fixes, but the available archived result exposes only ten issue descriptions. Blender’s release page says the later Blender 4.0.2 release addressed 41 issues; that count applies to 4.0.2, not 4.0.1.

Should you still install Blender 4.0.1?
For a fresh, general-use installation, usually not. Blender’s releases page recommends the latest stable or LTS release for general use and production. As of October 7, 2026, Blender lists 5.2 LTS and 4.5 LTS as active LTS releases. The LTS page describes the program as providing critical fixes over a two-year period.
Blender 4.0.1 may still make sense when a specific project or production pipeline is pinned to it, or when an add-on, plug-in, API behavior, or reproducibility need requires that version. The official sources do not establish compatibility for any particular project, hardware, script, or add-on. Confirm the exact need and test representative files and outputs before changing a production environment.

If you are already using Blender 4.0.0, the official release page says 4.0.1 addressed 11 critical issues and 4.0.2 addressed 41 issues. Those counts alone do not establish which patch is best for your operating system, add-ons, or particular problem.

Blender 4.0.1 remains available from Blender’s previous-versions archive. The official archive lists platform packages. Availability in the archive does not mean the 4.0.1 branch is still actively supported or recommended for a fresh general-use installation.

How to test a version-pinned project
- Confirm the requirement. Identify the specific project, add-on, plug-in, API behavior, pipeline, or issue that requires Blender 4.0.1.
- Preserve the existing environment. Keep your working installation and preferences intact while evaluating the older version.
- Back up project files. Work on copies and retain the originals.
- Test representative work. Check the project, relevant add-ons and scripts, and the renders or exports your workflow depends on.
