Blow Up Hall 5050 is an operating five-star design hotel in central Poznań, Poland, according to its official website. Its reputation as “half luxury hotel, half digital art installation” reflects an earlier art concept: the interactive Blow Up Commission by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. The hotel’s current site promotes art and design alongside hospitality, but does not confirm that the historic camera-based installation still operates.
What is Blow Up Hall 5050 today?
The hotel is at Tadeusza Kościuszki 42, within the Stary Browar complex in Poznań. Its official website describes it as a five-star design hotel and lists accommodation, arte restaurant, b.bar, wellness, and meetings and events. The site also presents art and books as part of the experience. Hotel Blow Up Hall’s official website
The current identity is broader than a place to see one artwork: the hotel describes sculptures, art installations, and applied-art objects integrated with the building’s architecture. Its official About Us page sums up the intended balance this way: “Each Blow Up Hall space is inspiring and comfortable at the same time.” About Us
What was the digital art installation?
The best-documented work behind the “digital art installation” description is the Blow Up Commission, created for the hotel by artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Stary Browar describes it as a system of plasma screens, motion sensors, cameras, and computers that interacted with people passing through. For a moment, a passer-by became part of the artwork. That history explains the hotel’s unusual premise: the building was not simply decorated with art; the work could respond to people moving through it. However, the hotel’s present-day website does not establish that this specific camera-based installation remains in operation. Treat it as a documented part of the hotel’s history, rather than a confirmed feature of a current stay.
How did the hotel’s past lead to its reopening?
The hotel occupies a former military court built by the Prussian government between 1878 and 1880. A 2021 academic case study dates the project design to July 2007 and its realization to December 2008. Poznań University of Economics and Business Publishing House case study

Because services, availability, and prices can change, confirm them with the hotel rather than relying on older coverage. The official site identifies the operator as Hotel Blow Up Hall Sp. z o.o. and lists the address as Tadeusza Kościuszki 42, 61-891 Poznań, and telephone +48 61 629 94 00. The 2025 ePoznań report included prices from that period—PLN 810 as a room starting price and PLN 110 per person for breakfast—but those are historical figures, not current booking prices.
